Really sorry for your loss. It's never easy, but I hope you're doing okay. I bought my first Tamiya kit in over 25 years, a couple of days ago and it was such an awesome experience assembling the kit. I chose a Midnight Pumpkin which I always loved as a kid. Now I really want to assemble more. Thank you so much for the videos!
i get the old camera up the butt in February of next year. being 51, it's my first one so hopefully everything will be good. sorry about the loss of your friend. i bet he was most excellent to you and yours. maybe in the spring, i'll look into buying some of those Tamiya "trees" (aka the complete set of plastic part trays) and upgrade my grasshopper to that suspension. cheers! have a pint, relax and reflect on your buddy.
Thanks for the great comment, Gary. Hope all goes well with the camera. Not the kind of thing we talk about enough. Have an excellent weekend, my dude! 🍻

So sorry for your loss dude. Cancer affects a lot of us, I've had 3 family members diagnosed over the years, thankfully they received the treatment they needed and all is good. I like the look of the Hornet Evo, as you said the rear suspension is too soft in kit form, and to be honest maybe the front is a little stiff too. Awesome video!!
Sorry about your loss 😢. Even if grieving I would say this is your best video ever. It was a joy to watch from start to finish. Great work my friend 💪🙏👍
Sorry for the loss of your friend, cancer sucks! My thoughts and prayers are with you and his family! I really enjoyed the build of the kit, it was cool to see how the shoe-horned all in there to make it work. I agree the rear is way to mushy and it needs stiff springs. A viewer suggested the Traxxas bandit front springs (#2458) for the rear of this, they are black to match the front and are stiffer to hold the weight better. The DT03 had the same issue with soft springs but the battery is a little more forward in those. It looked good out there and the tires on the concrete sounded cool! Take care Fil and I hope you have the best weekend you can, try not to dwell on it all.
The tires sounded so good on the concrete! Like a real car almost. Haha. Great tip on the Bandit springs, I'll have to try them out. Cheers, Addam! 🍻👊🏼

Thanks, brother! Yeah, $265 here, which is a little rich when you consider what's available around that same price point. But hey, it's a new Hornet, I had to try it. 😉
Hey Fil really sorry to hear about your friend. Sending best wishes ❤ The Hornet Evo does look like a really nice kit and you were brave taking it to the skate park. I'm sorry to hear your loss it's always hard. I like the new Hornet Evo, but atm I'm in Vietnam, and things here that are imported are way overpriced. Though I will get one, I think I will wait to my next Japan trip for 164,000 yen it's a bargain, thanks for the video.
@poorboysrc yep and my new company I have 35kg baggage so my next trip I'm taking a spare suitcase cab bring 2 new builds and a bunch of hop ups and spares, can't wait
I wonder if the aluminum chassis that is available for the OG Hornet will work? That would solve the battery issue. I wanted this car, but the lack of battery options kind of dulls the shine.
Do you think it could compete with the handling and durability of modern cars like the GROM series on my backyard track? I don't need another Hornet shelf queen! For reference, my "vintage" Manta Ray build definitely competes...
Jurat a thought... Can you please send me dimensions of the lunchbox body shell... I am about to buy a lunchbox and want to throw on a lexan body... Need your help to work out what body will fit... Also do think a mini cva will work and fit well??? It's going to be a good runner for my friends to use....
Yeah man, what specs do you need? Just length/width? Mini CVA's will be too short. 65-70mm is good for the front and 75-80 for the rear is pretty standard. 👍🏻
Doesnt make the iconic hopper buzz anymore. Grasshopper tyres are a bit longer lasting on tarmac. My hornet has the china alu chassis, this has room for a full size lipo. Maybe they can be swapped on the evo too.
Sincerest condolences my man, to many good people to soon, you just never know what tomorrow has in store. Good you held off on the 3s battery, I think that was a wise choice 👍🏻 Also nice to see Tamiya re-inventing a classic to at least some kind of drivable state 😂 Looking forward to the Honda City Turbo ‘Willy’s Wheeler’ that’s due next year.
Cool build, and run. I have a mixed feeling on this car, with the improvements, it kinda lost a bit of what makes them (original Grasshopper and Hornet) "special". We are never happy but would have preferred a Super Hornet 😊 Take care 🤝
Just had the procedure early this year….not as fun as putting together a Tamiya kit, but its do able! RIP Duncan❤ Btw, whats the story behind the Hornet tribute song?
Good for you, brother! Many of us dread the procedure, but everyone I know that's had it says the same thing. It's not too bad. I just made the song with AI. The lyrics can get a little wacky, so its really just supposed to be a fun AI song. 😂

