I was looking for this!!! I think I watched that video tens of times. Awesome, inspiring stuff!
this has lived rent free in my head for at least 8 years now
Man, that initial melody line was nothing until the bass line came in. Thanks for deconstructing, dude!
I know what you mean. But I disagree. The first 8 bars with the simple 2 note melody at 1:58 is everything. You can make any kind of hit song with only that midi. That's why music is so fascinating to me. The fact that such a "simple" melody can be so unique.
Deadmau5 is the king of tasty analog sounds and just enough melody. I've been around jazz musicians most of my life and they know how to do this but could learn to stop throwing out so much of it all at once.
What separates him from other musicians is timing, self-restriction and space.
He's a musical genius. Understands music and sound unlike any other. Love this song and the Tony Trash Remix
Tommy you mean? :D
He’s more of a sound engineer/designer than a musician. Incredibly talented man.
His understanding of sound design is impressive to me too, but his melodies and harmonies are really basic. Doesn't make them bad, oftentimes simplicity leads to catchiness, but as someone with a background in composition its really not 'genius' or 'unlike any other'
@@timdoring8571 I don't know How much You are familiar with Deadmau but for me He's the most Inspirational Artist in an EDM industry. I do watch his Live stream of 8-9 hours. He's a Fucking Robot. he has made his own style getting inspired by several artists like Nine Inch nails boards of Canada aphex twin. If You had followed his music you'll suprise to know How versatile his music is.
@@timdoring8571 its simple because it needs to be for the masses, im not gonna make a crazy ass super melodic beat and release expecting it to go off and land on the radio or billboards because its too complex for the regular ear. so ill make something impressive yet simple and catchy for the masses. i bet he can do more on his own that others wont hear other than him and im sure he has thousands of tracks on the drive just laying for himself only. so, in the end he is crazy talented and a genius at making hit tracks that will last a lifetime. you want to listen to complex and crazy shit then go listen to classical music or jazz
Every time you re-create song we feel nostalgic. ❤🕊️
Joel has one of the cleanest sounding music in the whole industry. its quite fascinating. his sound selection and mixing is just god tier. also pretty sure i saw you a while ago at pjs near WC. did know you were in this area so thats pretty cool. cheers keep up the content
this song always makes me want to cry. No reason's it's just gives me such a happy feeling that everything is going to be okay.
Fuck yeah brother. It got me through some really hard times!
@@sxoutzi hope life has been treating you better ever since
@@VietnamG yeah the recovery process took a looong time, but i am building a better life for myself now!
Deadmau5 is the goat
He came to our town a few years back to do a set, we were all taken by suprise because we like in a small town that gets no big star's to play gig's.
It was a great night that I didn't want to end.
With Prydz :)
Deadgo4t
I recognized the melody on the piano roll before hitting play. One of the best and iconic tracks the mau5 man has released. THE GOAT.
Remembering the day where I'd put this song on repeat back n forth from home to high school to training... golden days ❤
bro we all lived the same life ❤
"It's not even close. But it's close." That had me rolling. Great video!
6:02 I'd love to see an entire video just about that sound!
Was just thinking the same thing
Every time i see your videos, it makes me happy to see your passion towards music.
Every 5 seconds: "But it doesnt end there"
Never ending 😂😂
Happy life with the machines
scattered around the room

Great video Alex!
My absolute fave song by Deadmau5 (he has a lot). But it's so beautiful. Thank you for breaking it down. It's amazing to see the details. Great video
I remember watching the streams as he made the veldt, it felt honestly historical as i witnessed it come together.
Fond memories of the time this album released
The genius of Deadmau5 is present in your simple explanation of his genius!
Yes this sounds , harmony and melody is brilliantly beautiful.
The comediacly large headphones
Right!? My first thought was sarcastically, "Why didn't he get the big ones" 😁😂
😂😂😂
Exactly!!! He looks dumb! Can't take him seriously hahahaha 😂😂😂
Audeze headphones are huge.. They sound crazy good though because of that.
😂

I don't know if your headphones could get any bigger, and I am here for it! They probably have a great sound to them! Best headphones I ever had were gi-fucking-gantic!
I was asleep and dreaming when this video came on and in my dream I was in a house with producers and everytime this melody repeated I’d get up and start dancing like a fool lmao
Such a good breakdown video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this analysis. That song has been on some playlist of mine for many years and to this day.

Definitely one of my favorite DM tracks. “So in love with the we are. “ here.

Man... i was just thinking about doing a full progressive house remix of the track ^^
Thanks for the breakdown! So so cool and the vibe... i mean come on, just amazing
This is why deadmau5 is my favourite musician
That was great 👍
отличный разбор, спасибо
Thanks a lot for this beatuyful content.
no youre absolutely right that is beautiful. ive tried to recreate strobe it also has cool chords :)
Dude I love your Mau5 breakdowns… they just make sh£t click when I’m thinking about my own productions nice one fella 🤙🏽
Here before it blows up
If you wanna make the song even better, go read the ray bradbury short story of the same name. Listening to the song after understanding the context behind the lyrics is absolutely haunting. Freaking masterpiece
I love how your tutorial covers both the sound design and arrangement. I was able to follow along with the first half using the MC-101! Then, I ran out of tracks... I'll have to figure out how to record internal samples so I can add the rest of the layers.
Woow thanks
Спасибо!
This guy is so smart
The Veldt is my favorite deadmau5 song!
Best of the best! Personally, I'm waiting for "Channel 43" breakdown)))
Nice 🎉🎉
This effing Video brings me back into my twens 😮😢😅
you got a fair few of the notes wrong, i've done a few case studies on this song over the years as I learnt music production, but you nailed the production. Deadmau5 is such a master of EDM and someone you can learn a lot from!
Knowing that a synth patch uses Serum makes it sound better
Great video ! But two small errors in the chords of the second part of the melody
I've been seeing your videos as recommended since about a mont and now I started to look for them! Too bad you're not using FL Studio, but anyway - you've got a new subscriber, Mr. Rome 🔔
Those headphones are so massive
basically studio monitors attached to you ears lol
Which headphones is this?
Your headphones giving me Its All Gone Pete Tong, movie vibes! 😂😂😂
First time ever that a set of headphones taught me something
Great video Alex! Could you do a video about Eric Prydz?
Neat 😊👍
We need you on a Boris Brejcha track next please 😊
Hello sir I'm your big fan ❤️ ❤❤
Love it, how you feel the soul of the music. Not many ppl I know, are capable of it.
Deadmau5 is without doubt a talented composer. I love his mesmerizing tracks as well as those more dancey.
I know it's a style change, but could you take a look at some Synthwave tracks and share your opinions? There's a lot of talented composers there. I'd start with Malo - La Dune, that's a feeling euphoria there. Then there's Turbo Knight (e.g. Bonzai, Space Cowboy, Prophecy...), LukHash, WaveShaper... I found the style when my kids were small and loud, and I had to return to nostalgia to feel like the life is easy again :D
nice vid and btw i used your vocasl in my songs( on my channel)
What do you think of Logic 11 Alex?
ALEX PLEASE DO A BREAKDOWN OF POLARIS PLEASE EVERYONE WANTS IT
I love all Tracks he collaborated with Mellefresh those were hits...all the stuff after hmmeee
You should do a video on his song Ghosts and stuff
His second best song. Strobe being 1st
I Remember sitting at 3rd place
Reduction is the best
