  • My Mini Cooper S R53 engine has been out for far too long. Today is the day it's going back in the car - if it's the last thing I do!
As ever I use a lot of Mod MINI's videos to help me get these jobs done. Check out his channel here:

Entertaining videos, thanks. Still smiling about the cake box.Admire your integrity and honesty. And you seem like a nice chap, still smiling in the rain. Keep up the good work. And you definitely did the right thing renewing the flywheel :-)

That's a hole lot you've done for a first time. People won't understand until they do it on their own in the outdoors without a lift or any experience. Loving you first serie, binging em all.

Another great job your doing ... I used to rebuild engines all the time as a living, and that's the only thing you haven't done, not having a pop or anything because your doing a great job with all the other bits your doing .... Bet this is costing you a small fortune!

Cheers bud. I'm very much hoping to have a crack at rebuilding some engines in the future, but I need a half decent garage/shed/workshop before I start getting into that. Yeah, it's cost a few quid haha. However, just over half the cost has been on tools and equipment rather than parts and that's more of an investment into the future than money I'm tying directly to this car

@@NotEconomicallyViable Engine rebuilds are pretty easy, only difficult part is the skimming of the head (if it's warpped) as this has to be done in a garage. Removing pistons, con rods, valves etc is all straight forward, even putting in new rings on the pistons is easy, think the only tricky part is the collets on top of the valves. From what I've seen you doing with this mini, you can easily rebiuld engines mate ... I used to paint everything up before I put it back, looked great, customers loved it ;-) ... Not sure where abouts you are in the UK but I'm in Essex, if you need any spraying done, like chrome etc, give me a shout, I have examples on my youtube page.

Agree, why don't clutches come as a complete kit? American clutches come with a splined centering tool. In UK......

i'm sure there are more screws and nuts which should be replaced and not reused (engine / gearbox mount, suspension?). on a R56 the gearbox mount nut should be replaced. i didn't 👀👀

Someone online produced a sheet of the bolts that need replacing that they got from the Bentley manual, and I've been following that. So I hope I've managed to catch them all. I've got a new engine mount bolt that I haven't put it yet because there's a small part of me that's ready to pull the motor back out again lol. So gonna get the engine started and then if there's no issues, fit these new bolts

Believe it or not there are 3 different sizes of pressure plate bolts for different models. On my R50 it has 7mm bolts

    • @NotEconomicallyViable
