Thank You! Had to watch certain small sections at half speed for about 6 or 7 times, to glean the full value of what is happening, but after you do that, with “this” video…then the “Advanced Power Control” of Lithium Batteries and Solar Energy is no longer a mystical barrier. Additionally, if you can multiply and divide (even with your calculator), it’s really easy to do all the power use and associated duration computations. Thus, the 4th grader has been given all the mental tools necessary to master the understanding of this “state of the art” RV Power System. Spend a couple hours with this video (mostly slowing it to 50% speed and then replaying a 2 minute section) and then you’ll feel like an energy management guru, afterwards.
This is the 1st Lithium and Solar management video that pulled everything together for me.
    I’m definitely “Switching Lanes” now.
Thank You for this excellent “learning” resource!!!

I got one about 2 months ago. I love the inverter. The dealer in Florida that I purchased my unit from was no help. Never returned my phone call. Videos like yours has a lot of information for others trying to install. Buying from a dealer with good support is very important.

Thank you, Chad, for allaying my fears of switching from a 3000 watt 6-year old Go Power inverter to the Vicron Multiplus II 2x120 system in our 2021 Reflection 340RDS. Because my Go Power went defective and support was unable to help me, I decided to upgrade to Victron! Your video will help me with switching and removing all the hodgepodge components into a stream-lined system!

one thing i have learned in my journey is to have 24V/120V inverter setup. and then a 2nd 12V battery that is charged via the 24V system. Then you will never lose 12V, and you can have 1/2 sized wires for the 120V inverter side. Mostly if you need over 2000watts of Power. Plus you can take the 120v/24v out of commsion for upgrades/testing and keep your 12V side going still.

I’ve said it once and I’ll continue to repeat myself! Chad, you missed your calling - there’s a professorship position somewhere for you!! In Cuba, in the 20s and 30s, my grandfather was an “engineer” for a sugar cane mill run out of Boston - I tell you this because my granddad never studied engineering. He was a genius with machinery, when machinery was just starting. The stories my mom told us of him remind me of you - always tinkering and making yours and Tara’s lives better. Keep up the great work.

Chad - well done! I just finished installing the same inverter in our Airstream. While not full timers, the BEST part is being able to run every single AC appliance and outlet without having to remember if it's connected to the inverter! The only drawback to The MP2 120 is that the shore power pass through requires that the inverter be on. I used the Color Control GX and the Digital Multi Control panels to make it simple to manage without a phone. Again - great video and I hope we meet down the road!

@Leo Reap : We have the older MP 12/3000/120-50 120V, Product ID, 2702 (not the v2). Future Sales told me to leave the inverter on all the time, too. I'm not quite sure I understand that. Right now, I have it on Charger Only (I happened to trip the breaker yesterday (50amp between Victron and house panel), started freaking out and switched it.) I'm showing I have 50amp in, so I can't quite figure out how that's important. Do you have any resources (links) that might explain this? I DO usually turn the inverter off while traveling as I don't want to drain the batteries on fridge, etc. when I can just switch that to propane.

A trick to get less resistance in your battery cable ring terminals is get the closed ended ones put it in a small vise or clamp that is heat proof. Then use a propane torch to heat up the terminal and use thick electrical solder with rosin core . Fill the terminal about halfway with molten solder and very slowly insert the pre-striped battery cable making sure it soaks up the solder into the wire. Then hold it for 5 seconds until it solidifies. Then slide your heat shrink over the terminal and finish it up.
This will make a mechanical and electrical connection that will be free of voids and corrosion over time.

Chad and Tara, We have had a Victron Multiplus, Multi Control, Color GX display system in our Class C for three years and love it. The Multiplus has performed flawlessly. It allows us to use the air conditioning when parked and shopping or stopping for a few hours hiking or exploring before getting to a campsite with hookups and keeps our cat comfortable. Your comments about Customer Service are spot on. Our Multiplus is installed under the dinette in a conditioned space but can still get warm when running the AC off the inverter for an extended period. I would enjoy seeing what type of ventilation you are utilizing for your Multiplus inverter as I formulate ideas to keep our's cool. Keep up the excellent work.

Looking good Chad, I installed mine 8 days ago before we came down to Corpus Christi, TX from Killeen, TX. I ran the refrigerator and small freezer for 5.5 hours and I still had 60% battery voltage or 5 hours left according to my Victron smart shunt. I have 2 battle borne batteries, 400 watts renogy solar panels, 30 amp solar controller. Man I love this inverter no shore power no problem, when I plugged into NAS camp site it didn’t miss a beat . I love the fact I can travel on 120 volts In my Reflection 303RLS. Yes thanks go out to Jarred, he got me excited when he said no inverter, converter, and no transfer switch need only one Victron multi plus II inverter replaces all of them in one component.

Chad (and Tera), inquiring minds have to wonder - when you do one of your geek out videos, who does the editing? I'm sure it's not really appealing to Tera to try and decipher all of what is going on. Regardless, truly excellent video, and beyond belief wealth of information being given. Even though I won't ever go anywhere that far in upgrading my system from the MSW system that I have now, it's informative to me to see new systems and have them explained in the easy to follow manner that you do, answering a lot of the little questions that have popped into my mind. Well, we have the Multiplus 2 installed in our Solitude. Overall, we are satisfied with the great configs and data monitoring you can do! I was wondering if you had any issues with Inverter sounds (hums like a fish tank motor, even on low power), or any shore-power breakers popping when trying to connect shore-power through the inverter. I have the 24V version, and my father has the 12V version, we are both experiencing shore-power breaker popping while trying to charge or pass-through the power. We have sent our input AC to low levels like 5, 10 or 15Amps with the same issues. Some reading says that the US ground fault circuits are more sensitive than EU market. The Multiplus was designed for the EU market.

