I love how your face looks the first few seconds after she starts singing. It's like looking at a little kid's face, the first time they see a fireworks display. I love seeing that kind of childlike awe on an adult's face. It's adorable.
Thank you for this. I’ve loved Janice for decades and I teared up a bit when you paused your video. I suspect you teared up a bit too. She’s a legendary blues, soulful voice that should be heard. Thank you for covering this❤
Janis wore her soul like a blanket trying to protect her from pain, hurt, anger, & even love! This woman was one of a kind, & sadly missed by everyone who loved & understood her music ❤ 💚 💙 She truly was a gift that was only with us for a short time, but what a glorious time it was!!! Thank you for such a thoughtful reaction, & I hope you continue to discover her music, you won't be disappointed ❤ 💚 💙 I highly recommend, Ball & Chain & Cry Baby!!!
Janis Joplin was a one of a kind singer with a unique voice. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. She had a lot of great songs such as "Me & Bobby McGee", "Piece Of My Heart", "Cry Baby", "Ball & Chain", "Down On Me", "Maybe", "Little Girl Blue", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over" & her original song "Mercedes Benz".
“Move Over” is possibly my fav - it makes no sense since this song and “Ball and Chain” are at least two that immediately offer a reasonable claim to stand aa more obvious choices because of their respective greatnesses, but something about “Move Over” just resonates with me.
A lot of ppl of the day teased this wonderful woman. She was epic tho. I wish I could go back in time to meet her and tell her exactly how special she was.
I’ve loved Janis since the mid 60’s ❣️Grew up listening to the best music of the 60’s 70’s 80’s and am so happy that You have discovered Janis ! It was such a sad day when Miss Janis died, my broken heart 💔 has never healed ❤️🩹only when I sit in the dark & listen to her voice, it heals me each time I play her music! Thanks for this reaction, it is wonderful 🥰☮️
Janis, like all too few people, didn't sing music, she felt music, she lived it as only truly talented performers can. She will always be my favourite, along with Joe Cocker
In less than 2 year's time we lost Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison, all at the age of 27. For those of us who lived back then to see it live, the losses were huge
Can you imagine her trying to record this today? Autotune would remove that raspy quality that we all love so much. I'll keep listening to the old stuff I grew up with.
Wonderful reaction! Janis is one of a kind! Other must watch: -Work Me Lord from the same live 1969 concert, Stockholm (my favorite song of Janis), -Ball and Chain, Live 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, -Little Girl Blue, Live 1969 Tom Jones Show (incredible), softer but with power and passion.
😂😂😂 I love watching people’s first reactions to her!! She is my favorite. Some of my other favs by her are “cry baby” live, “ball & chain” live, “work me lord” live 😊
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant~ Bravo! And a really, really delightful surprise on your face, JB. Still hoping to hear "Little Girl Blue", Janis Joplin. Thanks!
And people say they don't understand opera!! Well, this is opera. Unbelievable voice, insane passion, incredible musicians, Gerschwin, and better than opera lyrics to sublime melody. Summertime And the livin' is easy Fish are jumpin' And the cotton, the cotton is high Oh, your daddy, he's rich And your ma', she's good lookin' So hush, little baby Don't you cry One of these mornings You're gonna rise up singing You gonna spread your wings And take, and take to the sky Until that morning Ain't nothing can harm you With daddy (daddy) and mammy (mammy) standing by (oh, standing by) Standing by Standing by, little baby Standing by
The studio version of this is awesome too and different enough that you should listen to it as well, even if you don't do a reaction. The song was written in the 1930s and many other people performed it before Janis, in different styles.
I’m so glad to see that you are in a much better place in your life. I have been with you since the beginning of your UA-cam journey and know how difficult things have been at times. You have a wonderful soul and spirit and I wish you continued happiness. Thank you for being so open and allowing us to be a part of your life. Peace
Check out Janis Joplin Work Me Lord Live in Stockholm 1969. It's the last song of a long set and she still kills it!!! Many people tend to sleep on the one, but it's in her top three performances in my opinion, and I saw her live. Good luck!
This is my absolute favorite from her , so grateful for my parents exposing me to every music style, era, culture, genre and trend. I adore the fact that your family has provided you a list of songs they loved for you to experience. I am hoping to get some reactors to get into Ertha Kitt, My daughter played "I wanna be evil" for me a few years ago, absolutely adore her, she voiced the character Ezma in the movie Emperors new groove, she's amazing 🔥😎🦄🎁
Same here, and true with a lot of artists. That generation laid down the bedrock of what we call "popular music", which drew together the multiple strands of music, jazz, blues, ragtime, classical, folk etc and created 90% of its canon. Popular music was itself a genre and is, in my opinion, over, in the same way that classical, jazz, opera etc are over. It fragmented into new, isoteric strands with niche appeal, some of which can barely be described as "music" at all.
same here. Been listening to her for over 50 years. Used to see her at the Fillmore, but never really realized how good she was until the last few years. I think the most authentic white blues singer.
Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers did a live version of this song was shorter but omg was it fantastic! Love both of them, she was differently one of a kind.
You definitly need to take a listen to "Cry baby" (live in Toronto), "Little girl blue" & "Raise your hand" (live in Tom Jones show), "Ball and chain" ( live in Monterey)... Your goosebumps will get goosebumps...
Funny enough, you happened to post this on my birthday. I love Janis' soulful singing. It's nothing you'd expect. Well, at least I didn't. It is a bit of a stretch, but perhaps you would also like Thin Lizzy's "Johnny The Fox"? I find myself listening to that song and album sporadically. Sometimes I find myself saying "I need more Phill Lynot in my life". Ergo, I play one of his best albums to myself.
Never a big fan of Janis, but I do love this song, from the modern opera by George Gershwin, Porgy and Bess. Probably my favorite version is by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, or Audra McDonald.
The rasp in her voice was forced when she was in college friends ran her voice through an oscilloscope and discovered she produced 7 distinct tones when she did it. Watch her live performances & interviews on The Dick Cavett show they had chemistry She was always at her best on his show. Dick Cavett himself is as they say "real". He had a way of putting most of his guests at ease because he didn't play dirty by dropping bomb questions. Both he and Janis had exceptionally brilliant minds.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! JANIS JOPLIN IS THE BEST FEMALE VOCALIST EVER!!! YOU HAVE NOW LOOKED DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ YES, LIVE, NO AUTO-TUNE, NO MANIPULATION, VOCAL WISE. PURE TALENT!!!
Heavy blues influence in her voice, (Robert plant)eat your heart out. It is occurred to me that some of you may not know who Robert plant is but for those who do you'll know what I'm talking about.
there are a couple of singers similar to Joplin who didn't get as much attention especially Lydia Pense from the group Cold Blood and Kathi McDonald. Kim Carnes and Bonnie Tyler. Maggie Bell.
She rocked the 60s, that's for sure. R.I P. Janice ❤️
She's badass!!! Love the reaction
And exactly why Janis is hands down my all time favorite female singer! She's incomparable and nobody can sing like her!
truth
She was only one like Jimi Hendrix
There will never be another one like her..very unique!
She opens her mouth and spirits are released.
She grabs you heart with a fist that doesn't let go until you're beside yourself,. She was a one of a kind and no one else has duplicated her since.
H's feeling it. One of the best reactions.
Loved The Look On Your Face Man I Was 12 When I Discovered Her Music Still Lovin' Her At 55 Love You Janis RIP Beautiful Lady ❤️💔
I love how your face looks the first few seconds after she starts singing. It's like looking at a little kid's face, the first time they see a fireworks display. I love seeing that kind of childlike awe on an adult's face. It's adorable.
That's when our music was real. When you could sing without help.
His one of the best reactions..
….what? Lol if anything, there’s more access today than ever of people singing amazingly. You clearly just gave up listening to artists.
@@goeienacht just a boomer who can't rationalize the fact that the times have changed theres a lot of them in comments to vids like this
There will never be another!!!💙
He looks in disbelief. Great
James, I know how you feel when you hear this woman sing. She is one in a lifetime. Thank you for keeping Janis Joplin legacy alive
Just great!
She was soul - the embodiment of soul and emoting through song. The most soulful singer of all time.
Thank you for this. I’ve loved Janice for decades and I teared up a bit when you paused your video. I suspect you teared up a bit too. She’s a legendary blues, soulful voice that should be heard. Thank you for covering this❤
I believe her voice is what people imagine there souls to sound like.

