  • Some low key footage from the Australian Model Expo 2022 held at Sandown Race Course, Melbourne, Australia over the weekend of 17 to 19 June 2022.
    Press pause when you see something you like - each model only has 3 to 4 seconds of viewing time...otherwise, it's a very long video.

    I am not associated with the Australian Model Expo and did not have any models in the competition. I attended as a paying visitor.

      The quality of model work at the comp was amazing, in some cases just breath-taking.

    I don't get to model shows so much these days, not just because of Covid-19 keeping us all at a distance from each other, but before that: pre-covid, being pushed and jostled to keep moving - model building from plastic kits is popular in the town I call home. Some builders, those with creative imaginations, present models that elicit wonder in those viewing these. Most though are pedestrian builds that can comfort other builders knowing they can do just as well and signal the need to do better. That is one way we improve model skills.

    Rapaz vendo essa exposição meus olhos se iluminam,na minha adolescência eu costumava modelar alguns kits,sou muito apaixonado por aviões militares principalmente pelos da ww2 infelizmente com o tempo tive que abandonar o hobby,sempre quis voltar ao hobby ainda mais agora que estou passando por uma depressão mais infelizmente depois da pandemia estou falido e não tenho dinheiro algum para comprar nem sequer um kit que aqui no Brasil estão muito caros ,ainda tenho uns frascos de tinta e um pincel de uns 15 anos atrás kkkkk gostaria muito de montar algum kit novamente obrigado por postar esse vídeo!

    Nice show. It struck me as odd that they celebrated a century of Australian aviation with what seemed like a full lineage of aircraft... but where was the F-"wonder-lemon"? I didn't see a single model of the Earth Pig (F-111), as she was called there. Plenty of Hornets and others though. Thanks for showing us the show.

      Now that you mention it, I agree, I don't recall seeing an F-111 in the century of the RAAF display even though they did include one Phantom.

    Nice show. Suggestion: take a quick shot of the scale of each model. That helps to understand the pains taken by the artists (what they really are).

      @travelphotos7662  Рік тому

      Thank you, Jack. That is an excellent suggestion. It was my mistake that I didn't keep proper records. When compiling the video, I realised there were a few details that would be nice to include, such as the scale of the model and the name of the modeller.

    Looks a very nice show, similar to Telford

      Thank you. I have seen a few of the Telford shows on UA-cam but have never visited in person. Telford would definitely be larger but there do seem to be some similarities.

    I notice you skipped the whole Sci Fi Fantasy Diarama section.. no video 😞

      @travelphotos7662  Рік тому

      Yes. There were some science fiction / fantasy subjects on show (and I am a fan of science fiction) but most of the video I captured of those subjects wasn't of a good enough quality to include (out of focus).

    Any model cars? Sooo many planes

    • @travelphotos7662
      @travelphotos7662  Рік тому

      There were some cars but the majority of models were aircraft followed by military ground vehicles.

      Yes, that was the predominant subject. There were some civilian subject matter displays (including aircraft, automobiles, ships) and I probably didn't do them justice in this video.

    Models are cool..but Models that actually fly or float or drive...that's what I do. Completely changes how you look at everything.

    Disappointing that! I did not expect Just Crowd NOISE. No Narrations? Simple video of assembled plastic models? What a near waste of time.

      I'm sorry. I used to include a music track but available music isn't terrific. I have tried voice overs previously but my voice ain't that great for such work (needing practise :-). And, my mistake was that I didn't keep records of the models (scale and model maker). This was my first attempt at recording a model show and I wasn't expecting the interest it has received. Hearn's Hobbies (Melbourne hobby shop with a UA-cam channel) also produced a video of Model Expo 2022 including interviews with various people at the show. This types of exhibitions are entertaining to look at but it is always the same, planes , tanks , ships , one character or another and always the same themes , WW II or modern era. You watch You Tube and watch this expos and they are all the same. I personally prefer dioramas , fire trucks, trains, galleons. The truth is that always seeing the same theme is boring.

    Don't Mexicans build cars??? or just your preferences????

    • @travelphotos7662
      @travelphotos7662  Рік тому +1

      Mexicans? I don't exactly understand the sentiment. This show is in Australia. I do admit there would be some bias regarding what I viewed and filmed. However, trying to remember back to the show, I don't recall a lot of automotive models. Definitely a lot of armour and aircraft and then naval platforms. Even the majority of the club tables reflected mainly aircraft and armour. There was one club table that was a highlight for me, and I remember thinking at the time it reflected a good variety of subjects. That table was 'Firing on all cylinders' by Denham Modellers Group (at time stamp: 16:29 ).

      Missing from this interesting flypast are any naval platforms mentioned in this comment. Naval subjects are of great interest to me and have been since I assembled my first kit as a young fella in the late 1950s. This was a kit by Airfix that if good fortune was present at the assembly built into The Golden Hind or something like that. I've built many kits since, mostly Allied piston fighters of the 1940s in 1/48 scale. American Piston powered airliners in the same scale and era were next to research and build when kits were available. These required decals to be custom printed to represent airlines that flew this far down into The Pacific but not oftentimes available-correct no compromise detail is important to me. Now though, having exhausted existing! kits it's Submarines in 1/72 that have my interest. Not a scale that has a lot of manufacturer support with German Kreigsmarine UBoats being the most common, so those are what I built. I have one UBoat kit to finish and one to start and when those are done my kit building will have finished. Its been a wonderful hobby and interest that has lead to one Submarine being visited during trips to Honolulu Hawaii. The USN Bluefin is there still receiving visitors but will not put to sea again anytime soon. But still, a wonderful sight nonetheless.
