This is one of those slightly under-the-radar series where you sort of forget how good it was until you see it again. It helps that Lou is as mad a frog on acid, and Joe is just weird. Iain brings the serious competitive energy and Sian is a little typhoon of randomness. Lou in a bin is an absolute classic Taskmaster moment that will never be forgotten.
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 yeah season 10 isn’t great and I normally like Richard Herring. It’s the rest that ruined that season for me. I also can’t watch season 3, season 15 is difficult and not looking forward to season 17
The portrait of Greg in this series was an original anime piece. They're always themed, or reference another artist or time period . This one references various anime tropes: Tsurime Eyes, Eyepatch Of Power, a cane, the metal hand. Regarding the other series: 1. Warhol; 2. Dali; 3. Lichtenstein; 4. Van Gogh; 5. Magritte; Champion of Champions: Royalty; 6: Escher; 7. Picasso; 8: Anime; 9: Arcimboldo; 10: Western; New Year's Treat: Classic Cinema/Keaton; 11: Soviet Russia; 12: Steampunk; 13: Mexico/Day of the Dead; 14: Circus; 15: 1960s/Psychedelia; 16: Roaring Twenties. Series 17 hasn't aired yet, but word around the camp fire is that it's horror themed, which would be apt as Steve Pemberton (The League of Gentlemen, Psychoville, Inside No. 9, Whitechapel) is in the lineup, along with Ted Lasso's Nick Mohammed, who's dressed as a vampire throughout.
Paul is on the chase in the uk he is a professional quizzer and comedian - bit of insight which might help with Paul he apparently had quite major shoulder surgery prior to the filming of tasks and was not supposed to raise his arm or do any lifting and shortly after filming this he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and I’m pretty sure he said it’s because people watched the show and noticed symptoms and told him to get checked out. Also Fun fact Lou is best mates with Brett Goldstein who plays Roy Kent so there’s a little Ted lasso link.
The bit about the diagnosis coming from fans warning is totally false. These episodes are used, however, by medical schools to teach warning sign recognition. I believe it was specifically New Zealand where that was first done.
@@dgpatter I'm very interesting in knowing how that works exactly. I mean, I can get the general vibe that something was wrong with him, but I'm not entirely sure what it is
I think from this point on i believe the taskmaster house is themed each season. So this season is anime theme a later season is steampunk themed later is circus themed
Lou is co-host with your fave Mel Giedroyc in a comedy show called Unforgiveable. It's a celebrity confession show with some great guests and truly shocking stories - there are some bits and bobs on YTube if you're not familiar, I think it's on its 4th season.
when/if asked which task they would like to have done the bridge task is often mentioned, I vaguely knew Joe from In Betweeners and the rest I got to know over the series
This is one of my all time favourite episodes of the show. The tasks are all on point and I personally love the S8 cast. Also I REALLY wanna play the train siren game with Alex.
Dispite this not being the best series, series 8 episode 1 is one of the all time best episodes of the show, strong prize task, strong love task, three amazing filmed tasks.
Not sure what order these reactions first appear, but you have seen Sian briefly before on WILTY. After Acaster recounts his Spice Girls story and how 'One of two things is going to happen. Either I get the Spice Girls album or I'm going to die', she responded ''Which one happened' with dry northern wit to which you responded 'What the hell, Lady'... Sorry, I'm geeky about Would I Lie. Love that show!
Series 17 is legitimately the first one I don't know anyone on the show that includes new years specials and such... I really hope it's okay. Cause I usually at least know one comic and have them to fall back on if I didn't know anyone else. Ie series 15 with frankie
Apparently Iain takes some getting used to for some people...I loved him my first time watching and don't really know what they're talking about. He later realized how competitive he came across and toned it down, but I wasnt that annoyed by him.
even for a series that often comes up as The Worst, honestly, Lou is top tier, Joe and Sian are really solidly charming oddballs, and Paul is wonderful if not exactly at the top of his game. Iain is not that bad and certainly not enough to ruin it
Sian is in a show called Car Share with Peter Kay (who you absolutely should react to). Also, my hyper intense ADHD is making me want to learn ventriloquism now
Seeing this is a reminder of how fucking hard I crushed on Iain and Joe, both together and separately. What funny, gorgeous, competent men they both are
personally i quite enjoyed this season! some people found lou and iain annoying, but i didn’t really think it was anything outside the usual competitiveness some contestants have, paul’s intelligence contrasted with how he approached tasks is interesting, and i was unfamiliar with sian but i found her lovely. i’m most fond of joe thomas, though-he’s so reserved but you get occasional bursts of energy like in the railway task (iconic, one of my fav tasks ever) (taskmaster minnesota replicated this and it’s also pretty great) which makes them really special and funny, love hearing guests on the tm podcast basically just go, “oh yeah no that’s just how joe is” hope you find some enjoyment out of this season as well!
My little breakdown of the cast: Iain Sterling was a presenter on the chlidren/young teen TV channel CBBC alongside the puppet Hacker T Dog. Nowadays he is the narrator voice for Love Island (I don't watch that crap but I think Iain's commentry makes it better at least). He can be a quite funny guy but isn't a stand up comic. He can be very competetive in this series and it's devisive among the fanbase. I personally find it very entertaining but a lot can find it annoying. He does tone it down after the first few episodes after a particularly harrowing self-reflection from watching a future task in the studio (looking forward to that reaction). Joe was Simon in The Inbetweeners as you know. I'm not familiar with anything else he's done. As you noticed, he's quite quiet and awkward in this series but he definitely has his great moments. Lou I had no knowledge of before TM and I don't know anything she's done after. She can definitely be funny but also comes across as competetive and annoying at moments in the series, especially when she and Iain butt heads. Again like Iain, I find it entertaining, but some don't. Paul is definitely the wild card this series. He's one of The Chasers on the show The Chase, who are a group of incredibly intelligent people who's job is to beat the contestants at the quiz. Going into this series I was skeptical but I ended up really enjoying him. He can actually be incredibly witty at moments in his dry refined way, and his task attempts can range from very smart to plain rubbish so it's fun to watch. Sian is my favourite. The only thing I know she's done is Peter Kay's Car Share, but I know she's been in other things I have seen but not properly absorbed. She comes across as a lovely mum personality while also having the excitable giddyness of a little girl. I love her humour and her personality. Overall I really enjoy the group, I think the reason some people don't is that they are all quite extreme personalties, but personally I think it balances with Iain and Lou super competitive, Paul super dry and Sian super wholesome and Joe being awkward 😅. But most importantly, I find them all really funny.
In case no one has said it yet, Joe Thomas has autism, and.. yep, that is how we roll. (It gets more obvious as the series goes on) I think he hasn't been formally diagnosed yet, but he has acknoledge it in the past. Kind of high functionism autism, as does Fern Brady, who you'll see in series 14.
