i don't think they should have resolved it because that would make you think about the song less since it wouldn't bother you. now 2 versions of this song are embedded in your DNA since you think about it so much. also i've seen porter live at least 5 times i love him haha
Honestly, I could go either way with this. I feel that NOT resolving that melodic line helps build tension, which is the whole point of a breakdown/buildup. But I also feel that resolving that segues really nicely into the drop again. HOWEVER. I feel like the Knife Party version kinda half-assed it on both sides. If they leaned into the tension, they should have left that note going for another bar or something instead of it disappearing like a fart in the breeze. And if they leaned into the resolution, they should have actually resolved it. Dig the breakdown though, and I love the comparison to complextro from the early 2010's being like inside a can of Monster. I'll remember that one.
I love how it hangs instead of resolving with those two notes. Leave that tension to draw the listener into the buildup (on the KP remix. I think those two end notes fit the original really well). Also, I love the sound design in the KP remix but the "whoops" are definitely dated.
