This here is what I call a Cadillac. This time period and before. What GM makes in todays time are not Cadillac's. They're just dressed up chevy's with a Cadillac emblem on it.
@@davidpar2 - When GM decided to drop Pontiac, Saturn, and even Oldsmobile several years before, they should have also dropped Cadillac. If you're not going to keep and respect the history and traditional styles of a car brand, then it's time to leave well enough alone and let it go. At least Lincoln somewhat kept that classic tradition going with the new Lincoln Continental.
I can't believe I found this video...I just bought this car from a guy in Marathon Key, FL. This actual car, not one like it...the seat still has the white smudge on it, and it's still in almost perfect condition. Just turned 103k miles. Driving it daily now!
+Cereal Marshmallows these cars are cruisers, not muscle cars, total luxury smooth riding like a cloud car, with a V8,perfect match for both, love these old cars, this is when cars WERE cars,NOT!!! a computer, cause if u think about it,that's all we are driving nowadays
My folks bought an '84 Seville because of the styling. When I saw this as the 1980 redesign, I was in love. That hump trunk and the lines just won me over. Then, when my folks and I were going to friends, I spied one on the road and motioned to my dad the new Seville on the road. He was even more impressed than I was. Needless to say, when they came into some inheritance $$$, they bought the 1984 model. And we experienced the love/hate this car generated. No middle ground on this car. A bit like the '71 to '73 boattail Buick Riviera.
I remember the old California where there was one of these cars everywhere you looked. Now it seems they all drive Lexus! Amazing how things go down hill over time.
Look at the luster, the pop of that paint, amazing! NATHAN - At the auction the old school Lincolns and Cadillac's, we would write on the window with a grease pen "Ten feet tall and bulletproof!"
I used to had a 83 Cadillac Seville, elegante with the wheel cover on the trunk, & the rear window had the vinyl cover & it stopped at the rear passenger doors, after that it had a strip of aluminum with a blue light on each side, a sun roof & a Royce Rolls grill! Everything was elegant it had the luxury look to it thru the inside and out! What sucks about it it's that when I moved into where I live now I had to get rid of it cuz it was too big to fit here where I live in, so I sold it & never again I seen another 1 the same as the 1 I had, nor I never could find out the complete name of that special Cadillac just as a 83 Seville Cadillac!!
Hey-ya, Nathan... Noooooòo pimping allowed on this lovely Seville!!!!! You can do that on your own cars, but it is a deal killer for a dedicated collector...I recently saw a '93 Brougham which had been raised w I th 22 in. Chrome spinners just sit and sit * the increase in height just made the car look ridiculous@!! ( unless you ARE a guy from the hood....nottttt![ I would apply a ceramic coating or F11 to this black beauty...helps protect against those annoyingly obvious scrstches... ...and, the wood trim on these 4-doors is flame and Birdseye maple...the real deal...
Nothing more beautiful than the Seville Bustleback ! Well maybe the Silver Spur or Jaguar XJ6 or 8. I have a 1985 that I've had sine 2001 and I LOVE IT !!! People gawk when I drive by .... I will never sell this car . It's a member of the family. LOL .. Thanks for your post and respect for the Bustleback Seville . I am about to pick up a 1986 Lincoln Continental Bustleback. I hope I enjoy it as much as my Seville.
First off, I know you can't do it all the time but I LOVE the long test drives. Secondly that is a gorgeous car and I'd give my left nut to own one like it in that condition. I've loved those type of Seville's since day one, no prettier Cadillac was ever made as far as I'm concerned. I've owned two caddy's in my life, an 80's model De ville and a 70's model Eldorado. I didn't care much for the De ville but the Eldorado was freakin' awesome.
Thank you for sharing, the caddy is beautiful, so is that particular bod style. I had two 85 Seville's and they have horrible engines. I also had an Eldorado Barritz for less than a month and some maniac rear ended me and totaled it.
We had a 1984 Seville my folks bought new off the lot. Greyfern exterior with grey leather inside. Had almost every option on it except Seat Memory, Anti-theft and Moonroof. Truly a nice car with those distinctive lines. When we got it home day one my dad commented that he'd paid more for that car than he'd paid for the house they had, and he paid CASH for the Caddie. Wish l could have kept it.
PIMPIN... "Back in the 80's, if you were somebody, you had one of these." So true. There was a big time envy factor. From the late 70's thru the early 80's, the Seville's ruled the city streets. Now, they're "ghetto fabulous", which "ain't bad, neither"... The new Cadillac XTS is a little Seville-esque in back, and super classy.
I see, yea I noticed that after I watched the video thoroughly. I posted the comment too early before I heard him mention that it was a HT4100. I have the 4.9 myself, it's a great engine. HT4100 I hear mixed things about, like lower knock and leak issues. I see a lot with low miles because they usually don't make it past 120k, the HT4100. The 4.5 and 4.9 is where it's at for reliability. It is a beautiful car none the less.
If you have the 4.9 you don't own this car. 4.9 was never offered until 1990. The first two years of production on this body style you could have had the 368
Wow what a beautiful car and a real eye catcher! I saw a 1985 Cadillac Seville on Craigslist and the seller had lowered the price from $2400 to $995! I was about to buy it, but when I called it was already sold. :( I'm kicking myself right now lol. I still have my '89 Cadillac Brougham, but I'm waiting on my husband to do an engine swap. Mine has a 307 Olds and I know this one is HT4100. I've heard it's notorious for the coolant leaking into the oil, is that true?
stellarfungk85 Yes it's true. There is a decal under the hood that mandates the use of stopleak to prevent major engine damage. This applies to 4.1,4.5,4.9 and Northstars up to around 2003. The stopleak is available at any GM dealer. They are also known as "Coolant Cookies" or "radiator tablets/pellets" hence they are brown tablets. The HT Series requires 6 cookies while the Northstar requires 3. The cookies seal up the headgaskets WHEN they blow just like Cadillac engineers knew they would blow...LOL!!!
Thanks for your reply. Now I'm glad that I didn't end up buying this car after all! If course this Caddy is nice to look at, but it's very problematic under the hood unfortunately. :( It makes you wonder why GM would put something like that out knowing in advance how faulty the engine is!
