Well, it seems like we all have the same problem with our Ford trucks. Mine is a 2012 F-150 5.0 214000 miles. I replaced mine with a Motocraft sending unit. It worked for about a week then started again. I read the comments and so many different fixes. One guy says he started buying gas at a different gas station and it fixed his. I think I am going to change the air pressure in my tires and see if that helps. I am just kidding but one guy said he cleaned his throttle body and that worked. I might try that and see if that helps. It might increase your rpms at idle, but mine does it even when my rpms are up. Who knows?

Sometimes you just have to add oil this happened to me a year ago and i just change the oil and it fix it, and now its doing the same thing again i check the oil and it was fine next day did the same thing hopefully this video will solve the problem.!! Thanks bro
Same problem on my 3.5l non turbo. First time it was like -10F and the low oil pressure warning went off about an hour from home. Scared the crap out of me. Pulled the truck over and listened to the motor, was quiet with no ticking like it was low on oil. Checked the oil level was fine so I drove it. Has gone off intermittently since but now is almost continuous. So i have to deal with it now. Also my hood latch is giving false alarms. Can't use the alarm system and it goes off constantly. Only thing I like about this 2017 F150 is the aluminum body. Stuff like this really sours me on Fords. Don't think I'll buy another Ford. Buffalo Rusty Salt belt is really hard on vehicles.
I’m having the same issue, I replaced the oil pressure sensor with a cheaper aftermarket, watched your video and replaced it again with the motocraft one, still having the same issue. I think my next step is taking it to the shop.
I have a 2019 f150 diesel and had a turbo oil leak diagnosed on a change of oil. Low oil pressure warning happened next day. I brought back truck for turbo repair and they could not fix warning. I bet oil from changing it or turbo leak messed up sensor. Headed out to buy sensor cleaner. Hope that works. Dealership was going to open engine up to get to oil pump on Monday.
I have this issue with mine and we changed the unit but I'm sure my husband used Duralast since he has a commercial account at AZ I'm sending him this video! I hope he does it and it stops! That digging drives me crazy!
@@JoelG7.3 it definitely is! Not to mention it scares me. I'm always afraid I'm gonna blow it up. I mean my husband would be ecstatic about it but I'd seriously cry. 🤣
Mine did this when I was driving, like 60 mph down the road. It dings low oil pressure, then the wrench flashes on the screen and it loses power. The ford dealership said, well, sometimes we just can’t figure out what’s wrong with a truck 🤦🏻♀️
One important fact you left out was what the oil pressure gauge on the dashbooard showed - low, no, high, normal, etc. It looked normal from a distance, but if it was low or no then you might suspect a bad oil pump or clog somewhere.

started happening to me too, but only happens in the morning, when its cold, about 40F, so i thought it also has something to do with teh cold. that could speak of the contact, but i also banged on my instrument panel, thinking it was a cold solder joint, and was able to get it to move half way down, (and back) twice, without the warning light, so i thought for sure that meant it was the instrument cluster, which isnt cheap. how did you fix it?
@@bt8406 I haven’t yet haha. My wife’s 2011 explorer started doing it and I changed the oil pressure sensor and it’s gone. Was acting same as mine. Mine just comes once and a great while. I have the part, just haven’t changed yet. Haven’t had it in months
I had the same issue for months. Tried this and it didn't help. I also noticed that it seemed to be idling at lower RPMs, so I decided to look at the throttle body. It was horrible. Removed it and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner, reinstalled it, and never had an issue again. Now it idles at around 650rpm where it was idling around 500rpm before cleaning. The oil pump connects to the timing chain, so the lower the rpms, the slower it turns and the less oil it pumps. Maybe it was just idling too low to keep the oil pressure up because of the dirty throttle body.
My 2012 5.0 just stalled out twice this past weekend. Except it happened when I was going up a slight incline and the truck was articulating slightly and I had to put it in park and restart it. I literally had my oil changed last Wednesday at the dealer. Took it back had it all day today. Could not find an issue. Going to check that plug and possibly replace it just in to be on the safe side. Thank you for the info.
I know this video's 2 years old. My pops own a 2013 Ford F-150 with the 6.2L. Recently the low oil pressure warning light came on. That's essentially the same issue with the 6.2L right? I just have to change out the oil pressure switch? I've checked all the basic stuff like oil leaks, checking for any engine knocking noise yet I found nothing. The truck recently had an oil change, so the oil is full. This morning the low-pressure light warning came on again while driving along I-15 going to Las Vegas. I've looked around the internet and so far, this is the closest oil pressure related video I can find for a 2013 Ford F-150 6.2L V8.
