- Intermittent auger failure. In this trouble shooting video I disassembled my Pitboss to reveal the source of the issue. The auger turns but stops. Keep in mind here are no pellets and minimal resistance to the auger. After diagnosing my issue I contact Pitboss for support. Resolution in part 2.
Since your machine is cold, something has to tell your machine not to empty all your pellets. There's a high-temperature shut off that prevents the motor from over feeding more pellets. The only problem with the motor could be sticky lubes in the bushings. If you can monitor the voltage to the motor, find out if it's being told to stop. The motor support is a good idea.
Nothing to keep it from running dry, it has on several occasions. I had it on high temperature so it would not shut off. Keep in mind it was stopping without any resistance from pellets too. I think it may just be worn out but I’m not sure. I hope they have good support on the phone and not just people who field calls and read from a book. I’ll explain it all in part 2.
Those are some damn good grilles.
Yes, I love it. I did charcoal for years and thought the pellet grill would never match the flavor, but I think after nearly two years of practice I’ve gotten where it’s better than the charcoal.
Any updates? Mine does the same thing
@@jameshoffman3730 Hmm, mine done a lot of weird things and wasn’t always reproducing the same symptoms. I replaced the HMI / control unit and it is working good now. I didn’t finish the 2nd video because I could never put my finger on what was actually faulty.
I replaced Motor still won’t feed. I made it turn 1/4 turn then stopped.

We have the same problem
Do you have part 2 of the video I don’t see it anywhere
Great question! I battled this off and on for awhile. I got the HMI replaced and everything works fine now. I fought it back and forth and the video turn out terrible. One thing I never mentioned and Pitboss TS didn’t explain is the auger does have a built in delay every so often to keep it from piling up too many pellets before igniting and then causing a huge fire. Bottom line is I believe my original HMI would work sometimes but others it would do the pause and just never restart. Hope this helps!
So, was your problem ever resolved, bud?
What is HMI?
I have the same problem and have done the same repair procedures you did many times. 🤪🙄🥴
@@MyGeeoo HMI is Human Machine Interface. The control unit may be a better term( my day job is electronics).
Oh, and yes it’s working fine, just finished a steak off it tonight!
Thank you friend but what solved the problem?
Is there a story about what happened to your left thumb nail ?
Yeah, it’s been getting some attention lately. I thought about making a video and telling the story when it’s time for it to come off. Hammer, bad eyes, in a rush…
