re: QT - OCD is a common comorbidity of autism, so it's "somewhat less surprising" to find out that an adult with OCD has previously unidentified autism than it is to find out that an adult with no common autism comorbidities has previously unidentified autism. However, it's also true that someone with OCD might also score higher on autism diagnosis tests without actually being autistic. CPTSD can also cause non-autistic people to score higher on autism tests. But late-diagnosed autistic people are also statistically more likely to have CPTSD than non-autistic people. OCD and CPTSD are 2 things that can make it difficult to tease apart whether some traits are autism or not, sometimes even for professionals. ALSO, re: Hasan talking later in this clip, social conditioning of EVERYBODY means that even unidentified neurodivergent people tend to "find" each other as friends. So anecdotally, it's not surprising (for autistic people watching from the outside of the Fear & crew + their close friends) that a number of you are scoring high on the RAADS-R, if it's actually the situation that Hasan has autism. Was thinking about how part of the need for a diagnosis from a professional is someone to make sure the questions are asked and answered honestly. Particularly when they don't realize they're being obfuscations.
@@Lukathesnowmew Exactly! And this is why it's a red flag if you score high (-ish) on a self-administered test, because it's likely you missed the point of some of the questions & would actually score even higher if you had a professional to guide you through the questions. For example, the question that asks about hand stimming is worded in a way that many high-masking autistic people might not answer correctly. It gives examples of stims that are very identifiably "weird for normal people" behaviours, when a high-masking autistic person is reasonably likely to have adopted more subtle behaviours under lifelong social pressures. Hasan ended up answering accurately, but before I began to suspect I was autistic & started examining things closely and realized what some of my stims were, I never would have scored on that question. I also always laugh when people come to the question about the rocking chair and get all indignant and go "That's not autism! Lots of people like rocking chairs!" (which is the opposite situation to the hand stimming question - so many people seem to understand how to accurately evaluate their behaviour and how rate their answer properly on this one).
I'm a therapist that has a lot of experience with ADHD and autism. Hasan is right that QT would definitely be autistic, though Hasan would be right there with her. Will seems oddly neurotypical, but Austin is a weird case.
Most therapists don’t even have the credentials to diagnose autism let alone all these psychologists who think they sage when they took ONE class on it in undergrad!
IMO most psychologists are not qualified nor given the proper time and resources to diagnose autism, or ADHD for that matter, in adults. Since when does taking ONE class (if that) on autism during your undergrad make you a credible authority?
I swear to god the internet has no idea what autism even means anymore. Y’all will see the most social, neurologically normal individual on earth and diagnosis him with autism simply because he has an interest or hobby.
Thats the problem Autism is a spectrum. I'm Autistic was diagnosed at 5 as a Black boy and some of my traits are not stereotypically Autistic. We need to see more Autistic expressions across the spectrum so people can understand that. People were confused when I told them I was Autistic because I was one of the most popular people in my college, I love to go part and rave, people perceive me as being high intelligent. But you're right the double edge sword is people will meet one Autistic person or let's be honest see one on line and apply those traits to other people when across Neurodivergencies we share traits and a non-neurodivergent person can have these traits as well.
Pretty sure he’s not going to get diagnosed because it wouldn’t be useful for him to do so, but he did score somewhat high on the RAADS-R test and his brother is apparently autistic, so there’s a likelihood he’s autistic. He is apparently diagnosed with ADHD