@@JoelG7.3 Figured it out. and correction on my dad's F-150 engine, it's got the 5.0L not the 6.2L, I was reading the wrong sticker under the hood that tells you the engine class. Thanks for the video brotha, this shit had me perplexed for weeks now. I never thought to clean out the connection and I will definitely be trying that. I should of know to search UA-cam first before changing random parts.

This will sound crazy, so is the reason I am asking. 2019 F-150 4x4 V8, and a mechanic has said "these newer Ford's don't have an oil pressure warning light", when we found we have an issue and asked why we didn't get a warning regarding low oil. Is this possible??? Do the newer F-150's not come with oil pressure warning lights?
Joel G; Thanks for the video, it suddenly helped me a lot. So as not to bore all of you with the same story, my 2012 F150 3.5 Ecoboost truck was doing the same thing everyone mentions here. I'm running down the freeway and the LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT comes on. I went and bought the new Motorcraft oil sensor and installed it, I was driving around town and everything seemed to be ok until I jump on the freeway again and the warning light came on again. Now I wonder what to do. ?? Anyone Please Help.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just replaced this part yesterday, and still getting the low oil pressure reading at idle. I'm guessing I didn't clean the harness well enough. Going back in with q tips to clean it better. What a pain in the ass these are on 4x4.
This just happened to me today and gonna try and clean it tomorrow. Engine runs great with high miles and no noises. Light pops on and sensor drops but as soon as I tap the gas the sensor goes back up and it goes away
My 2014 F150 V8 does this same thing when the oil level gets a little low, I just added about 1 quart and it goes away. If it didn’t leak oil it would never happen.
I had the same thing on my 2012 f 150 I had a oil leak a the sending unit that I replaced with unit from oriels then started having oil light come on at stop signs for my truck I changed to 5/30 oil and got another sending unit from ford the hole on bottom of of ford unit was half the size of the one from parts store that stoped the oil pressure from dropping at stops
I changed my oil pressure censor but it's doing it now more than ever and that's while driving it. I just stop and shut it off, restart and it clears it. I will try cleaning the through body now.
I have a 14 F150 5.0 with 200+ miles.. and the oil pressure sensor comes on at idle. Basically, had the same symptoms. The warning came ON when on idle but if I shifted it to Park it would go away. Anyways, went down there and it was leaking so I decided to replace it with an OE part. Unfortunately, the same warning came ON more frequently. I don't know what the hell is going on! I made sure the connector was cleaned. I sprayed electronic cleaner and I even blew the connector with compressed air. Currently it's not leaking but the warning is most consistent and I don't know what it could be. If someone has any ideas that would be highly appreciated.
@@purgatory671 yeah man. So the update is that I changed the oil pan gasket. It’s reusable but mine was gone so I went to buy a new one. Put it on, torqued it down to specs, changed the oil pressure sensor and although the low pressure message came ON for like two days, after that it never came back ON. Idk if changing the oil pan gasket also helped or the computer just needed time to adjust for the new oil pressure sensor. But I haven’t seen the message ever since all that. Good luck my friend.
Your sensor looked fine but apparently it doesn't matter. Lots of issues with 12 5.0 sensors going bad, usually lots of oil and gunk on sensor and wire harness. Gotta change mine in a few days, doing the whole rough idle low oil then shut off deal.
what was the name of the part you added to it.? our truck oil light just came on.. and also the engine overtemp..🤦♀️ any idea if the engine light has to do with the oil light..?
Well I'll do this before I change the sensor and see how that goes. Mine started right after an oil change and since I wouldn't let him change my air filter he had an attitude. That makes me think he may have splashed some oil while changing the oil filter or something.

Well my truck just started doing this today while I’m out of state lol. Gonna try this and hope it helps. Thx for the vid . It’s a god send 👍🏽
No problem , yes I also wish I had this video a year ago
Dang sounds like a collection on issues
I’m having the same issue, I replaced the oil pressure sensor with a cheaper aftermarket, watched your video and replaced it again with the motocraft one, still having the same issue. I think my next step is taking it to the shop.
I had a high oil pressure Ford f150 2018 2019
Thank you for this. I hope with the info you shared and the stuff from other similiar videos, I will stop this damned dinging.
Hopefully it does. it is very annoying.
Hopefully it helps. We had this dinging for like 2 years it was so annoying.
@@JoelG7.3 it definitely is! Not to mention it scares me. I'm always afraid I'm gonna blow it up. I mean my husband would be ecstatic about it but I'd seriously cry. 🤣
It didn't work 😭
@@littlered1013 sorry to hear
I will figure it out one way or another.
