LEGO Harry Potter 2022 Hungarian Horntail Dragon (76406) Review

- Usually I think the buildable creature sets from LEGO Harry Potter could be a pass, but the Hungarian Horntail has blown me away. The minifigure scale model has a lot of detail and is a fantastic small display piece.

This set is great. I miss old-style molded dragons, like the classic red dragon, but this is a great buildable one, about as good as one can be, which is pretty good in this case.
And Harry looks phenomenal as well
Like smaug
@@nabilazka1208 Exactly! That’s just the coolest animal mold they’ve made, but they never do dragons like that anymore
@@Jay-Zech Well, they do, but LEGO mainly saves all that for City, Jurassic World, and Star Wars now.
@@jaydonmagan4694 Let me specify: They never do dragon molds anymore, just SW and animal molds. Looking back that was a pretty confusing statement😂
honestly, I haven't been digging a lot of harry potter sets for the past few years, the builds just werent my thing, and the builds that stood out to me were to expensive. Once I saw this announced it was and still is the harry potter set im most excited for. I absolutely love the build of the dragon, and I'll probably replace the stone stand with a custom smaller black stand and add it to my creator 3-in-1 medival castle. Its a beautiful set
Well, to me, i think this is the best of the three, the second best is fawkes, and the last one is hedwig, not a bad design over all, just the other two are way better
Lol what you just said it's the best then said the other two are better
Agreed
@@endangeredmexican9644 I think they were referring to the Hedwig in the last bit
@@thomasmitchell6948 ok I see now lol
@@endangeredmexican9644 jeez some people truly are thick skulled huh?
Lego really needs to introduce the stud with hole pieces in new transparent colors, but that's my only gripe with this set.
This is actually one I’d consider buying - it looks awesome and that minifig really is pretty stunning!
If you’re in the UK; you should visit Lacock in Wiltshire - the abbey there is where they filmed Philosopher’s stone and even has a cauldron in a classroom. As well as Slughorn and the Potters house in the village
Thanks for getting this review out! This was by far the most exciting set from this wave for me. Glad that it seems to be as good in hand as it does in the photos
Thanks for reviewing this set Holly! :D i am very excited for this tooo!
Can’t wait to see what’s next.. honestly, these videos have been sheer genius. Great job, great video, loving it! Hope you’re having a good vacation!
I so can't wait till this is available. Thanks for doing the review.
I don’t like the Fawks of Hedwig sets we got previously but I really love this set, it’s probably even my favorite out of the entire summer wave. I love how detailed it is, the Harry minifigure is amazing and I love that its in minifigure scale and depicting an actual scene
The fire piece looks like a recolor of the flame from the LEGO Frozen II Salamander build.
Great review! Thanks for the daily uploads :)
Ooh damn you got the sets already! Here its 1 June! Can't wait till your Shrieking Shack review!!
This is an awesome buildable creature because it's minifigure scale like you said. That's so cool.
This is the one I've wanted to wait for your review of and even double because I just got finished watching The Goblet Of Fire last night. The Harry minifig looks neat along with the egg. I'll agree with the broom piece as it could've been just a straight broom piece instead of this buildable one.
It looks really cool and the fire looks so beautiful.
And By the way Holly I love the scarf it gives me you're making the videos out of a Hogwarts common room😀
Those wings are so beautiful !! i am so glad they are not brick-built !!!
Spelling mistake in the title. Might want to fix that.
Thanks for the comprehensive review.
Bloody Brilliant
Hey Holly, totally agree with the broom been cast comment, this will be my 1st build-able set of the 3 Lego have put out for Harry Potter.
Exited to use the wings on my Horntail MOC. Not sure what else I'll use from this set but ready to experiment!
For me this is the best of the new sets. I like grimmauld place and ministry of magic but feel they are grossly over priced for what they are
Didn’t even know this out yet. Added to the want list
I think this set is great. Nice to see a good build brick built dragon.
I didn't mind the last one too much, as it was trying to capture the more angular beak that the Horntail has in the film whereas here it looks a bit more snout like.
But yeah, this build is still the definitive Horntail.
The design in the face especially reminds me of Atrid's dragon Stormfly from the How to Train your Dragon series.
Great review! Will really appreciate if you can do a follow-up video: removing the stand; wanna know if it's able to stand on its own too.
Thanks!
I will be, I’ll also try walk through the process and show how to modify the bottom to look cleaner once it’s removed
I like the flame pice in purple & orange
do you feel sorry for him perched on his tummy and not on his feet? ouchies
Sorry to be an annoying super-nerd, but the Horntail is female, as Harry is stealing her egg.
@@GarrettTheVikingi should have know, she's dreamy lol
@@johnnyg2501 🤣
You already know the Harry Potter designers were taking notes from Ninjago's dragons when constructing this set!
