As cool as this is. Those of us that were around to see Blue Thunder in theaters in 1983, will recall that the TV show, though awesome, could never have happened. Frank Murphy landed Blue Thunder on the railroad tracks and it was destroyed by a freight train.
Yes, it could. The pilot episode was called "Second Thunder" because they were flying the second prototype for Blue Thunder. It also explains the new features that Blue Thunder had in the show that in never had in the movie (precision fire - where a special Canon popped out of the center of the 20mm gun).
Sadly the Bell 222 that played Airwolf was later sold to a private company in Germany and was destroyed in a fatal crash in 1992. Two French Gazelle helicopters were used to portray Blue Thunder but both of those have since been scrapped. Sad that these birds are gone. At least the Screaming Mimi from Riptide is still in service last I heard.
The Lady was on her way to actually pick up a patient when she crashed in stormy weather near a rock quarry in Germany. Her "Replica" was sold to some rich person for "Display." However, if you think TV Producers from the '80's ever put any respect in those respective vehicles made for the sole purpose of TV programming, consider this: The Dukes of Hazard TV Show stunt drivers Destroyed 87? of the 1969 Dodge Charger car just to make that particular TV Series. Humans do Not appreciate, nor respect, machines. To them, they are just "tools," where as, to the true fans, they will live on forever as Cultural Icons.

@@russell5078084 only because they went over the top with Airwolf. BT is quite realistic and believable, AW is ridiculous, turbo jets on a helicopter, lol!
I actually got to see one of the Blue Thunder Gazelles on display at OshKosh back in 1990. Believe it or not, Aerospatiale had wanted to build a version with armored canopies and a Gatling gun on the front, like the Huey Cobras. However, to do that particular mod would have made it too nose heavy to fly properly, so the idea was scrapped. I think the best they ever did was a light attack version with a couple rocket pods, and that's about it.
The Gazelle was a good bird for surveillance, the British Army Air Corps used them for that, they could also be fitted with TOW missles on port and starboard pods. The airframe was not suited to nose mounted surveilance gear or weapons, they ones on the film and tv show had that problem.
Airwolf and Blue thunder where designed for two different of environments. Blue thunder was designed to operate in the city environment for crowd control during rioting and help in terrorist attacks and hostage situations. Hence it small size, its ability to maneuver between buildings at slow speeds and gun that could track targets via helmet control. Ground control via the air. Airwolf is a pure bread attack helicopter designed for air to air interdiction, air to ground attack and air space dominance.
Airwolf having missiles, heatseekers specifically, pretty much decided the fight from the outset, especially if he'd lead with them instead of bothering with guns (for drama's sake of course)
Well, neither coper could of taken the other's gunfire. Airwolf uses 4 BMG 50 cals but its 2 big ones were 30mm autocannons vrs Blue Thunder's 20mm chain gun. In real life, 50 cals will tear modern tanks to pieces. But Airwolf had multiple air to air missiles including one specific as anti-helicopter and long-range targeting ability, much higher top speed, and 90% stealth. No contest.
@@matjov How about 30mm auto cannons? And Heat and AP 50 cals at the rate of fire Airwolf supposedly had, they would. But thats kinda the point, they are not real. But if they where, Airwolf was designed to take out aircraft from a distance, very accurately and quickly. The other chopper takes sustained gun fire from 50 cals and 30mm autocannons, nothing in the air can do that.
Airwolf + Stringfellow Hawk = unbeatable. That chopper would never get shot down with String piloting it, and String would never die while IN that chopper. The only chance you had of survival against that combo is to agree to surrender when String offered mercy, like he often did.

Great job. Very convincing editing. My childhood dream fulfilled with the exception of seeing Blue Thunder destroyed. Would have preferred a parlay :D Although Airwolf was my favourite I still had a soft spot for Blue Thunder.
Based on the fictional specs, Airwolf would toy with Blue Thunder before downing it. Actually, Airwolf would still beat anything in existence even today, including the Apaches, the F33s and the F35s. The only things that have improved in real-world specs are the computer systems avionics, such as target identification and acquisition.
True, based on the fictional specs -- Airwolf would have the combat advantage. Based on reality, the Gazelle (Blue Thunder) is a much faster helicopter than (Airwolf) Bell 222. The Bell 222 maxes out of 240 kph for top speed, the Gazelle can hit 310 kph.
One thing could beat it, the F-22 Raptor. Radar sig the size of a grasshopper. And the ONLY known aircraft capable of maintaining stealth at supersonic speeds. Combined with advanced targeting and hypersonic missile capability as well, it is the true air dominance, the best aircraft in the world, in its role, strike fighter. And some of them are even VTOL capable. The Lady's defenses would also be useless as it uses an advanced GPS lock-on targeting system. If there is anything better, it is ultra-top secret. Airwolf's launcher isnt larger enough for hypersonics. But the F-22 could only carry 2 missiles and maintain stealth, one hypersonic. So if the Lady could somehow get super lucky and avoid that one shot, she could have her way, if she can catch it.

Airwolf vs Blue Thunder? “Nice knowing you, Blue....”
Right shes in Blue thunder heaven now...lol don't mess with the lady!! lmfao
I used to watch this in Mexico in Spanish back in the mid 80s lol I was like 5-6 years old, lobo del aire in Spanish was the name, brings me back memories along with knight rider my 2 favorite shows.
Jesus! What a cut! It looks just like that lol
I really missed this 80s show. Wolf under the sheep skin
Not to mention the looks, the lady is beautiful.
Blue Thunder has got nothing on Airwolf, and so the duel ends the only way possible :)
My parrot watched Airwolf so much my stepson learned the theme tune.
I wanted to be a helicopter pilot after watching this when I was young. Thanks for the edit very good. Now I have a good pc and game, WASD forever....
Which episode is this?
Just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good work, I am an Airwolf fan.
thanks for posting for our amusement.
Just prank's edited..
Great job. Very convincing editing. My childhood dream fulfilled with the exception of seeing Blue Thunder destroyed. Would have preferred a parlay :D Although Airwolf was my favourite I still had a soft spot for Blue Thunder.
Great editing job merging the two series clips that made it look realistic
My All time favorite program wonderful superb great childhood memories. Jan Michael. Rest in peace.
So if the Lady could somehow get super lucky and avoid that one shot, she could have her way, if she can catch it.

great Movie!!
2021 and the arguments still continue :)
Totally loved it great matchup
There could only be one winner in that fight! Great battle tho :-)
When your only weapon is a Gatling gun and your opponent is a bullet proof mach 1 capable gun ship you are screwed
mastermonarch truer words well written. You wrote what everyone is thinking.
airwolf sound when afterburner, makes goosebump, nothing like it, its the last sound they hear it, when they think that the sky belong to' them,