Mine did this when I was driving, like 60 mph down the road. It dings low oil pressure, then the wrench flashes on the screen and it loses power. The ford dealership said, well, sometimes we just can’t figure out what’s wrong with a truck 🤦🏻♀️
That was nice of them 😂 This truck never lost power it just would ding.
Same issue here, completely out of nowhere, the light comes on...I will clean the contact and see what happens.
One important fact you left out was what the oil pressure gauge on the dashbooard showed - low, no, high, normal, etc. It looked normal from a distance, but if it was low or no then you might suspect a bad oil pump or clog somewhere.
It clearly shows in the video the gauge drops flat to nothing when warning pops up then it goes back up to normal half way when the warning stops

thanks just saw this have same truck will try
Figured this is what’s going on with mine. I’ve got a leak right there oils all over the plug. It hasn’t done it recently but I’m willing to bet this is the issue
Yep, Sounds like it is.
👏👏👏 I’ve been dealing with this close to two years... and you just fixed it! Can’t thank you enough! 👍👍
Has it done it since you did it?
@@josh13369 hasn’t happened again since 👍
Is it still not doing it?
so you were running the truck with the oil dropping for a full 2 years and never had issues....>?
@@Noob_Crew_Sledders the oil pressure isn't actually dropping, just resistance in the wire from the oil.
12/23/21: Merry Christmas from Orlando!🎄 Thanks a ton for posting this! Low oil pressure warning started this morning. Based on your video I went straight to the connector and cleaned it and the sensor…problem solved!
Total cost: $0.00
(I liked and subscribed, thanks again.)
Awesome!
still working?
Happens only in winter tome for me. So it’s back! I do have the part but gonna clean first. Thanks!
started happening to me too, but only happens in the morning, when its cold, about 40F, so i thought it also has something to do with teh cold. that could speak of the contact, but i also banged on my instrument panel, thinking it was a cold solder joint, and was able to get it to move half way down, (and back) twice, without the warning light, so i thought for sure that meant it was the instrument cluster, which isnt cheap. how did you fix it?
Yeah we never had an rpm issue it was just the alarm going off.
Can you elaborate some more on what you did? I noticed RPMs are a little off after the low oil pressure alarm came on and stalled the truck. Thanks.
Thank you so much! Having the same issue except mine would ding and than stall even though my oil read full. I will have to try this
Glad to help
My 2012 5.0 just stalled out twice this past weekend. Except it happened when I was going up a slight incline and the truck was articulating slightly and I had to put it in park and restart it. I literally had my oil changed last Wednesday at the dealer. Took it back had it all day today. Could not find an issue. Going to check that plug and possibly replace it just in to be on the safe side. Thank you for the info.
@@royroberts3384 did it work?

Just bought a 2012 and it started doing it. On my way to see if this works 🤞
Hope it works for ya.
Hell yea thanks so much man. This same thing was happening to my sons truck and we still need to fix it but we are going to do exactly what you did .
Awesome glad to help!
Checking it out Saturday I'll let you guys know
If the duralast switch triggers a warning at 4psi and the OEM one triggers at 7psi the OEM switch is more sensitive.
Shop was ready to charge me thousands then seen your video and a can of cleaner saved the day
Glad to help out!
Could be the same issue.
@@JoelG7.3 Figured it out. and correction on my dad's F-150 engine, it's got the 5.0L not the 6.2L, I was reading the wrong sticker under the hood that tells you the engine class. I was reading the A/C information sticker that for some reason had 6.2L engine written on it located on the top right side, not the white top left sticker on the left side. Glad I found your video.
@@willsantiago4652what did you do to solve the problem. I have a 5.0 doing the same thing.
Thanks for posting! Will definitely try this out.
Thanks for the video brotha, this shit had me perplexed for weeks now. I never thought to clean out the connection and I will definitely be trying that. I should of know to search UA-cam first before changing random parts.
I took it to a mechanic today...they said they couldn't get to it until Jun 28th.. which is fine - so i am going to try your resolution and will let you know. I have a 2013 F150 Lariat, 5.0 just turned 184,000 miles. This started over a year and a half ago. Two Ford service centers haven't been able to fix it. I'll let you know what i find out.
Cool, let me know if it helps
@glennsummers did it work?
@@ThePreachaMane hey Andrew - unfortunately, no. Just two weekends ago, perfect opportunity to get the truck up on high wheel jacks. And I could maneuver under the truck and around the 4whl drive differential casing. I was able to pop off the cap and I dry up inside the sensor and used compressed air inside the cap. From underneath .. I walked my buddy who was on the top side blindly press the cap back in place. I got down the road and it started again🤦🏼♂️🤬… Any other suggestions? Let me know, thanks for checking.
