Sir Patrick Stewart said in an interview that he initially thought about wearing a hairpiece as Picard, because he was self-conscious and he wore one in real life. Gene Roddenberry told him not to. Stewart then asked "But in the 24th century, won't science be advanced enough to find a cure for baldness?", to which Roddenberry replied "In the 24th century... no one will care!" I'm paraphrasing a bit, but that's one of my favorite Roddenberry quotes!
