    Hey brother, props on the pool. Wrapping up the deck for our stock tank pool as we speak. I just wanted to jump in here and tell ya that your diagonal strap for you gate should go the other direction. You want the brace to run from the bottom hinge up to the latch side of the gate. Wood, when properly constrained, is generally stronger in compression than it is in tension. Running the strap the other direction will place most loads on your strap in compression rather than tension.

    My father was adopted when he was very young in 1930s. Thru DNA testing we found many of his blood relatives living from S Texas where my adaptive grandparents took in my father from catholic adoption to Durango Mexico. His father was killed in a railroad tunneling work site somewhere in Illinois. Ironically I’m living in Illinois and wonder. Which tunnel did my grandfather meet his end? I lived for 7 yrs in New Albany IN and familiar with Ohio valley terrane and oddity’s. Was a member of N.S.S. National Spelunking society for many yrs. I should concentrate my exploring to S Illinois where tunneling for railroad works in 1930s would have taken place. Thank you for inspiring videos.

    Do you ever have an issue with rust forming in the tank. I think it happened from using chlorine but I’m not sure ?

    • @maxspeedadventures
      @maxspeedadventures Місяць тому

      No I have not. I think the galvanized coating would have to be scraped away for it to rust. If you notice the difference between now and when it was new in the original video, it now looks cloudy or dull. That is the coating forming what we called white rust when I worked in grain bin business. It forms to protect the metal from rusting. It can flake away in a bending process or roll former. My guess is your tank had missing galvanize.

    This is the kind of person who has no business with a UA-cam channel. Not a single thing you said had anything to do with the downsides to camping in an Element. It rained. Stuff gets wet when it rains. It doesn't matter what kind of rig you're in. Also, it's shameful that you put a bunch of food in a fabric tent and then acted surprised that animals got to it. Like you're out camping and you don't know you need an animal proof container if you're going to do that... If you'd have left it in your car, they wouldn't have gotten to it. ... man, have a seat.

    We camp in a CRV and my hardfast rule is that before bedtime I put everything that animals could eat or would be messed up by rain in the front seat at night. Anything of value that could be stolen as well. I don’t ever use plastic tote boxes. They’re generally a pain. I use sturdy canvas supermarket type bags to store most everything. So much easier and convenient to pop them into small spaces in the vehicle. Second most important rule is: The weather man/woman tells fibs. Don’t trust the forecast and assume that it’s going to rain and mess up your stuff. Use a cheap tarp or even a dollar store plastic tablecloth if necessary and hold the edges down with rocks

    I bought an '05 Element in March. Camped in her last month with 3 other ladies who own Elements, with my 3 dogs. I bought the Coleman ComfortSmart cot and slept on that. With its 15" clearance most of the stuff I brought fit under it. I just swung the two rear seats up and out of the way so my dogs had room to sleep. I've since bought a Thermarest, as the cot pad plus 2 yoga pads weren't enough paddibg for me. I bought a BRS-11 stove (uses isobutane) and ordered a butane adapter (I already have a propane adapter), and just ordered a very small BRS 3000T knockoff in case I need a second burner. Bringing along a small, collapsible twig stove in case you run out of fuel is probably a good idea. After the past year's issues with coons at my house, I don't leave food out when camping. I have hanging containers for fresh fruit and some produce, and small plastic totes that stack for dry food. I'll probably experiment with bringing along my 12qt Alpicool fridge and a small power bank, but so far have just dehydrated food and brought that, so haven't needed refrigeration. I bring a small insulated soft tote with food that needs to be kept cooler, with frozen packs alongside it inside. Good for a couple of days if it's not too hot. I love using the tailgate for sitting or cooking. I have a small 4-shelf rolling rack I found at Walmart and a low chair that folds up small enough to store in the rear compartment, and a side table that collapses for easy storage/travel. I bought two Kelty bags to store kitchen stuff in at REI, & just ordered a knife set that cimes in its own bag with cleaning cloth, soap dispenser and folding cutting board. How'd you make your window covers? I still need to do that for mine.

    Story for ya. About 20 years ago, my sister and her ex were asleep in their tent when something woke them up. They saw the shadow of a racoon outside the tent so the ex tossed a pillow at the wall of the tent to make it go away. Well, turns out that coon was actually inside. And this was a new tent with a circular opening and it took them a hot minute to find the zipper. They finally found the zipper pull, dove outside and got in their truck. The coon just stared at them from inside the tent while standing on it's hind legs. Then it began pouring rain. And yes, they had a bag of food in their tent. I have laughed about this story forever and it never gets old telling it to others. Thankfully, no one got bit or scratched.

      I’ve tried it different ways. I think mixing is the best method to help give it an even consistency. Spreading dry worked, but I needed more water in the thicker spots and it was hard to get right. Concrete is basically a mix of rock, sand, and Portland. The rock and sand settle and it leaves a smooth top coat of Portland. I simple add more Portland over my existing concrete for a new appearance. It’s super easy, you can do it. Good luck!
