This came out about 53 years or so ago when I was in my 20s. It was a huge hit. Give EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY a listen or REASON TO BELIEVE. Both are great songs. Thank you for all the hard work and great music and commentary you bring with every video. You are one of the very best.
Same age, same love for that album and completely agree with the song "Every Picture Tells A Story". Also agree with the thank you. Love this channel! Cheers from Canada
Ah, Rod Stewart. Because of him, so many of us male children of the 70s went through our junior high years hoping to meet our own Maggie May, an older gal to take us in and teach us. 😇 I really like much of Rod Stewarts early music. When this was released as a "single" this was the A side, the B side was a song called Reason To Believe, which is my personal favorite song by Mr. Stewart.
You need to hear Rod rocking out. I recommend "(I Know) I'm Losing You", which is an old Motown song but one that Rod (with the help of his buddies in the band Faces that he was in at that same time), really rocks on. I think you'll like it, and Faces was a top-notch band. On "Maggie May", one of the guys in Faces played most of the instruments...bass, multiple guitars, the intro...the guy is Ron Wood. He has spent about the last 50 years as a guitarist with the Rolling Stones. Very talented musician. Rock on!
Other tracks that merit a listen are You wear it well, You’re in my heart, also Stay with me, which he did while in Faces. I prefer earlier Rod, he later delved into disco with much success but it’s not nearly as good imho
One of my favorite memories of growing up in the '70s was K-Tel's compilation albums that you could buy at the neighborhood record shop: "20 Hits for One Low Price!" You got The Beatles, Melanie, Donny Osmond, The Turtles, Donovan, and Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" all on one record! I can't think of a better music education for an 8-year-old than that. ⏺
Such a rich intimate song,They shared the things that made us feel back then..... I was dating a Maggie as a senior in High School when this came out Very Nostalgic but we stayed cool
Even though you weren't "listening" to it, your friend's Dad exposed you to great music. That's the important thing. We don't listen when we're young, but as we become adults the music we "heard" is still there in our heads and allows us to appreciate and be open to music because of the associations that are there. Your friend's Dad may be why you seem to understand the music you're hearing now, even more than other reactors. It's a gift that keeps on giving. I'm still understanding and appreciating the composition of the songs I heard as a kid in the early 70s, just as I now enjoy the Opera music I was exposed to while watching Bugs Bunny cartoons, and that just adds more color to the sepia toned images of my youth.
❤❤❤Love Rod Stewart! Try "Forever Young", it's a beautiful song between parents and their kids. Also "People Get Ready" with Jeff Beck and "All For Love" with Bryan Adams and Sting. So many others as well.
Another one of those 'anthemic' songs that came out seemingly every week when I was 17. And the man is a proud Scot, a country which everybody should visit.
Though this song has been massively over-played on the radio--both when it first came out, as well as on current classic rock stations--I can honestly say that it's the one over-played song that I NEVER get tired of. Rod's pained, authentic, raspy vocals, his rather poetic, though sad, lyrics ("the morning sun when it's in your face really shows your age"), and that frickin' wonderful mandolin, lol, deservedly give this tune it's claim to fame as one of the greatest rock songs ever. Some of Rod's early musical influences come from English/Scottish folk music, and you can hear it in the addition of the mandolin, and in the beautiful, Medieval/madrigal opening sequence, which usually isn't played on the radio. Please keep doin' what you're doin'. It's great to watch your musical journey as you uncover these wonderful songs. You said you lament the fact that you didn't notice or appreciate a lot of this music when you were younger, but you've been given a second chance, and you're taking full advantage of it and doing great. Sometimes timing really is everything. :)
Loved your reaction to this! You know when this came out when I was young I loved it but hearing it again after so long it’s even better! It’s funny how we realize later just how great the music of our youth really was.
His songs with the faces, and early solo stuff brilliant, a story in every song. Maggie may huge hit single in UK. You wear it well a favorite of mine. Stay with me by the faces a belter and pool hall Richard really rips it up!
I had the pleasure of meeting Rod's lead guitarist at the Roxy on Sunset back in 1988... when I worked at a popular restaurant called "The Moustache Cafe. We got to sharing pics of our very young sons!! ❤️. Happy Memory 😁 Forever Young is another great tune by them.🔥
Autumn 1971 I was just starting my last year at school. Many happy memories, and this being no. 1 in the charts is one of them. It's a happy devil may care song. Love the strings on it, particularly the mandolin at the end. That was played by Ray Jackson of the band Lindisfarne. He more or less improvised it when asked. The mandolin was one of the sounds Lindisfarne used quite a bit.. You could do worse than check them out. First big hit was Meet me on the corner, another was Lady Eleanor. Think that one made no 1 too. It got pretty high in the charts. Great song. Love it !
From the great days when Rod fronted the Faces & made great music, the acoustic intro you played was actually listed as a separate track called Henry & Maggie May was the B side of the single Reason To Believe, from a great album called Every Picture Tells A Story, great days to be growing up!
another timeless hit from the Rod...easy to see why the ladies swooned over him....he got more commercial when the disco era hit....knew you would dig this (hopefully this will redeem me for the Sigur Ros misstep 😁)....thanks for another great reaction and I totally agree, sex workers should have legal rights and protection...peace
"My song" in high school; love the mandolin. Way back, Rod was singing on Jeff Beck's "Truth" album; also with the Faces on their album "First Step." Nobody ever does reactions to those. His older stuff is far better, imo. I saw him live in 1970 or '71 in S.F. with the Faces.
Give "You Wear it Well" a react. Also, the song "Ooh la la" from when he was with Faces. Ron Wood does the vocals on ooh la la but the imperfections of Woods' voice give so much life to the song.
In my top 3 Rod Stewart songs. True story aspect reminds me of a Maggie I worked with who I was almost seduced by and found out a co-worker had. Older good looker on the hunt for young guys
Met my husband 52 years ago this October weekend. This song was playing the night we met. Happy memories.

