- Welcome back to my workshop 😁.
Sorry, not making anything today.
Just a quick review and unboxing of the #Aldi #FERREX 18V nail gun i purchased about 6 months ago.
Its not an in depth review, more of a first look and my opinion of how fantastic it is.
Thanks for watching 😁👍.

A few things from my experience from using this nail gun. Jams a lot with shorter nails, as the little decal on the side of the cartrage shows 20mm nail should be the minimum used for reliability, shorter just jams up. Frank shows the front and notes the two hex bolts to remove to take the front off. It's not so simple from my experience. 1st remove the 2 recessed at the top of the plastic cover then pop off the blanks above the 2 hex nuts he shows. Behind the blanks are 2 more hex bolts. Remove these. The plastic front then pops off. Be careful as there is a spring behind which is used by the safety switch that you depress while facing onto the surface you are nailing. You will now see the two originally mentioned and shown in the video hex bolts they are clear of their plastic hole and just stick out of a blank plate . I needed mole grips to take these of they were so tight but once off the plate will be removable that covers the nail tunnel. Your stuck nail or staple will be mangled in here behind this plate and will be easy to remove. Once removed place the plate back on using the 2 hex bolts but make sure to line them up with the side and bottom before tightening down as the plate moves a bit and I think misalignment can cause more jams. Put the plastic cover back on, place the plastic caps back over the bolt heads as before.and you are away. The size larger hex bolts are at the top and all the 4 below are the same size.
😃 Thanks so much for taking the time to add your comment Corialtavi. I'm sure it will be of great value for my viewers if they have the same issues. It seems like there have been some changes in the quality of this gun. It sounds like the later versions suffer more with jams. I don't know if its the brads I use but I have had hardly any jams and I have used it a hell of a lot. Thanks again for your comments, I will pin this to the top to help others. Thanks for watching 😃👍
Just purchased one yesterday really impressed and a added bonus my guild and wicks batteries fit perfectly thanks for the content
😁 thanks David. Excellent info about the batteries. Thanks for watching 😁👍
thanks for the review, for us normal people! I just bought mine after watching. great work Frank
😁 Thanks Hank. I have no idea what "normal" is anymore, but I try my best. You won't be dissapointed with the tool, its a great bit of kit. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Awesome review.
Thanks for sharing.
All the best,
Steve.
👍👍
😁 Thanks Steve, this is basically the same as the current unit that is available from Aldi. But the new unit is a nice grey colour. Thanks for watching 😁👍
THANKS FRANK GREAT INFO SIR funny only saw them on offer yesterday an interest has stirred
😁 I think they are now a posh grey colour. They were selling out fast in my local Aldi's. I still love mine . Thanks for watching 😁👍
150 ok’s drive me round the twist.
Great review Frank and thanks for the mention. I agree with you in regards to weight as it is a little on the heavy side, but that’s the price you pay for not having to lug a compressor around everywhere! The only major disappointment I had with it is I had to return the first one I bought as it kept jamming. Aldi were great though, plus I only had to return the body of it so when they replaced it with a whole new unit I ended up with a spare battery and charger👍😀
Thanks Leo 😁 your more than welcome to the shout out. It's almost impossible for me to get my compressor out to the garden (its a 100Ltr Wolf... and a bit big) so this new one will be ideal for an upcoming garden project. Nice result with the battery. Thanks for watching Leo 😁👍
Think I've got same problem Leo, mines looks like its been dropped(small bash on case) got it today but jammed on second fire now saying jammed but I can't see anything in it. Going back not happy.
Great video and a great review- looking forward to seeing your channel grow!
😁 Thanks for the support. Hopefully it will grow, only time will tell 😀. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Good review Frank - you nailed it! I have that very tool and happy with it.👍
Thanks Norman 😁. I think it's going to be a great addition to my little workshop 😁. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Frank. Thanks for the review (and no music overlaid.. LOL) Most of the jobs the DIYer does is around the home (myself included) I found myself and quite a few friends already had a compressor (Aldi bargain £70) for fence paint spraying.. I wanted a nailer for my fencing and quick assembly jobs too... It wasn't till I watched a few YT videos that the cheapness of a pneumatic nailer/stapler was made clear as an option.. I forgot my compressor! Yes you do need a compressor as you rightly stated but my 50mm nailer/stapler was only £32 and fires 50mm brads through hard woods like butter. (so around £100 for nailer and compressor) you don't even need a high volume compressor for the little amount of air per nail. The mains corded DIY nailers are not powerful beyond really soft thin wood or fabric stapling. Off site is as you state.. another matter completely. For home use with a 15m extension hose I can't get that power with battery operated, cheap enough to justify. Thanks for posting your realistic review.