Nice overview of how all this works. Note that the NEC only allows 80% of the circuit's rated power for a continuous load, so a 30A circuit is only rated to flow 24A on a continuous basis, not the full 30A. Thanks for the excellent video!

Wow Chad! - What an amazing video! - Many may be lost in its complexity, but I work in an electronic engineering environment, and "got" almost all of it. :)
This is a very comprehensive and complete system - that is accessible from anywhere - very important.
The ability to review historical data is paramount, and will allow you to plan for the future, based on the past.
Thanks so much - you are very adept at presenting this sort of thing. Cheers!

One of the very nice features of this inverter, especially for "moochdocking" is the ability to limit the amount of current that the inverter will take from shore power. You can set it clear down to 12 amps right on your panel. That way if you are plugged into a standard outlet you can limit the draw to 15amps.

Yes!! I love Victron products. We have a 2017 Navion 24J that came installed with 100w solar and xantrex. We now all Victron: 3 solar controllers, Dc to Dc converter so don't damage the Mercedes alternator, the awesome Lynx Distributor, shunt, victron fuse holder (however I don't recommend), the 712, and the incredible 12v/3000/120 inverter. With 6 Battle Born 100ah batteries, can run ac full-time for 3.5hrs or much more if cycling on and off like normal, use the power assist when boondocking, and the best use is k-cup coffee and microwave warmed pastry in morning! Victron rocks!!!! Could only ge 640w solar on roof. But can add in parallel another 4 aux connectrd panels on ground for 1400w solar. Took 4 months working partime pulling new wires, fabricating parts and racks, and engineering acceptable runs.

@earlhunt2815 We have a 2009 Fleetwood Icon Sprinter-based and looking to install this system. How did you get everything to fit in that small rig? Do you have pictures that show your setup that you could share?

    • @earlhunt2815

@@stuartrogel9117 I do have pictures however they're not the greatest. I have a 24J which means the bed is a corner bed. The concept is easy the implementation is labor intensive, rigorous attention to detail for the electrical and structural engineering. It's not inexpensive ($10k for materials and tools like lug crimper, cable cutter, special hole saws) but it's well worth it for our needs. This would have cost at least 20K for a company to engineer and install.
New battery packs much more space efficient available from Battleborn and other manufacturers that weren't when I installed mine. I would go with game changers from Battleborn if I had it to do again.
So one starts with taking the coach batteries out of the step well and putting lithium batteries in it. I put two battleborn GC2 in the stairwell. next to the stairwell is a luggage compartment. I stacked four 10012 two pairs on their side facing each other. Built an aluminum frame and secured them. Directly above the luggage compartment is the cabinet with the sink. I did not want the inverter outside in luggage compartment so I mounted it underneath the sink. I built a rack for it and secured the rack. drilled holes down to the luggage battery compartment and routed the cables up to the inverter. Then I had to pull new wiring for the AC component from the back of the motorhome completely through to the inverter. This is required because the inverter can supply up to 50 amps so nee wiring is required.

@@earlhunt2815 Thanks so much for sharing this, Earl. Sounds like you did a lot of good work. I’m not sure I’m ready to make all the changes to our rig to build out such a system. Plus, I don’t have the electrical/mechanical chops that you and Chad have to make this work. I am meeting with a reputable installer next week to help me plan and design given my space constraints (and budget). We’ll see. I’ll keep you posted.

    • @earlhunt2815

      @@stuartrogel9117 some thoughts to consider:
•. Victron known worldwide for engineering excellence, innovation, availability, networking, and quality.
      • considerate 3000 w inverter/ converter over a 2000 watt. While the 3000 w does require 400 amp hour batteries, This is easily achievable with two robust lithium pack such as battleborn's "game changer". 3000 w inverters generally require a minimum of 400 ampere hours. I doubt you'll ever want to upgrade to anything else as long as you have good solar.
•. Inverters require heat dissipation. I see professionals and DIYs installing their inverter/converter in enclosed areas without any or sufficient air movement. This shortens life of the inverter. I would ask to see the ventilation spec how many CFM have to be moved to keep the inverter within specs.
      • check your occupancy cargo carrying capability OCCC So you know how much to take off with the install. I went with flexible panels because rigid ones are much heavier. However not advisable to glued directly to your roof. But simple slotted aluminum "T" rails with the head of a bolt slid into the T allows one to secure the panel and also makes it easily removable. I Used LEXAN thermoclear for ventilation between the roof and the bottom of flex solar panel. The weight saving is significant.
•. Shading kills solar output. Any panel mounted either panel beside your air conditioner Will be shaded at one time. If they are connected together the significantly drops of efficiency. The ideal solution is parallel wire, diodes to prevent feedback for weight panel (watch I almost never see any pro or DIY install) and separate charge controller. Most professional and DIY installers prefer to use one charge controller; however, This is much less efficient But easier to install. Using multiple lower voltage amperage solar controllers in pairs of panels significantly increases total output to charge the batteries.
      • codes do apply to solar installs such as fusing and the ability to switch on and off the solar panel.
*. Solar wiring must be exterior braided, UV protected, hello with other specs. Please ensure your bid specifies the correct solar wire otherwise the wire covering will crack or just a few years and you'll be replacing it.
+ The victron lynx distributor is hands down the best.
+ Besides the master cut off from the batteries to your distribution terminals, consider a DC bus cut off from The distribution terminal to your DC fuse box.