Maggie May is about a May-December relationship as it is called. She being the older woman who has stole the heart of a younger man.

Always loved this song - especially the mandolin break. Saw him do this do this twice, 25 years apart.
Love the intro, not too many reactors do this version
Love early Rod Stewart ~
My friends ND I almost wore this album out the first day it came out, and one of us bought it. Quite the listening party.

Yes, he made that song his own!! Airplay Beats reacted to this song today. Worth watching. The drums are amazing in it!
Back in our day we didn’t analyze everything so much we experimented and moved on . Just a life lesson ☮️
Loved this song from when it first came out. My favorite from Rod Stewart.
Other tracks that merit a listen are You wear it well, You’re in my heart, also Stay with me, which he did while in Faces. I prefer earlier Rod, he later delved into disco with much success but it’s not nearly as good imho

This song put him on the charts.
"Every Picture tells a Story" and "Scared and Scared" are amongst imo Rod Stewarts Best of Many Great Songs
Rod had the good sense to convince his Faces buddies to come along with him for this spirited (literally) outing.
Such a rich intimate song,They shared the things that made us feel back then..... I was dating a Maggie as a senior in High School when this came out Very Nostalgic but we stayed cool

Always loved the mandolin in this. :)
Every Picture Tells A Story (Don't It)... is a great song by Rod Stewart
Love some Sir Rod my two favourites of his are Sailing and his cover of Cat Stevens The First Cut Is The Deepest.

Can never get enough of ole Maggie!
Another great singer , Rod Stewart's voice was just one of a kind for sure. "For ever young" is such a great one if you get the chance .

Great song 🔥🔥🔥✌️
Rod was the man back in the day, I'm with clifton with your next reaction, dude, good analysis man.
Probably his biggest hit. Listened to this sitting on the floor of Mike Eubanks' bedroom floor and playing pool in his dad's basement. Love it.
Rod is a great singer/song writer. Tons of hits.
I had the pleasure of meeting Rod's lead guitarist at the Roxy on Sunset back in 1988... when I worked at a popular restaurant called "The Moustache Cafe. We got to sharing pics of our very young sons!! ❤️. Happy Memory 😁

This is one of the songs that was imprinted in my young mind when I was around 8 years old.

And what a wonderful reflection of someone so important to you in your life.💜

A big hit for him.The radio version didn't have the mandolin at the start."You Wear It Well" from this era was good too.
Love rod Stewart and the faces saw them about 8 times
Mandolin in a rock song...loved the 70s!
♥
Awesome bass
The great and sadly late Ronnie Lane.
Nice reaction! Check out "Hot Legs". A more Rocking side of Rod.
🌿♥️🇳🇿
I met mine in 71 i was 18 she was 28
This is his point of view. He fell in love with an older woman and she just wasn't in to it.
There has been a lot of covers of this song by other people.
In my top 3 Rod Stewart songs. True story aspect reminds me of a Maggie I worked with who I was almost seduced by and found out a co-worker had. Older good looker on the hunt for young guys
Maggie was a cougar looking for a young boy toy.
