Hi! Thank you so much for sharing! I am self-publishing my debut novel this January (fingers crossed), and this is very insightful for me :) thank you! I personally have spent money on editing (and ordered cover design).
Thank you Bethany for being open and honest. I have waited for ages to find an author who would give a breakdown of costs not just skip over things. So a massive thank you for sharing all this information. I will now go and order your book. On 11th December 2022 ordered the paperback it says it will be with me before the holidays.
Happy Release day!!! Thank you so much for the info! I’m finishing my budget for my 2nd book and wanted to do better budget wise. I can for sure use some of your marketing ideas! Thank you!
Yaaay!!! Another money video! Thank you for breaking it down and showing us everything. Its so helpful! I think this re-launch and expansion is going to pay off. You've put so much effort into this and it shows!
Happy release date. Bethany. Can’t wait to read the second edition. Thank you for talking about the expenses of the Secret Gift and showing us the marketing side of indie publishing. Very insightful.
Thank you so much for saving me much heartache and money... I have a novel I was going to re-title and relaunch. Not Now! Not into all of the cost and marketing nonsense that goes into being a self published author these days. My book shall die in the annals of KDP and that's okay! I have a life to live and doing just fine without all of the publisher crap!!! Thanks again for the dose of reality and blessings to you and your endeavors.
Congrats!! Happy book release!! Oh my gosh girl, I'm literally in awe of how LITTLE you spent lol. It's all relative. I don't want to do anything on my own so I paid about 2.5 K total for my first book. 😬😳 I need to start a UA-cam channel lol
Yay thank you so much! 🥰 I appreciate that, and I've gone a lot higher as well as a lot lower, so it all depends on what the book needs and what you want to do honestly! :)
Yay! Not gonna lie the numbers are a little scary, but you're doing great and I'm glad your ROI is positive. It might take me a while but I'll read this book eventually! Still making my way through the primary books in this universe.
It's not something I'm able to say for sure, since I also promote my books super hard on the same day that they do, I have no way of knowing if the sales come from them or me. Sorry!
@@BethanyAtazadeh Thanks for replying! Also, thank you for always being so transparent with costs and money when it comes to self publishing! It's definitely helpful for us newbies still trying to figure things out :)
Isn't there also an expense for having the physical copies printed? I don't understand how any of this works! 😭 It's always been my dream to be traditionally published but honestly I'm beginning to accept that that probably won't happen. Thank you so much for helpful videos like this. You're awesome! I can't wait to read your books!
Yes and no. I work with "print on demand" companies like I talk about in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/sqhDUUMA6YE/v-deo.html So when a reader purchases a book, they take the cost of printing out of the purchase. It doesn't come out of my pocket / up front. Make sense? Glad the video was helpful!
I'm not selling my books well and I don't know if it's the books just arent good or what. But I barely find beta readers and reviewers and I feel that all my efforts find those, so all the readers I find end up as beta readers and reviewers and don't go on to buy the books. I'm usually on a tight budget so I don't know how else to market my books (definitely gonna check out all your videos cuz I need the help and advice). But on average I'm lucky if i get 10 reviews on release day so how did you get so many reviews for your book? And also how do you separate finding beta readers versus ARC reviewers?
Everyone starts out that way, don't give up hope! It takes years to build up and 10 reviews on release is actually amazing - I probably got 5 new reviews or so today, and the rest are from the first edition so don't let that fool you! ;) Reviews just like readers take time to build up. It's very wise of you to keep a tight budget, that will make building your books and career a lot easier if you're not going into debt over them as you work on the books. The best thing we can do is not compare and return to the internal reasons we write not the external numbers. You've got this!
@@BethanyAtazadeh thanks for the encouragement 😁 I guess we all need that from time to time (especially as authors) lol. Part of my problem is I get impatient so I want everything to happen now. I'm not getting any younger here lol. At least that's how I sometimes feel. I do the same with other things I want in life. And yes I shouldn't compare. I do that too much. Probably should do a video on it actually. I feel like it's a common problem among authors (well people in general but we are also bad at it too).
It doesn't look like it unfortunately. I'm currently working with Amazon and Barnes & Noble for the paperback, so those would be the places you could find it! :)
Thanks for this video! What advice would you give a newbie indie self-publisher? I’m working on my debut novel and have ZERO ARC readers, critique partners, etc. I will gladly pay for an editor but I have no idea where to find one! What do you suggest?
Congratulations on your book release! Thank you so much for another great video! You are always right on time. I've been given myself headaches through this whole process, but I'm so grateful for your insight because it gives me options and reminds me that it's absolutely possible for me to reach the finish line too!

I preordered it yesterday from B&N but I will definitely leave a review when I get it and read it.

Never heard of Sapphire Ink. Sounds like a valuable resource. I wish you'd linked to it.
I did. It's in the description.
@@BethanyAtazadeh Okay. Thanks. But is it worth it? Did it help your book sales? That's the important question.
Happy Release Day!! 🎉
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, this is amazing, thank you. I just have a question. Did you pay for copyright with your first book?
Yes I did! :)
I'm curious about the Sapphire Ink marketing service you mentioned. Can you explain what that is a little more, please?
Yeah here's the website, check it out: www.authorkathrynmarie.com/tour-planning-services
I cant wait til i buy your book
Yay! 🎉
@@BethanyAtazadeh You inspired me to focus on my books to be ready for amazon and barnes and noble
How did you send out the preorder incentives? Mailed them out directly? So you asked people for their shipping addresses on your website?
I have this book in front of me right now lol. I've been sneaking a a few pages in around work 😂
Haha love that, that's totally something I would've done lol!
@@BethanyAtazadeh I'm obsessing about trim sizes right now as I prepare my own novel. Can I ask what did you use for this book?
Hi Bethany! Do you feel like the Sapphire Ink book blast/marketing noticeably helps your book?
It's not something I'm able to say for sure, since I also promote my books super hard on the same day that they do, I have no way of knowing if the sales come from them or me. Sorry!

I'm new to your books ( just got The Stolen Kingdom). Do you recommend reading TSK series before or after this new series?
You can start with either! I made it a goal to make this new series enjoyable for readers whether they read the previous series or not!
