- Can you homeschool in Florida? Homeschooling has really gained a lot of acceptance in recent years especially after the last couple of years in the pandemic. There has been a rise in the amount of parents who are taking their children's educations into their own hands. In today's video I am going to go over what the homeschooling laws in Florida are in case anyone is moving here or recently moved here and is considering the homeschool route. And I also wanted to share my reasons for considering it for my daughter.

I will chose #1. I feel like kids at home have lots of potential to learn better. Because as good parent you can see how each of your kids learn, I also want to spend as much time as I can with them.
I feel the same way. I know that's a luxury to be able to say that and even consider homeschooling, but it's a luxury that I have now and didn't have when I was working full time in NY. I always feel like I missed so much those first few years, so now I have a chance to make up for it and give her my best.
@@GeniseKrystalxo nothing more rewarding then this. Your baby will be most appreciative , but the reward you'll get from seeming your child get better everyday is amazing. Also, homeschooling is kids and orangey self freeing .. me and my family are planing to move to FL as well in 3 years. Don't know where to go though.
We have homeschooled in many states and this is the state that seems to have the most community for homeschoolers than anywhere else I've lived.
I also am in NYC & planning to live to FL. I homeschooled my younger child first time this year & it was great!!
I just learned that Florida actually also has virtual homeschooling through the school district. That is free.
Wow really? Do they offer grants for families with low income? And do my child to be online at certain times during the day or at their own pace
@@Afrocreolebombshelle I’m not sure I was just looking up different states that offer public virtual homeschooling. I’m in Southern California.
Thank you for your video , right now I'm stressing so much about making a decision to change my daughter to homeschool.. she has anxiety and she was retained on. 8th grade now she feels so miserable and a failure. I feel so sad to see her going thru all this. I think Is was harder about the Laws here in FL. I wil definitely change her asap to home shcool.

Sad to hear your daughter is having a hard time. Florida is a very homeschooling-friendly state with plenty of options on how to go about it. Best of luck to you! I'm going to be posting more homeschooling videos soon, so I hope those will be helpful to you as well. :)
Actually I feel like you made it sound much easy. I though it was much more complex. I though you have to test your kids, and also have them see a psychologist. And also do evaluation with superintendant. Etc. It made it seem much harder. But it seems easy from MD because you don't have set subjects for kids, in MD you have to do English, Social study, science, health, art, music and PE.
It all sounded scary when I first started looking into it, but it really isn't that complex. I joined a Florida homeschooling group on facebook and they had so many resources and so much info from parents who already went through it all. So it all really has helped.
Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us. My daughter, grandson whos 2 and I are working on moving this yr or next to florida and my daughter would like to do home schooling when the baby is older. So this helps thank you

Thank you for this video, I have been terrified to homeschool my soon to be 3rd grader because I was taken out of school to be homeschooled in 3rd grade and the "unschooling" my parents did was me watching my brothers so they could work and never bought us a book. We never did evals ever. I have a 4th grade education to this day. But I want to homeschool the right way, so this video helped me to learn how to get started. Thank you for all the info

Thank you so much for this video! I am excited in the future to enroll my kiddo in kindergarten, but what makes me nervous is this letter to the superintendent. Are there samples out there? I don't know what to write, how long it should be, and who to send it to. 🤣 Is it electronically sent or physical mail? I'm stressing out too much about it.
You are so welcome! That had me a little worried too, but the more research I am doing and the more I am getting plugged into communities of homeschooling families the more I've come to see that it really isn't all that big of a deal. Look into co-ops, homeschool playgroups, facebook groups, and if none of that works the hslda website that I spoke about in this video has a membership plan where I'm pretty certain you could download a sample of the letter plus a ton of other helpful resources.

What is a umbrella school program ... Like is that like k12 ...I only have one child she's three but I'm so overwhelmed
An umbrella school is a private school that is registered with the Florida dept of ed. They will supervise your child's homeschool program and make sure you guys are in compliance. You still have time to figure it all out. Deep breaths :)

Can homeschool kids get scholarship?
I have seen mention of scholarships for homeschoolers in some of my research online, but I haven't dove into that part as much atm. I'm still mentally preparing for it all. lol
It depends on the type of scholarship your child qualifies for in certain circumstances yes, the law for that changed 11 months ago so that more children do qualify. You can go to the "Step Up for Students" UA-cam page it is a great resource they have a lot of helpful videos that can explain all the different scholarship options and how to apply for it based on your individual situation. They are really nice and helpful so feel free to reach out to them or call if you have any questions. I have my child in the Family Empowerment Scholarship we are very happy with it homeschooling her is the most fulfilling experience I have ever had!
