I just turned 30, and for the past 5 years I feel like I've actually been progressing and figuring out how to really actually learn. im not just banging my head against the wall anymore cause my grown ass man brain understands trial and error. Been skating since I was 12, and for like 13 years i just didn't understand how to really learn. I'm 30 now and i feel like im just really getting started
Hell yeah!! Im thinking when you get up there in age like us vert is where it’s at. Dangerous yes but less impact and wear on your hips knees and back. Good call brother.
I am a runner and I know Since I was 29--30 years old I had to in running give more time for easier runs between hard workouts like speed work or running hills where I needed 2--3 days depending on how intense the workout was, however a tempo run is not as bad and only need a day unless I did a long tempo run. Also, almost Age 29 in 2017 I was hit by a car and somehow almost no injuries but for 4 years after I could not run more then 1 mile in a single 12 hour period or I had hip pain/lower back. Only in end of 2021 could I really run again accidently running a harder 6.2 miles/10 kilometers on trails for my third run back where others were around 2.5--3 miles and easy.
I’m fully aware of the struggles of skating in my 40’s. Even though I can barely get my ass off the ground it feels more fun now than it did back in the 90’s/ 00’s.
35 years now. Started skateboarding when i was 29. Learned switch front heel last week. And im really really motivated to ga out skating as much as i can. When i skate i feel young AF. Not so much The next day though😂. Had a bad injury last year. It took 6 months to get back. Was a long time waiting. Lets keep iT going my “old” dudes!!!
I'm 57 and started back skating a few years back....I ride bikes, pushups, lift weights sometimes. No board popping, mostly just transitions and bowls, to not kill yourself or Break an ankle
Iv just bought a skateboard at 37 it’s been 20 years since i last skateboarded i think age is just a number but i definitely don’t feel as light or flexible as i once did! But absolutely loving it even if i am just pumping up and down the ramps 🤙🏻
49 and got back into it 3 weeks ago. It's hard man, but it's great fun. Know your limits, go slow getting into, build strength, know when to call it for the day.
35 here turning 36 in June. I am skating the best I have in my whole life, recovered from a ACL in 2021. I have injured myself over and over until I really started to try to fix that, sticking to my limitations more, fine tuned my set up and shoes I skate, and try to skate daily, helps me the most. SHOES x BOARD x STRETCHING x WARMING UP = 35 YEAR OLD SKATER NOT INJURED
@@romchompa6858 shoes are so important, ive noticed if i skate Emerica slip ons those are great for me for transition or hill bombing, but if i do flip tricks I like the ES Accel slim.
I'm 49. RN recovering from 2 broken ribs after a big slam at my local park. I've been through the physio fire so many times now that I know it's entirely a mental game. The strength of your mind and being able to visualize both the physical injury and how to recover is the key. Rest up / Do your research / Make a plan! I cannot recommend skipping rope enough as part of this plan. It's the ultimate skate / cross training recovery tool for longevity. It's low impact but works every muscle you use in skateboarding - especially combined with a few tricks to keep your routine exciting. It will send your cardio through the roof as a bonus. It will get you back on your board sooner so you can Skate or Die! Keep up the great content Zack!
This was so helpful, thank you. I'm a woman in my 30s with flare-ups of chronic pain/fatigue, but have been trying to get back into skateboarding recently - the benefits it brings to my life outweigh the cons at the moment (and hopefully for a long time yet). It reminds me to make the most of good health while it's here, and to just have fun because we can. I just take it easy and try each time I go out to make little improvements in my skills. I try not to compare myself to others, because my goals are not necessarily the same as someone else's. I also just really enjoy watching others skate, without feeling pressure to replicate what I see. I'd like to say I care less about how stupid I look, but being a girl skater in the 00s... felt like a hostile time... I still have some ghosts. The skate community feels more inclusive these days, or maybe as an adult that's just what I focus on more. Anyway, great video, well done all for braving the concrete 30s+
My buddy and I both are 40 and are still hitting street spots and the parks around where we live. One thing I have learned getting back into it is I can't help but be super cautious in learning new tricks but the less bumpy long road does eventually get you there and getting hurt sucks.
According to these comments… apparently I’m a young skater at 34 😎 I feel young and great. Always fun to hear the kids at the park say “wow you’re 34?!? I can’t believe you’re so old!!” When I feel better rn than I did at 20
I’ll be 32 on July 2nd, been skating for about 20 years and you guys are definitely my inspiration right now and relate a lot to this. Taking care of your body and mind is mad important and this video proves it. Great video, hope to see more content like this in the future!
I’m 40, and still absolutely LOVE skating!.. honestly I still treat my body like I’m 14 still, and I definitely feel way more sore after skating. But I still push myself all the time. I’ve noticed my skating has definitely changed, and like Spencer said once you stop flipping your board, it gets harder. But I still keep my kickflips and backside flips… I have no plans on stopping till my body actually won’t do it anymore. Lance Mountain put it best…” riding a skateboard doesn’t make you a skater, not being able to stop riding a skateboard makes you a skater.”
Great video!!! Love all the different perspectives. You can always learn and progress, just have to adjust for where you are in life. My progression at 35 looks a lot different than it did at 17.

Closer to 50 than 40 and still skating no warmups and slowly slowly improving and the change happened when single again and started sleeping on a shonky mattress on the floor. Stiff at first, getting up a pain, but I swear after a couple months it makes your body revert to youth. No lady about crash on the floor I swear it does wonders.
26 and just got back on the board a couple months ago, stopped when i was 19 and it definitely hurts my knees more but i'm skating better than i ever have now, i hope i can keep going till im in my 30s
I luckily skate everyday for about an hour. I have a ledge and a curb in my backyard and between those obstacles I can really focus and work on a couple things while still having the kiddos run around. A super luxury I know and grateful for it.
I admit that I feel this embarrassing urge to let younger people know that I used to be good, therefore I should still be viewed as a legit ripper. I have to find a way to ditch that insecurity.
46 here. Is there an age where you should stop doing flip tricks? No. I recently finally landed the 8 basic flip tricks (not in a row of course). I landed my first kickflip when I was 44. Skating as you get older is such an individual thing. I'm loving pushing myself at an appropriate level to my skill and age. But what I pursue on a board is different from another person my age. As long as you're skating and having fun, nothing else really matters. Keep skating (or start today!), keep progressing (even if the progression seems small), and keep having fun. Thanks for this great video and discussion 👍
I started skating when I was like 8. I stopped from 20-32. Then at 33 I landed my first grass kickflip and quit until now(37). Taking 4 years off and my power/flexibility sucks bad.
