  • If you need to get a job done properly and quickly the Festool system has you covered. Todd from Top Coat Finishes walks us though his process of stripping the finish from a door that they are restoring. He's using the Festool CT 26E, the ETS125 and the Rotex RO 90.

    You conveniently skipped the hardest part to sand. The moulding makes the paint stripper much more viable.

    I found this while looking for videos that specifically give advice on removing finish from detail so... this was the opposite of helpful for me and almost seems misleading. Honestly, I think most people can pretty quickly figure out several ways to remove a finish from a perfectly flat surface. Heat guns rock. If you had finished the job on both sides I would not have felt compelled to leave a comment.

  • @memyselfi9087
    @memyselfi9087 9 років тому +119

    What about the moulding? The Festool side never removed anything from the details, just the flat stuff. Not a very good comparison.

    Todd & Everyone at TopCoat,
    Thank you for all your informative finishing videos. Like many hobbyist woodworkers, finishing is an area where we need good mentoring. Your videos have influenced my Festool purchases and practices. Question: How would you go about stripping and refinishing the molding? Would you use the traditional stripper because you want to preserve the original shape that sanding might damage? Would love to see a video on this topic. Thanks again and Happy New Year and health to all of you! Mark Hays

    • @TheHeavyend81
      @TheHeavyend81 2 роки тому +1

      Didn't you watch the video. They don't bother with the mouldings as it cant be done with Festools, only with stripper so they ignore the hard bit.

  • @fabianthierry4786
    @fabianthierry4786 4 роки тому +2

    Yep but I'm still going to use the stripper. That door has exactly the size of the sander, it's flat and they don't touch the molding. When you're on your knees or a wiggling ladder, under SoCal sun, it's a different ballgame.

      Well Sir, you should simply scrape them off slowly and collect every last little piece. Then place them in a sack so you have something to snack on while watching your programs. But first consider yourself lucky mate, ya have such a rare opportunity for such a lavish treat, so don’t let it go to rubbage bin. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous.. Indeed vintage lead based paint chips are hard to come by in my hamlet. I find them to be a delightful and delicious treat. Oh yes shire, they are indeed very nutritious as well.