@@ThePreachaMane … hey I will say I didn’t use the degreaser or contact cleaner …. I think now that i know how and where… I’ll try that.
@@glennsummers763 did it work by cleaning it? What did you use to clean it with?
Hey man , I changed my sensor Twice , I bought the non-Motorcraft sensor and the low oil pressure light still came on.
So I bought a Motorcraft sensor , and cleaned the connector really good , I’m on Day 4 now and the low oil Pressure light has not came on !!!
Thanks for your video !!
No problem, glad to help!
Good deal. Just got your video. Just started having pressure issue with my 5.0
Let me know how it goes
Very helpful, had same exact issue thank you thank you thank you
Anytime glad to help
Just started having the exact same issue. My mechanic replaced the sending unit and still have the issue.
Did you ever fix the issue?
@@JoelG7.3 It seems that the new sending unit has fixed it for now. Only had the problem once after the unit was replaced and then it’s been fine ever since.
@@mstew23 sweet!
Just did this tonight added with a 10 mile drive hoping the relearn will accept the E-85 I’ve been dumping in the 5.0. Seems to have corrected itself 🫡
I replaced oil pressure sensors but the issue continued. I fix it by also replacing the pigtail to the oil sensor.
I have a 21 ford van and it has this same type of warning that comes up
Joel G; Thanks for the video, it suddenly helped me a lot.
Did you also clean the wire harness plug? make sure that doesn't have any oil in it also.
Ford was trying to have me pay $350 and they said I’d have to pull the alternator 🤣 thanks for saving me $333 and some change!!!
Awesome video! Gonna try this on my 2011!
Good luck!
Just had it happen to me. Will give it a try
Just replaced this part yesterday, and still getting the low oil pressure reading at idle. I'm guessing I didn't clean the harness well enough. Going back in with q tips to clean it better. What a pain in the ass these are on 4x4.
Yes they are on the 4x4. That’s one thing good about having a 2wd.
This just happened to me today and gonna try and clean it tomorrow. Engine runs great with high miles and no noises. Light pops on and sensor drops but as soon as I tap the gas the sensor goes back up and it goes away
Same thing that happened to this truck
My 2014 F150 V8 does this same thing when the oil level gets a little low, I just added about 1 quart and it goes away.
If it didn’t leak oil it would never happen.
You must have the Harley Davidson edition....😂
My man, if this works tonight I will owe you a six-pack!
Give my channel a shoutout instead haha
@@JoelG7.3 got you👍🏽✊🏾
I had the same thing on my 2012 f 150 I had a oil leak a the sending unit that I replaced with unit from oriels then started having oil light come on at stop signs for my truck I changed to 5/30 oil and got another sending unit from ford the hole on bottom of of ford unit was half the size of the one from parts store that stoped the oil pressure from dropping at stops
Yeah seems to be a common problem.
I changed my oil pressure censor but it's doing it now more than ever and that's while driving it. I just stop and shut it off, restart and it clears it. I will try cleaning the through body now.
Yes cleaning the sensor fixed that issue for us,
Man you are a savior
Not sure on my end. Hope you figure it out
Have you had any good news? Sounds similar to mine without the parking quirk.
Huge help appreciate it man
Yessir check out some of my other videos!
Autozone parts he must like doing things twice 😂
Thank you for that I have a truck that’s doing the same thing! Btw Great Video!
Thank you. Glad to help
Your sensor looked fine but apparently it doesn't matter. Lots of issues with 12 5.0 sensors going bad, usually lots of oil and gunk on sensor and wire harness. Gotta change mine in a few days, doing the whole rough idle low oil then shut off deal.
I’ve had the same problem, with the engine shutting off as well as the low oil pressure. Replaced the sensor but having the same problem. Find a fix?
@Nemesio Vigil Idk man I replaced my oil pressure sensor under cab, was at light low pressure light then shut off. After fixed never had issue again.
Ok Chris Pratt.
what was the name of the part you added to it.? our truck oil light just came on.. and also the engine overtemp..🤦♀️ any idea if the engine light has to do with the oil light..?
I think the oil pressure sensor is what I replaced and cleaned it. I’m not sure if the engine light has to do with that.
Well I'll do this before I change the sensor and see how that goes. Mine started right after an oil change and since I wouldn't let him change my air filter he had an attitude. That makes me think he may have splashed some oil while changing the oil filter or something.
Thank you for making a video on this
No Problemo
Very thankful
Do you have to remove the oil and sensor to clean the connectors? Or can you unplug the connector and clean it first without remove all the oil and sensor?
we just unplugged it
Worked on my truck. Thx