For the money, these types of sets are worth it, but due to the funky wing-flapping crank thing, the wings are stuck in a wide-open orientation. That means no sweeping them back, like in the movie. Not the end of the world, I guess.
I’ve become excited to buy Lego again!
This is the only most get for me in the Harry Potter wave this summer. I can't decide if it's going to go on my Goblet of Fire shelf or my dragon shelf. Not really sure yet.
i love it!!!!
I think the horntail looks really good for being buildable, but I hope that Lego will make a molded Ukrainian ironbelly like the Smaug in the hobbit set, for an escape from gringotts set
That would be amazing! However, LEGO is stingy when it comes to molded creatures and if that were to happen that would prob bump the sets price up about $50 just for the dragon.
I hope so too, though I have hope with this now if they do make it buildable. They just have to go all out and not try shrink it
I love the Hungarian Horntail, but wish they’d brought back the magnet and dragon egg from the original set.
That’s a great Harry Potter set
Hey holly! I have a question, do you play a brass instrument like trumpet, French horn, or trombone?
I wish the eyes aren’t stickers 😵
Wow another review so soon, will there be another one later today?😝
I accidentally scheduled this 12 hours earlier than I meant to so sadly not
@@HollyOnFilm Ok looking forward to Shrieking Shack and dumbledore office review😬
This was really helpful cuz my brother broke my dragon Lego set
You could EASILY bring this dragon into any Castle theme as well
Since BIONICLE cancellation in 2016, the only system set I've bought was Gargantos from Doctor Strange (almost perfect Dungeons and Dragons Beholder), I've just prefered spending my money on Bricklink for getting Technic and CCBS pieces and making BIONICLE MOCs, but I feel, this will be first set, since Gargantos, I'm really interested in ^^
Am I the only one who noticed she wrote hungarian hotel on like the section things on the scrollbar lol
Im happy cause I can take his arms rub off the printing and add them to my multiverse of madness Wanda fig to make it more accurate
The only thing I don't like about this set are the eyes. They just look way too derpy.
My on way getting soon 👍
Harry comes with the wrong wand
when are you going to remove the base? I'm really interested in learning how to do it, but i don't have the model yet and I don't want to mess it up. Thanks!!
I did yesterday so that I could transport it home and it looks like it will only take some very minimal modding to make it look good. I’ll make a full video outlining how to do it and what I do to sort out his belly in a week or two
I love the minifigure but the set looks awful to me. It's one of those that I squinted at to kind of blur all the details together. It's just too much going on and the limitations of LEGO stand out too much for my eye. The spine of the dragon is incredible. I wanted a set from another event, hopefully next year.
Got it today....is it not too difficult to build, right?
Considering this is £10 more costly than the Hedwig and Fawkes sets, I'd like to hope this is better and more detailed! Seeing it in person however, I didn't feel that impressed by it compared to Hedwig; this just felt too skinny in places and the wings looking so barebones really took me out of it (but it was the best way it could be done though). This is a nice set, but just not for me this time.
I’m soo upset, I have the fawx (idk how to spell the name) set and in the night it somehow fell off the shelf and smashed into …a lot of pieces (I loved that set but at least I built it again)
Nice accent and nice set
A nice set but that, to me, was once again ruined by LEGO's laziness in recolouring the joints to brown! I mean...it's the 4th or 5th buildable creature with the same issue, the last one being the T-Rex.
With the amount of times they build brown creatures, it's just inadmissible that they still haven't recoloured that piece.
This is a must have if one has the two others, Fawkes and Hedgwick..As I do..But I have no reason to buy any of all the new sets I want until a proper double xp shows up. Until then, I will just buy whatever from my wanted list it takes to get various gwps I might fancy.
Do you have all the sets with you on you’re vacation?
Yep, while it would have been easier and saved me time if I waited until I got home to get them, I’d much rather get them sooner and bring them home
@@HollyOnFilm I get the sooner than later thing 😆 but I would also be very scared to lose stuff while traveling of not having the space in my suitcase 🧳😬
Wishing you save travels and a great vacation for the remainder of it!
Its cool but i just find most lego sets to damm small
Have you seen the Hogwarts teachers Brickheads?
I'm Hungarian 🇭🇺
The head is way way to small!!
I don't know if it's just laziness or ignorance, but to just copy-paste the same mechanism even though it is flawed is pretty lame for a designer. The over-flexing of the wings and the jerky wing movement can all be very easily fixed (see JK Brickworks). The use of yellow Technic half-bushes even though grey ones are still in production and the visible orange pieces are frustrating to see on a display set. I think customer feedback should be taken more seriously regardless of the product price tag, especially if one's company slogan is "only the best is good enough".
The dragon looks really good otherwise, you can see Wes's passion for dragons here.
this is the set I have been looking forward to this set as soon as I hear that I heard this would be a set!!! also great review!!!
