- Here's the Master-Grade 1/100 scale Full Armor Gundam [Gundam Thunderbolt] Ver.Ka! As we finish the review here in part 2, I'm covering all the armor and weapons, and more gimmicks, for this awesome kit! It's expensive and may not appeal to everyone for different reasons, but there's no denying that it's certainly impressive!

My understanding is that the chest vents are just that: exhaust ports to vent excess heat and gas. I would guess that the small part is a blocker plate, meant to contain the heat in the inhospitable Thunderbolt sector. Hot gas probably doesn't mix with those static lightning discharges.
So, whoever designed this for the anime/manga/whatever, did they make sure to add enough missile pods and shields? Lmao, it makes buster and heavy arms look lightweight.
But yeah I really like that backpack regardless, pretty sweet with all its features. The twin beam rifle isn't bad either.
Too true, before the full armor came into being, the heavy arms and buster gundam looked like monsters with their weaponry and armor and overall awesomeness, then this monster of a gundam put them in their place and was one of the most INSANE looking gundams ever. It makes the heavy arms and buster look like children compared to the full armor

They should release a MG version of Acguy Thunderbolt Ver w/all the goddamn accessories!

Hell yea, some of those parts are doable without like the zaku cannon shield, zaku machinegun, but dude the flamthrower and Darryl's sniping gear

Everyone is hyped for the Psycho Zaku but I want to see the Gelgoog Thunderbolt Version. HG or MG I don't care I just love that MS.

HG knees are white meanwhile MG is dark blue. That's another different I spot
Seriously, bandai should use back the ABS parts for the frame and joints, these soft plastic are garbage. This kit seems heavy enough and it's just so wobbly on the base, and the plastic will scratch very easily .....not only this kit, some of the kit that using the same soft plastic have the same issue.
I think they starting doing that with the MG AGE kits. I was disappointed that they used the same type of plastic for the Nu Ver. Ka's frame. The knee always droop down and the kit felt like it wants to topple backwards when standing.

they definitely could have done a better job on that base. it looked like it was starting to bend by the end of the review. I think that was mainly because you used both segments that they included for the arm of the base, it might hold up the kit better with just one. I might get an action base 1 to go with my kit and save this base for another kit since it can accept normal action base connectors.

that was my plan.
I really love this kit. I am a sucker for MB's that have a more industrial, blocky and rough look. And the amount of extras all around the frames makes it gorgeous. This kit is great went it comes to customization, the kit bashing you can use with all it's parts makes is great for someone that want to use it on other kits, specially for competition in 1/100. In any case i can't wait for the the Psycho Zaku in which i hope the backpack with all the things in it's back, won't make it too heavy.

this certainly does look much better with all the armor on it. i personally, from seeing the way it looks in multiple different review videos, would NOT display it without the armor.

Heroduothecomedian If you were to have it without the backpack, it looks like some evil alternate-reality version of the RX-78-2. I think you could make some awesome dioramas with this kit and the 3.0

arm on the base is separate part because you can use one part for supporting the gundam on standing pose with feet touching the ground, and you use two part for posing gundam in air. that's why bandai made the arm two separate part. as far as i know, Bandai include the instruction to use only one part for standing pose and two part for air pose in manual book.

It's worth noting you can take the base down a level by removing one of the pieces and have it more standing than flying. Still for the list price it might as well have included the new Riniscita base. Hopefully the Psycho Zaku will at any rate.

Ive been debating getting this kit for a long time... I have the HG and love it. Being smaller and lighter, I can get great action poses on an action base. Worried about the stability of the MG, and I hate the joint cover material. So what do the joints look like without it?

As much as I like the less complicated design of the Gundam itself, I hate how the backpack feels feels too boxy that looked like pla plate put together... I guess they are taking the design from the gundam itself.
That is such a pain to put on all the armour.
I was hesitant about it with the lack of inner frame. When you showed the armor being attached, I'm convinced now why Bandai didn't go into detail. Definitely a must buy.

Tons of dynamic aerial pose pics near the bottom. But yeah, the stand it comes with is pretty subpar.

i hope an rg of this kit would be released knowing that there is already a rx-78-1 frame that they can use, though i think it would either be a pbandai or hopefully a regular release.

In the HG, the back pack had those "plastic" thingies similar to the arms.......
I agree with you. The HG's shield arms are so basic when compared to these.

I think the segmented arm is for ground poses, seeing the the way it was segmented also allow for the connector to be attached.
It took me 2 hours to just build the arms. I was so OCD that I made sure the wrinkles of the cloth are identical of both arms.

Was thinking...Ya think we'll get a MG version of the Atlas Gundam from Gundam Thunderbolt? The ball joints all over it will make it's pose ability extremely interesting.

hey Zaku, would you recommend getting a normal 1/100 action base for this kit? i was thinking that a normal base would be more stable.
Well, one thing you can do with this, which I forgot about in the review, is to remove one section of the arm of the base (making it shorter) then that will hold the Gundam up just barely above the ground. works and is very solid. but if you wanted a higher or more dynamic pose then maybe get an action base.

It's Version Ka not ver Ka... special edition's of all mobile suit design or supervised by Hajime Katoki... that's where the Ka, just filling in so that ppl new to this hobby won't look like a fool ...besides that great video

As a kit overall, which of the two do you prefer, this or the full armour unicorn?
I prefer the FA Unicorn, but that's just personal aesthetic choice.
Is the action base includes with the kit?
I gotta ask Zaku, do you know of anywhere that I can get a shoulder peg from? I think the part itself is B 43. When I bought my kit it was missing a shoulder peg, so now my Thunderbolt is down an arm lol.

About the base though, wasn't there a single arm piece unused in one of the runners? Or is that incompatible?
yeah that's not compatible. But what you CAN do it use only one of the extension parts on the base, to make the base shorter and more stable.

Ver. Ka stands for Version Katoki (in other words a shit ton of decals)
It's short for Version Katoki, with Katoki being the name of the person who redesigned older MG kits.

Great review! Little question: when painting, do you think the extra armour will scratch up the normal armour, thus removing the extra armour is rendered useless....?

And yes, I'm on the fence, love the anime, the suits not so much, but that's beside the point..
I'd just spray on a couple layers of clear coat so that the extra armor doesn't scratch any paint
Tim, yeah I'm sure you'll have to be super careful about scratching. Best bet is to just pick how you wanna display it and only paint what'll show

AnyOtherName LikeMashugana And you can also lose a finger. Like what happened to my RX-93 gundam.... I recommend you to not get any ver.KA kits unless you built more than 10 Master grade kits. Because ver.KA always looks so cool, but always have been a pain to handle. My RX-93 looks so awesome, but the hand is so horrible. There is a part about the size of a grain of rice holding the hand which is holding the gun. Which is fucking shit, I fucking hate Katoki Hajime for designing the hand so badly and giving the kit a shit ton of weapons.