Diet definitely has a lot to do with all the illness we see in modern society. It's sad. 😢
Cheap, cheap in Japan. Man, their prices are so good!
@poorboysrc yep and my new company I have 35kg baggage so my next trip I'm taking a spare suitcase cab bring 2 new builds and a bunch of hop ups and spares, can't wait
You can buy 2s round packs that fit perfectly
Got a link?
I wonder if the aluminum chassis that is available for the OG Hornet will work? That would solve the battery issue. I wanted this car, but the lack of battery options kind of dulls the shine.
I'd have to take a closer look at it to see if it could work. 🤔
Do you think it could compete with the handling and durability of modern cars like the GROM series on my backyard track? I don't need another Hornet shelf queen! For reference, my "vintage" Manta Ray build definitely competes...
I think being 2WD, it's going to have a hard time keeping up with anything 4WD. It'll be super fun, but have a tough time keeping up.
@poorboysrc Yeah, great point. Of course...
Thanks!
Praying for you and Duncan
Thanks, brother! ❤️
The buzz is gone, replaced with a chassis slap. 😂
Ooshka! evo , yeah yeah yeah!
Yeah, baby! 😂🎄
Sorry for your loss
Thanks, brother! ❤️
Appreciate the condolences and the thumbs up on the 3s battery call!
sorry to hear that.
Thanks, brother! 🙏
Cool build, and run. I have a mixed feeling on this car, with the improvements, it kinda lost a bit of what makes them (original Grasshopper and Hornet) "special". We are never happy but would have preferred a Super Hornet 😊 Take care 🤝
Yeah, I hear you. I'd love a Super Hornet too! 🏆
Just had the procedure early this year….not as fun as putting together a Tamiya kit, but its do able! RIP Duncan❤
Btw, whats the story behind the Hornet tribute song?
Good for you, brother! Many of us dread the procedure, but everyone I know that's had it says the same thing. It's not too bad.
I just made the song with AI. The lyrics can get a little wacky, so its really just supposed to be a fun AI song. 😂
Funny I said to someone I wonder how long before they do a Lunchbox conversion. Looks cool but not for me, but if they did that Lunchbox 🙂
Someone has to find a way to adapt that rear end to the Lunchie. It'll happen! 👍🏻
@@poorboysrc Tamiya will be dumb not to produce this.
condoiences bro, and lovely video.
Thanks so much, brother. 🙏
Love the videos but the cheesy AI songs are killing me😂😂😂😂
Hahaha, they're a lot. Like, a lot, A LOT! Hope they get a good laugh outta ya. 😂
My Condolences
Thank you. ❤️
118th!! Sorry about your friend. Terrible thing.
Lol! I hope the snow shoveling wasn't too bad. 😂
Butt check! Condolences my dude!
Butt check! Haha! Thanks, pal! 👊🏼
Lost my dad 5 years ago to pancreatic. I'm sorry man.
Sorry to hear it, brother. It never gets any easier. 😢
Oh thats terrible. Take a break from filming if needed
I did. Normally I put out 2-3 vids/week. But this week, it was impossible. Life happens, and I appreciate all the support from you excellent viewers. ❤️
First
Yeah, baby! 🤗
Also check out Gartpot and Venom lipo batteries. They both have the 2S batteries with the cables in the center like the old NiMH batteries.
Excellent! Thanks, dude! 👍🏻
Hopefully we get a Falcon re-re soon. We've had all the other entry 2WD buggies re-released (Hornet, Fox, Grasshopper, and Frog).
That would be awesome! Great name, BTW! 😂👊🏼
