Thank you so so much. I struggle trying to find other moms who are doing homeschool in my area and I feel so stuck on what to do, I know for sure I want my kids homeschooled but I’m unsure of how to even start. My son just turned 6 and I filed the notice of intent to homeschool and I’ve been teaching my son a few things throughout the week but this was so helpful. I’m going to watch all of your vids! 💛💛

I understand the struggle. We have homeschooled for 12 years and built a very large community around us. It takes time, patience, and persistance. Join some local social media groups, go to museums or nature centers during the school year and see if you can find other mommas there. Keep at it, ask around, and you will find your people! Look for local co-ops, go to the library and ask the librarian (they always know where the homeschoolers are LOL!) and go to local art studios. Keep exploring your community as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask around. Your kids will see you modeling this determination, and before you know it, you'll have some people and can maybe grow your own group! We started when my kids were little doing field trips with other families. This is a fun way to start making friends outside of the house. Also if you get your kids signed up for sports, clubs or activities, that helps as well. If you attend church, find a local youth group. Happy Homeschooling ❤

@@homeschoolOG wow thank you so much for responding! Your vids have been a ton of help and little by little I’m getting a bit more comfortable and sure of myself with teaching my son. I’ll definitely look into doing some trips to see if I can find some homeschooling mamas! 💛 thank you again!

Thank you for this video! I am also homeschooling in Florida. I did have a question about unschoolers, umbrella academy, etc. Do you have to identify as one of those options? I’m not 100% certain what they all mean, I’m trying to research and get educated before my son turns 6 so I know fully how to apply.

Hi, i’m a mom interested in doing the independent homeschool I have a highschooler who’s about to graduate this upcoming year2025 a middle school student and an elementary student. That you did mention using a Christian based curriculum, would you mind sharing which one that is? I’m at a loss and I feel a bit overwhelmed about all of this, but I’m determined to do it for my kids this upcoming school year thank you.

Hi, I’m in 10th grade and I went solely on flex classes and I’m thinking about going back to public school next year for 11th grade. Can I just simply enroll back into school or is their extra steps. Im done with math, history,English, and science but im not sure I can finish my two electives in time for august. Does it matter?

Congratulations on finishing your classes on FLEX! If you were given passing grades on FLEX, those should transfer back to public school as credits. You should contact the school to be certain of the paperwork they will need, but yes, they would accept you back with FLEX credits. If you do not finish your electives, that just means you'll have to make sure you have enouch elective credits to graduate. Call the school and they will be able to walk you through exactly what you need to do with your FLEX courses/transcript.

Are you able to do evaluation

Since I am not a certified teacher, I am unable to do an evaluation. There are tons of homeschool evaluators in Florida, even ones online. :)

Thank you for the video. So just to be clear, if I enroll my daughter solely in FLVS Flex, I will need to go through the homeschool registration process of sending the letter of intent to the county?

    • @homeschoolOG
      @homeschoolOG  4 місяці тому

Yes! FLVS Flex is for those registered as homeschoolers. You keep records but can utilize any courses on FLVS as needed.

When you say Christian based. Like Montessori? Please list various curricula that is great like Montessori or younger kids in elementary.
I will be starting next year. Finishing this year out.
I have 2 youngest and also want to include them.
My son was tested into gifted. But he lost so much of my lessons when he started school.

Montessori is a teaching style. Many have turned it into New Age Spiritual stuff. (Which personally annoys me as a Montessori teacher for 3-6 yr olds.) Dr. Maria Montessori was a Catholic and taught Christian values in her classes.
FLVS is not Christian based at all. Christian based curriculum I like for littles are The Good And The Beautiful, Master Books, Thinking Tree Journals and just hands on materials.

@MsJoli yes, definitely this is not a secular learning environment.
I'm also familiar with different teaching. I taught High Scope and Teaching Strategies. I'm more hands on, but I still want to know more.
Definitely, the majority are following what's trendy instead of actually knowing the history.
      I do love Montessori style

The only montessori-style curriculum we have ever used was Oak Meadow in the early years. While it's not completely Montesorri, it is definitly inspired and would be worth checking out. Though it is secular and not Christian based. I'm sure there are great montessori curriculum out there. We mostly used literature inspired, like Five in a Row or Sonlight, or Charlotte Mason styled curriculum like Queens Homeschool in the early stages of homeschooling. My children are now teenagers and we use a huge mix of things now. Hope this helps. :)
