Yeah. 02-03 spurs were absolutely fantastic and had one of the least talked-about among greatest playoff runs. They dethroned the defending champs, and that mavericks series was amazing, especially game 6 when Stephen Jackson, Manu and my man Steve Kerr helped Tim for a huge come back. Maybe it's because Tim Duncan was too consistently good. The worst game he had statistically that playoffs was 12 points 13 rebs in a blow-out win against the lakers. Also it may have been anti-climactic to face the less-than glamorous Nets to cap off a championship run. But prime Tim Duncan was simply great, hands-down one of the two most dominant big men in the new millennium, the other being Shaq himself.

Underrated as hell. This man has GOAT status and everyone overlooks it. He is loyal and strives in silence to get the work done. Never asked to be traded and always put his team before him. His stats might not jump out and surprise you but his status would. 5x NBA champ, 3x Finals MVP, 2x MVP, 15x All NBA & All Defense (only player in history to be in both categories their entire career) and the 1997-98 ROY. I consider him as the greatest pf of all time and he is in my starting 5.
If you want a perfect big in todays era it has to be duncan....no hate to anyone else but duncan would be the perfect center in todays nba cause he could do it all efficiently....he gave you the best floor and still had a great ceiling somehow...you won't shoot him off the floor
Only chance Giannis has to dominate in the playoffs. He'll never be a good shooter so he needs to look at guys like Duncan, KG, Barkley and Hakeem. Kind baffling how forwards/centers just ignore the post game as if it can't help with spacing and easy kick out shots.

It was his greatest performance ever, single-handedly closing out the Los Angeles Lakers.

One of the most annoying things about NBA fans is their insistence on calling Tim Duncan the "greatest power forward of all time" basically as a cop out to not have to rank him against the gauntlet of all time centers. Yes, Duncan played power forward at times during his career (positions don't matter, skillsets do). The reason he was listed at power forward was only because of the fact that he had a HOF teammate, David Robinson, already listed at the center position. Why do they list positions at all considering the same rules apply for all of the players? No clue. Probably for novices to follow the game. 25 out of the 29 teams who wanted to draft Duncan would have started him at center not PF. What is Tim Duncan good (great) at? Rim protection, rebounding, post scoring and passing out of double teams. All of those skills are skills that you would find in centers. Back in the early 00s and before, this was also what you got from most PFs but the idea of the PF and the modern PF is supposed to be more agile and usually better at guarding on the perimeter if forced onto more athletic players who like to attack off the dribble. Not exactly what Duncan is known for. Tim was so good that he could pass as both positions but was best suited to be a center because of his sheer size and lack of explosive athletic ability. The Spurs smartly staggered when their twin towers went to the bench so Tim also played center while playing on the same team as Robinson. Then, he played center for the entire second half of his career, longer than he played PF if you check Basketball reference WITHOUT including what I already said about him playing center when Robinson went to the bench. Combine that with the fact that if Tim Duncan were to play in today's era 29 out of 30 GMs would play him at the center. That is unless he ends up on the Sixers. Yikes, they would be unstoppable. Last thing, it's hard to rank Duncan against the centers because it forces us to make tough decisions. These tough decisions aren't a thing when you are talking PFs who don't have nearly the history or talent that we find from the centers. Is Duncan better than Shaq? What about Hakeem? Is he the GOAT or is Kareem or Wilt still above him? Personally, I would rank him as the "best" center of all time in the sense that regardless of the era, he would be the most effective towards helping you win a championship while anchoring your team as a center. If we are talking "greatest" on the other hand, which to me means how you dominated against your own era (resume/accolades), I would have him behind Russel and Kareem for the 3rd greatest center of all time. From 98-05, Tim Duncan was arguably the best player in the NBA: NBA rookie of the year, 8x all-star, 8x first team all NBA, 2x NBA MVP, 3x NBA champ, NBA all-star game MVP, 3x finals MVP, 6x first team defense during his prime years. His 02-03 season was legendary.

Cookie monster is what we always call Timmy .....he starts in every all time great team I choose ....type of guy that shows up gets a triple double ,wins the game walks to locker ,showers ,say good game guys and goes home to get ready for the next day at work......one of my favorites
It did change somewhat in the sense his mobility was compromised after '08 due to have 1 terrible knee in which he would have to wear brace on. If you watch the old videos of Duncan from '97-'07 and compare it to '08-'16 you will notice how quick he was in pulling off his moves during the first half of his career vs the second half where he was slower but still effective.

Before Duncan started playing on one knee towards 2009 and so on.... he was one of the best two way players we’ve seen! Spurs were always highly ranked in defense thanks to Timmy! Best pf of all time and a top 8 player of all time

He's more than just best power forward ever. He's one of best post player at power forward or center. One of last players who along with his own points and defensive stats, a big man who a team could truly run whole offense through.
The only superstar in a small market for his entire career. He never had the teammates that Shaq or LeBron had. Yet he still has more rings than both those players.

While he topped out at usually 25 ppg duncan would get 15 reb 4 to 5 blocks and 4 to 5 assists and kill you slowly in his prime

He's more than just best power forward ever. He's one of best post player at power forward or center. One of last players who along with his own points and defensive stats, a big man who a team could truly run whole offense through.