😁 Hi Alan. Thanks for taking the time to comment 😁. The world of nailers and staplers is a vast place. Everybody needs different things from a nailer and there isn't really "one tool fits all", you can't use a huge frame nailer for tacking cloth to a chair, and you can't use a small stapler for holding roof joists together. So we all end up buying multiple different tools. This one dose a lot of what I need for the workshop jobs and it is really reliable. But I'm sure there is a lot it can't do. Overall I am still impressed with it and still think it is worth the money. Thanks again Alan for watching, stay safe 😁👍
@Alan Brown 🤣 Sorry if my reply come over a bit "short" 🤣. I typed it a bit quick as I'm supposed to be working 🤣😂 and didn't check it before I sent it 🤔. I'm a big fan of some budget tools and as you say I can't justify spending a fortune on brands. We work with what we can afford 😁. Take care mate 😁👍
Good review interesting about 18v batteries. I have a workzone drill 18v and 2 batteries but lost the charger. Need to look out ferrex as was unaware workzone changed its name.
I've got 2 nailers, an 18G and 16G, both have proven to be invaluable. I have an air powered nailer from Aldi, but that doesn't get used any more. I've had mixed results with workzone stuff, but the ferrex stuff has proved to be much better, I know this is the same as the workzone one, but hopefully this is one of the better workzone tools they made
Thanks James 😁. I haven't got much Ferrex stuff... but I do have lots of Workzone stuff. And all of mine have been great. I hope this nailer is as good as I think it is 🤔. Thanks for watching James 😁👍
@@frankslittleworkshop it's an old ryobi design and not to bad great video 👍 keep them coming.
@@mattlawton4715 thanks Matt. I'm still loving it. It hasn't let me down yet. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Frank... great review and you got yourself a bargain there... I have Dewalt 1st and 2nd fix nailers... really handy tools... take care...All the best.....Andy
Thanks Andy 😁. I think this will be great on its own but also compliment my air and electric nailers. Thanks for watching Andy 😁👍
Good review Frank, my lunch viewing was interrupted yesterday by Netflix, lol. Btw, my nailer still works great, no jamming. Sometimes, based on the angle of the tip on the worksurface, it may not go in fully. Still a great addition to the tool arsenal 😁👍 and good buy for the price. And thanks for the mention as well 😀
Your more than welcome to the shout out Suj. I can't believe you chose Netflix over my fantastic video 😂🤣😂. Glad to see your nailer is still going strong. Thanks for watching Suj 😁👍
Great vid Francis,
😁 Thanks mate, glad you liked it. "Brace yourself", there will be more soon hopefully 🤣😂😁👍
I think he is brilliant
Great review frank I have a 18g dewalt air nailer works great but wish I had brought the battery one it is the one I use the most and is a pain having to charge the compressor when you only want to shoot a few nails.
Just watching this because it came back in stock at Aldi and I'm waiting for my delivery. Looks like a good tool, much better than my titan electric nailer which can't seem to sink even 20mm nails flush with the surface.
😁I think the current version is a funky grey colour, but the basic machine is the same. You won't be dissapointed. My one is still working a treat. Thanks for watching 😁👍
LOL Thats a carbon copy my titan wouldnt even sink into some skirting I was putting on ...Mine on order too
Very good review you explain everything here in Australia we get the workzone stuff in aldi in have an assortment of their tools may have to get one when i see it on sale 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Thanks Trevor 😁. Yes I think I have seen some of the red brand of Workzone tools used down under. I think the nailer is almost the same but uses 20V, but I think the basic design is very simular. Thanks for watching 😁👍🇬🇧
Nice review Frank 👍
I had the opportunity to buy one when the wife and I saw them in Aldi and she said 'if you need one get it'. I thought do I really need one and talked myself out of it. I'm sure there will be a time/job when I wish I'd picked one up.
