I remember watching this live. It was a huge event. Kimbo was a true entertainer. As was Tank. I was a huge fan of his since the early days of UFC, and he was older here, but still carried that name recognition

Well if the dude doesn't understand anything about defense, and just lowers his hands and goes full offense no matter what.... that worked in the late 90s.... will never fly in modern MMA... People evolved, Tank did not.

Tank would have destroyed him in his earlier days Tank Abbott is the one that brought street fighting to commercial industry he was the only Street Fighter back when UFC started out.. no one could beat tank back in the day.. he would win his fights then go to the bars and fight people there everybody that's fought him said he gets like a mule.. I think it would have been a better matchup if they would have done this year's earlier..
Say what you want about Kimbo , whenever he went in there just like his street fights he had no fear and went in there to put you to sleep or go out on his shield.

Even though Tank went 10-15 in mma, he is still my favorite of all time. He didn’t care about things like records, championship belts, or tournaments. He was just there to fight. Win or lose, it didn’t matter to him, he just wanted to hurt people. Plus his “pit fighting” style was hella entertaining. RIP Kimbo

@@mattbarker1411 he didn’t care how it looked. He wanted to fight the way he wanted to fight. Plus the same could be said for a lot of fighters back in the early days. That’s what made it entertaining, there were no set styles. Also of course he didn’t care about the rules or sportsmanship, that’s how he got the bad boy image that was alluring to so many. It’s all a matter of preference

he was definitely one fighter i was truly excited to watch. great person/fighter. Something about him just made us gravitate towards his energy. mistakes happened, lessons learned. he still brought the fight and held his own

he was 43, fat, out of shape, slow and reflexes shot, and had lost 7 out of his 8 previous fights. I think you're overstating kimbo quite a bit. He got rocked by an average, in his prime fighter not long after. And then again, not long after. All of this while being gassed to the moon, and put in the ring with opponents that were hand picked to push him. Average fighter.

Wish this was Tank in his prime. I think Kimbo would of still ended this in the first round. Once Kimbo turned pro, he started really working on his jujitsu and ground game, and he became a much well rounded fighter.

Kimbo was a good street fighter, it just didn’t translate to organized fighting. He reminds me of the street ballers that never make it in the NBA. It’s just a different set of skills. Don’t get me wrong, he as the street ballers are AMAZING athletes.

Tank was as good of a fighter as he needed to be; deliver one solid punch to the head as soon as possible. Early UFC had a lot of filler material for the tournaments, that was one of the most common complaints I remember. Once they switched the format his luck changed. Kimbo was a street guy as well, not intimidated, and could match him for power.

I was extremely surprised to see how genuine and nice guy Kimbo was when he did the UFC tv show. I had him wrong in my mind, I wanted to hate him because I thought he was going to be arrogant like Anderson Silva, but I was wrong. He seemed like such a great dude.
This is one of Kimbos most savage moments when he threw his mouth piece in the crowd.. An this is only second time Tank Abbott has ever been knocked out.... Kimbo was a bad dude!!!

Always thought UFC missed out on a Lesnar vs Kimbo match early on. They both started mma around the same year were both older when they debuted in mma. Woulda been a cool matchup with being from different backgrounds too. Lesnar was a wrestler and Kimbo was natural striker.. woulda been a great test for both early on and it woulda sold some PPVs