stellarfungk85 I would guess it was a combination of an arrogant and or cocky attitude from the engineers and the pressure from the EPA to meet CAFE standards. The engineers knew the engine would last throughout the warranty period with the use of stopleak so I guess they didn't care about the engine in the long term. I had an 86 Seville with the 4100 and an 88 DeVille with the 4.5. They both blew a headgasket even with the use of the stopleak. My 88 blew the headgasket so bad the stopleak only temporarily sealed the leak. On the 86 the stop leak became the headgasket after it blew. It took 12 cookies and I could see the stopleak seeping between the heads and the block and smell it as I drove. This happened at 113,000 mi and I kept the 86 until 125,000. The 88 Deville blew at 91,000 mi and required a $3500 engine rebuild. I hope this gives you a general idea on how long these engines last.
have been driving cadillac brand since the early '80's. I have had other cars but always went back to caddy's. as of now I have a 2019 XT4 and it's a good reliable car. sounds like the gas lighters really got to you( there's lots more to it than what is said LOADLY) just do your homework and don't let other tell you the REAL facts. I will say there was a time when they did't seem to care about reliability but even then you took car of them they take care of you. I had my '85 Seville (4.1 liter engine {UGH}) up to 123,000 miles purring like a kitten on the original tranny and engine before someone crashed into her. I cried that night 😤😤
This is my very first car but it needs a lot of work its really rusty cause it was my new next-door neighbors and they let it sit a lot so I'm gonna restore it and I can't wait to drive it :)
There's just something missing in my opinion...oh yeah, it's the trunk! 🤭 The 79 Seville was the last Cadillac I liked. After that just give me an 89 Caprice Classic.
I agree, The Parisienne was built similar to the Caprice. It was an amazing car. I'd like one with the 350 actually. The 305 is the same they used in the Caprice as well. They're not high performance but they last forever. Very difficult to find now, especially in good condition. I remember years ago we had an old Velour and that thing lasted forever. I'm still trying to find a nice Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance in Black with the 350. Preferably 90-92. He was selling one He's in Cali though.
I believe the Buick Electra and Le Sabre was built off the same as the cars you've mentioned as well. I think the 80s was really a great era for GM they made some high quality amazing cars for that era. Compared to today, makes the new ones look like a joke.
Got to tell you I have one like this, but mine has 78 blazer running gear grafted on the cad frame, and has been tubbed so all the running gear is way up. It has a L46 350 vette engine and 31's ,it was done by a company in the south and has no rust, but im working at making it better. People think it just has big tires hahaha
Beautiful though none the less. I see later in the video its a HT4100. Which is meh, not my cup of tea. I have the 4.9 DeVille myself and I love that engine. I love this color combination though. It's amazing, I don't like the slantback though personally it just looks weird to me. It would be awesome if it was a 89-93 DeVille/Fleetwood/Sixty Special in Black/Black. I'd probably buy it, so hard to come by these days in Black.
My Mom used to drop me off at school in this in 84'-85. I used to make her drop me off at the lower parking lot and walk up. I thought it was so ugly. Miss that car now..
hey nathan, if you know, which im hoping you do, what on earth was the purpose of the bumper fillers? In my opinion it was a terrible idea because nowadays whenever you see any of the early 80 GM cars its very rare to find them with the fillers intact lol, theres just a big gap CHUNK missing lol. I was thinking the only possibility was incase of a minor bump, they crack instead of the damaging the body, but seems like a stretch! enjoying your DIY videos KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
at the time this car came out in 1980, my boss drove a Mercedes and he said he liked it, reminded him of a Daimler,. I might be wrong, but I thought that Chrysler NY coupe came out around the same time as this car did maybe even a year later?
Whoever did the repaint sure didn't know the proper emblem placements.... Seville on the back 1/4 is hilarious because it should be on the fenders near the front. The side 1/4 emblems are not located correctly and the Seville emblem is missing on the trunk. It's still a great car...I'm just knowledgeable and irritated by poor paint jobs and emblem placements
Yea I agree, The Northstar was terrible for years. It took them awhile for them to make it a reliable engine. Actually the 2006-2011 DTS with Northstar is rated as one of the most reliable luxury cars you could buy. Too bad its discontinued as Cadillac is going in a different direction these days. I miss the 80s and 90s Olds. They were tanks. I think the 4.5 and 4.9 Cadillac engines are the best they've made in terms of quality and reliability. My old 4.5 was 260k plus before it got totalled.
I will put a couple of crappy pics up of it, I do not have any great pics. When I got it I had to go thru it to pass emissions, I got lucky after all said and done. There is no emissions on it of course, but I got hubby plates now. I am still working on it but not done yet.
If any1 has an idea of what kind of Cadillac Seville I had & what's the name of please let me kno, I can't find another 1 like it I looked thru the whole Web & UA-cam and I can't find anything like it!
Cadillac today, like Jaguar, have thrown away their heritage, which is the only thing they had against the competition. Today we get cars that emulate Japanese cars in terms of style, but without the build quality.
I had an '83; was in rough shape; rusty rails; bad engine trouble; soaked me for almost 2 thou before I smartened up and got rid of it. Too bad; I loved the car; it was a pleasure to drive when it co-operated; if I could find one that was "correct" I would be interested. See my first vid; a musical composition of mine; to view. Don Poitras - UA-cam
The 1980-85 Seville is the greatest Cadillac of all time. If you were driving one of these back then you were straight up pimp.
had one of these. sold it at a profit. had a 73 sedan deville. that thing was straight up tank
not
This here is what I call a Cadillac. This time period and before. What GM makes in todays time are not Cadillac's. They're just dressed up chevy's with a Cadillac emblem on it.
I agree 100%.
Crossovers are atrocious enough, but the “Cadillac” crossovers GM is crapping out today are _abominations_