I talked myself out of it a couple of times but then finally caved in and got one by chance. Now I'm glad I did. My air nailer is OK but working outside away from the compressor is a bit of a pain. Thanks for watching David 😁👍
If the Mrs offers you that you take it 😂 weather you need it or not
Ive been wanting an 18v nailer for ages now. I use a bostitch air nailer which is fantastic but having to fill the compressor & drag the air hose around gets on my nerves. It seems to fire quite gently too. I also have a tacwise electric nailer & that things brutal.
Great review
Thanks Dave 😁. My first air one was great but trying to use it for nailing shingles on my gazebo roof was a pain.. the airline nearly dreaded me off the roof 😂🤣. This FERREX one looks like it's going to be great. Thanks for watching Dave 😁👍
Your treating yourself to lots of new toys lately 😊 definitely looks a bargain. And another bonus no compressor coming on halfway through your sentence 😂
😂🤣 bloody compressor, always interrupts 😂🤣. I got this about 6 months ago but just havent had time to open the box. But now I have... I just want to nail everything 😂. Thanks for watching Karl. 😁👍
@@frankslittleworkshop haha don't let your Mrs hear you say that 😂🤣
@@karlpopewoodcraft 😂🤣😂👍
"Okay"
😂👍
Great stuff again Frank. What is the size range of staples and brads that it will accept? You are of course allowed to consult the infamous book of words and I won’t hold it against you 😇
Wow.. you just made me read through the book of words.... twice 😟. There is no mention of minimum size. I just measured the magazine and there is a ridge for the brad nails at 15mm so I guess that is the minimum size but I have no idea with the staples.. sorry. I will need to get some and try. Thanks for watching Neil 😁👍
Love Ur videos,subscribed,cheers👍
😁 Thanks Michael. Much appreciated 😁. Hopefully more coming soon. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Do you think this would be capable of fitting skirting to light weight block work? Thanks
Many thanks.
😁 Your very welcome 😁👍
I own a smaller slightly dated Ryobi unit (ony up to 25mm nails & staples. But better 5Ah batteries are available.
😁 Thanks Plunder1956. Lucky for me I have a couple of batteries for this unit so I can charge and swap out when needed (but a 5Ah would be great). Thanks for watching 😁 👍
Wish they had put qwick release to unblock it be less of a pain then but did my fence very well
😁 I must have been lucky so far, I haven't had any blockages yet. But a quick release would be a nice option. Thanks for watching 😁👍
NOOICE!
😁 Thanks Garviel. It's a great bit of kit and is now my first choice of nailer if I need to get a job done 😁. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Just got from monster 95 quid with 2 batt bang on
😁 You will love it. Mine is still going strong and has never let me down 😁. Thanks for watching Gary 😁👍
Can anyone tell me where I can get a new driver blade for this an mine broke, thanks
Great review frank great review mate.... this is something I really need to get either a battery or air nailer what do you reckon frank.... we're do you get a suit of armour mate ill get that as well cracking outtake with the compressor lolol
Thanks mate 😁. I think they are all different animals. There are benefits to the air, the electric and the cordless but there are also disadvantages to each. I guess it depends what you want to do. I've now got one if each so I'm covered. But I think this cordless one will get the most use. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Just to clarify, as it comes with 50mm brads, is it restricted to 50mm, or can it take any size of Brad. Thanks
😁 Hi, just to be clear, the maximum size of brad nails that this will fire is 50mm. The minimum recommended size is 20mm but I have fired 15mm with no problems. I hope that info helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Its that ok to use for beading? As i used titan before but i want some cordless
It uses 18g brad nails, so it should be ok but it obviously depends on the size of the beading. Probably not suitable for very thin beading as it may split it 🤔
@@frankslittleworkshop i use 18g 25mm nails for beading with titan and all good the beading its not soo thin its normal for laminate flooring
@@staniley884 in that case this should be fine 😁👍
@@frankslittleworkshop thanks
what about clearing blockages out?
is it easy or do we have to unscrew the front plate
😁 To tell the truth, I've had it for about 6 months now and have never had a blockage yet. But, I think you do need to do a bit of quick disassembly, but nothing over complicated. Hope that helps. Thanks David 😁👍
I really enjoyed this video Frank, okay, it covered everything okay. I'll surely subscribe okay but there is one teensy weensy thing okay which you could try and avoid, okay?
