lol. Speaking of Ms. Grist, if anyone reading this is unfamiliar with her work, look for the video of her singing Zerbinetta's aria in Salzburg in 1965 (actually, it's divided into two videos). So far it's my favorite rendition of this unbelievably challenging piece.
see, while I think she is great in other rep, I think her Zerbinetta and Mozart are nearly unrivaled. Ah se crudel, I have never heard another singer conquer and interpret that aria so well, and I think her geme la tortorella on here is one of the most perfect recordings made. to each their own tho.
also, while she can get a little metallic and edgy, its more her later career mannerisms and sliding and scooping that miffs me. also, despite me saying i love her in mozart, i find her queen of the night to be her least appealing mozart role.

Beautiful voices but boring and unmotivated staging. It's really too bad. In this case the piece is much more enjoyable to listen to than to watch.