I love slant back cars , I really wish this style would come back
I like these cars; it's like an early 4-door coupe!
What??? 4 doors are sedans. 2 doors are coupes. The Eldorado was the sister car to this which was the coupe.

Beautiful car!
Yes a very beautiful Cadillac Eldorado especially in black.
stupid question but is it front wheel driv?
THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR!!!
I agree, The Parisienne was built similar to the Caprice. It was an amazing car. I'd like one with the 350 actually. The 305 is the same they used in the Caprice as well. Nathan, there is also a ding ding seatbelt noise in Slantback Sevilles, they sounded like a ding dong doorbell or an elevator chime.
Sometimes you just wanna check out the bottle back

Mane!! This Caddy Seville is beautiful yo! :)

My old neighbor mr. june had a cadillac seville like that one
It looks like someone stole one of my detailing tricks under the hood, but the engine compartment looks as good as I do it.
Im just waitin for you to surprise me with a nice '78 or '79 seville elegant, but u keep em comin! thanks Nathan
Compare the bumper on this piece to the 1983 on the same channel. This is how a good bumper should look.
speaking of the 4100 there it is
How many lots do you have 3?
Is the w140 more reliable?????
WOW what a car can we style again by real designers and not a Damm computer!
Best Car Ever
How many cadillac Sevilles you have
hey nathan, if you know, which im hoping you do, what on earth was the purpose of the bumper fillers? In my opinion it was a terrible idea because nowadays whenever you see any of the early 80 GM cars its very rare to find them with the fillers intact lol, theres just a big gap CHUNK missing lol. I was thinking the only possibility was incase of a minor bump, they crack instead of the damaging the body, but seems like a stretch! enjoying your DIY videos KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
i need help to find the fuel pump relay, i have a 1984 cadillac seville.
I thought the '85 Seville's had the digital speedometer.

Yeah, me too. In 2012, I had a 1985 Lincoln Continental sedan.
I would put an art deco fin on it like a spine.
What were u asking for this?
If any1 has an idea of what kind of Cadillac Seville I had & what's the name of please let me kno, I can't find another 1 like it I looked thru the whole Web & UA-cam and I can't find anything like it!
ok ill keep in touch
Cadillac today, like Jaguar, have thrown away their heritage, which is the only thing they had against the competition. Today we get cars that emulate Japanese cars in terms of style, but without the build quality.
WAS CADILLAC SEVILLE ELEGANTE SLANT BACK EVER MANUFACTURED IN RIGHT HAND DRIVE

I had an '83; was in rough shape; rusty rails; bad engine trouble; soaked me for almost 2 thou before I smartened up and got rid of it. Too bad; I loved the car; it was a pleasure to drive when it co-operated; if I could find one that was "correct" I would be interested. See my first vid; a musical composition of mine; to view. @randomrazr yeah that is a fwd.
This is before the redesign for the 1986-1993 model
MegaZeldafan1 although the Fleetwood and brougham are nice.
0 - 60 in about 14 seconds. This is not a powerful car. The 4.1's had a lot of problems too.
They always blow head gaskets and have overheating problems
Just LS swap it. It’ll fix the HT4100 problems.