😂🤣 Sorry... okay 🤣😂. Thanks for watching.... okay 😁👍
Great review, just waiting for Aldi to stock the Nail Gun in the special buys, just wanted to ask can you use any standard 50mm nails or does it only take Ferrex nails?. Thanks
😁 Hi. Hopefully they will have them again soon, but they do sell out very quickly. You can use standard 18g brad nails. You don't need to buy a specific Ferrex type. Thanks for watching 😁👍
@@frankslittleworkshop Thank you my friend, good to know, I will keep eye out for when they sell them again at Aldi.
Nice review Frank, just ordered one online from Aldi, having trouble trying to find an extra battery, but cannot find one, any ideas were I may be able to order one.
😁 Hi Russell. I have never ordered extra batterys as I use the old Workzone ones from my old tools. I assume you can order spares directly from Aldi. Otherwise your best bet is probably ebay. I'm sure I have seen somewhere that "Bauker" batterys are compatible (worth looking in to). Failing that there are some 3D printed adaptors available so you can use other battery brands. Sorry i can't be more help. Thanks for watching Russell 😁👍.
@@frankslittleworkshop Decided to order the cordless Ferrex circular saw, had a couple of good reviews, £49.95 again from Aldi, you get the saw plus another charger and a 2.0ah battery. tried the battery in the nail gun and it works fine, I thought it was a good deal when you could spend between £25-35 on a spare battery alone.
@@RTSFoto 😁Happy days. Sounds like a win win situation 😃. And you get new tools to play with. 😁👍
Mine constantly has the green light on saying cartridge empty, even though there are nails in. Can’t get anywhere with Ferrex customer service whose telephone number just rings dead. Aldi say I need receipt before bringing it back for refund which I’ve lost. Don’t want a refund I want it working. Anyone got any ideas?
😁 Hi Paul. I will have a look at mine to see what triggers the cartridge empty led. But a question from me " is your one an older blue one or the later grey one?" I ask as it seems the quality of the newer grey ones seems to be worse (I.e. lots of new problems... jamming etc). I will reply to this thread if I find a possible solution to your led problem. Thanks for watching Paul 😁👍
@@frankslittleworkshop Hi Frank, no mine is exactly the same as yours in your video. Its less than a year old and only been used 3 or 4 times.
Hi frank how do I fix a nail jam
😁 Hi John. To tell the truth I still haven't had any jams (even using cheap brads). If I get a chance I'll do a quick video on how to clear a jam. Thanks for watching John 😁👍
How. To order that one sir .do you have an link?
🤔 I've just checked on the Aldi website and it looks like these are currently unavailable from Aldi. You may find a used one on ebay. But I think it may be a case of waiting until these are back on sale on Aldi special buys. Alternatively you could opt for one of the other brands I mention in the video. Thanks Jacklord, I hope that helps 😁👍
Safety glasses
Could dewalt 18v battery fit to this gun?
😁Hi Kahaled, I don't have an 18V Dewalt battery to try. But I suspect it will not fit as a direct replacment. It may be possible to modify them to fit but I wouldn't recommend it. Thanks for watching 😁👍

How much is this
😁 Hi, when I got mine it was about £70, but the current version is about £85. Thanks 😁👍
Av just found out these take "18v Bauker batteries & charger" toolstation sell them.. Just a bit of useless information incase you need a spare battery or charger anytime.. 🤣👍🏻

Ok ?
Easy made in China
Hi Frank just a new subscriber am thinking of buying this nail gun but can you tell me what size staples and nails I have to buy for it thanks
😁 Hi Paul. From what I can remember I quickly go over this in the video (ill have to check as I made it ages ago 😆), but basically what you need are 18 gage brads (18g) at what ever length you need that fit (also covered in the video). That should get you started. Ill re watch it as soon as I can just to make sure I covered this info 😁. Thanks for watching 😁👍
@@frankslittleworkshop thanks Frank 😊
Can you put say a bag of single nails in or do you need sets.
😁Hi Supreme Commander, I'm afraid you need to use the correct brad nails. If you try single nails it will just jam. But the brad nails are quite cheap and very available. Thanks for watching 😁👍