She's second of my fav singer after Ella.. She's magnificent!
Janis Joplin was a one of a kind singer with a unique voice. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. "Piece of My Heart" 👌
"Piece of My Heart" has to be her/ our eternal song, pure raw bleeding wound song, scar tissue nerve endings.
“Move Over” is possibly my fav - it makes no sense since this song and “Ball and Chain” are at least two that immediately offer a reasonable claim to stand aa more obvious choices because of their respective greatnesses, but something about “Move Over” just resonates with me.
She brought it out from deep in her soul. Every single song she sang!
This is the reason I have a canvas of Janis hanging in my sitting room, she is a Goddess
Rips your heart out and ask for more...
✌️💜🎶
A lot of ppl of the day teased this wonderful woman. She was epic tho. I wish I could go back in time to meet her and tell her exactly how special she was.

Yeah, we lost our minds too when that voice came over the air waves back then.
OMG I loved this reaction. I gotta see if you have more Janis reactions.
Pearl was one of a kind. So glad I was around back in those days of real music.
JB's in LOVE! 😝♥️

"Me & Bobby McGee" Is a favorite

I had the Exacf same feelings when I heard it for the very first time. Orchestra is out of this world as well.

Hands down the greatest soul/rock singer of her era, maybe of all time. She lets her voice go wherever it wants to go.
The most soulful singer to ever walk this earth.

Oh gosh, I'm missing my hippie daze.

She makes me cry. That's in a good way. 💔
Yes, I agree. The greatest rendition of this song, IMHO.

JB it’s been a while, glad to see you again. Love this version of this track. Her voice is unique ❤
Yes, she was one of a kind, listened to her a lot when I was a teen.
This song is an old Blues tune. Nobody but Janis could do a classic like this and make it her own
Yes, she was astonishing.
I suggest more Ella Fitzgerald.
She was amazing. It's sad that I didn't appreciate her music when I was younger. 😿

Otis Redding sang at Monterey "Try a Little Tenderness." Off the charts!
"Little Girl Blue", or "Cry Baby" by Janis, live versions.
You WON'T be disappointed!! 😏
Rolling Stone listed its 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and it ranked Janis Joplin as the 28th Greatest Singer of All Time.
She should have been at least top 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

React to the live versions of 'Maybe' and 'Little girl blue.'
Polyphonic voice - very rare.
Some listen Dakota Staton, heard Ella sing this in 58.
she died at age 27 in 1970 ...ever though she died way way before my time i still think shes amazing. I wish she didnt die.
She is part of the male boxers dropping club..Lol😂😂😂😂. God bless my brother.. James Zrenjad Desjardins
No shortage of emotion or energy with Joplin. She didn't cheat the audience. Cry Baby and Ball and Chain also from Janice
