This episode brought to you direct from Sketch City! Note to homeowner: next time buy a property large enough to have all the amenities like a well, yard, parking area, etc.
I can tell this was not your first Rodeo, takes skill and experience to figure a work around for these crazy jobs. Another happy customer for the company.
Nothing but mad respect for you and your dad for this one!😮 I’m not sure I could have found a drilling company in North Georgia who would have even tried a job like that! Your engineering end ingenuity is always impressive and inspiring!
I drilled on a pumice float. Very tricky. We used steel surface casing and a swing bit. The bit opens up 3 inches bigger than the casing when it starts to turn and collapses when you reverse. We also drive the casing just behind the swing bit. You need a stuffing box for the casing or get ready for a really dirty ride home or a change of clothes. The proper name for the process is called, ODEX reverse circulation. It's a stupid name and it makes no sense.
My favorite song comes to mind in these kinds of situations; (in the tune of Camptown Races) We're gonna do some sketchy shit, doo da, doo da.... Another awesome video. This reminded me of a job we did recently where we had to drill into the side of a hill(horizontal drilling). The hill was pretty steep, and we had to put lots of cribbing under the back feet to get the bore machine level enough to make the bit level. Fortunately, the ground was soft enough that when we steered the bit, it didn't want to push the machine back. This kind of stuff can be very dangerous, and I'm glad nothing happened to you, your dad, or your rig.
That was very steep slope. I could see a few company's passing on a job like this. That drill truck is a lot of weight to have on the edge of fresh packed fill like that.
LOL Been there the angle and not on fill used a step ladder to get on steps makes things interesting, we are mud rotary ! No envy doing a hole with air and drilling thru all the roots etc.
Great job on keeping that from washing out. I can only imagine the nerves while the rig was out on that fill. Sucks about the cable. I'm just glad you caught it. Hope y'all made it through the storm, ok?
I would have insisted on a concrete retaining wall for mor margin. Especially if i didnt know how and who compacted it. You must have some crazy skills. That's a complement.
My cousin works in oil fields drilling, I showed him some of your videos and he said man those guys are doing what we do with 1/4 the help 😂 he said they use a rotary bit though (I dunno what that is lol)
I probably would have passed on that one lol. They would have had to do a bit more than just dump a couple loads of dirt in there> should have been a retaining wall built to hold everything. Good job on yall's part though.
How could anyone build at THAT hillside. One good storm or a few days/weeks of strong rain that house just slips. Or the hole hill says "Screw this, I´m moving."
Am I weird that if I was going to build a house on land that would require a well I'd have the well punched first? So there would then be water onsite?
😂😂😂NOPE!!! Several hundred thousand dollar machine setting on fresh fill??? Now if that would have been me?? I would’ve told him bring a dozer in cut me a driveway 4 feet down to back him that would only left me with a foot and a half a fill, but I’ve been on solid solid footing 😂😂😂 plus I would’ve been nervous enough that I probably would’ve anchored the drill rig to another truck with a chain for safety. Glad it was you because I would’ve had problems not breathing and holding my breath.😂😂😂 with the mini ?? Only one way to dig blade facing the lake so you can put the blade all the way down and mostly level the machine and basically dig sideways then have to break down move over and start all over serious pain in the butt, but the only other option is to take the mini and dig a level spot and then dig a trench and that’s a lot of backfill afterwards.. but no way I would of chanced myy y drill rig on that much fresh fill but seriously congratulations on a job well done👍
You ever use steel casing on wells down there? Steel casing with pitless adapter is the norm here in Washington. That red clay/dirt reminds me of home 😂
Dude you must have been singing " We are doing some sketchy shit right here, Sketchy shit " Damn your pops almost fell on his Ass, trying to get up that muddy jill, I laughed when he smiled and said "I almost fell on my ass" I was thinking the same thing. The funny thing is I have never seen you shoveling on the cuttings with your head level with the borehole, dang. lol
So, After you dig the well, and before the pump goes in, could they re grade back to the original slope, and then cut the casing off at the new correct height?
Well, at the end, you answered my question. That technique you used worked slick as a whistle. That is the first time I have seen a steel cable with a hernia though.
Why did they want the wheel there? Who chose to put it there? Why would they not have chose you to put the well where it should be? From my point of view, you are the professional and you should have put the well where it belonged.
with the price of that house, they could have afforded a safer?platform for you guys to work from. maybe use interlock stone wall with some reinforcement mesh laid between the rows of blocks and fill. But hey, what do I know???
I hope you are all safe and no damage to you all.Hurricane Helene was just a massive catastrophic disaster never seen by your generation.I pray for you all.
I don’t understand why this couldn’t be move a few feet forward of this steep slope, weird. This was before Helene? Hope the area this is located did better than most.
That was a very sketchy pad to put your rig on. In my opinion it was too close to trouble for a well. Had they excavated down to virgin soil and put the fill in with proper compaction then it wouldn’t have been any trouble. Pre planned jobs are not that difficult! Was that on Kerr lake? Good job! Best Regards Al in Ebony.
@danvisan7017 the septic field was 25ft in front of the rig (the entire driveway is drain field). Yes you must follow the permit. They've complained over 18"s before
Make sure not to install your water appliances too close to the electrical panel, there's code regulations on how close water lines can be to a main disconnect, water on an un-fused main line is not good.
@@ZackFletcher1 It depends on the local area's electrical code, from a quick search it seems about 6 feet above the panel must not have water lines, and possibly about 2ft from the panel horizontally?
This episode brought to you direct from Sketch City! Note to homeowner: next time buy a property large enough to have all the amenities like a well, yard, parking area, etc.
Got dough can buy at Hollywood sq..Santa Barbara etc ..😂😂😅😅

Where’s all your help? You and Dad make a great team. Nice job.

Good grief. That was some job. Total respect to you and your dad, you sure know what you are doing. That sure was a risky one. Thanks all.
That's a well built house, nice job with the well too and not getting washed out.

I’m very happy to stumble upon this channel, you do an excellent job explaining everything you do.
Customer didn’t ask for much did they? “Hey, can you do the impossible?” “Sure, why not. Will make a good UA-cam video.”
10/10
Looking at all the rain wash ruts, That house might be gone with the rain one day.
Need to secure the slope with vegetation at least and some drainage from the top to bypass the slope I think
I love working in the new houses. It gives me ideas for mine.
Ingenious solution to drilling through a big slump. Did the house/well survive the hurricane?
Great job under challenging conditions
LOL Been there the angle and not on fill used a step ladder to get on steps makes things interesting, we are mud rotary ! No envy doing a hole with air and drilling thru all the roots etc.
Is all the drill mud going into the lake?
Good job ! In Maine steel casing is a must, generally short but pressed into granite ledge.
Great job on keeping that from washing out. I can only imagine the nerves while the rig was out on that fill. Sucks about the cable. I'm just glad you caught it. Hope y'all made it through the storm, ok?
I saw it waiting to see the finish grade, and. House water pipe and elect installed.
Good video. Always interested in how you overcome obstacles.
Who would have thought that I could be scared watching a water well drilling operation.
Are you okay after the storm. Did you get hit bad.
@jeffreycouch6175 it went about 100miles west of us. Our lake is extremely full, but no damage here. My heart goes out to those that got hit!
We used to run 36" conductor pipe to 1100' that stuff was heavy 640lbs per foot.
You do a way better job at explaining all this to people 🙏
Awesome work as usual!
Have a good day be safe
Not only would there be a pucker factor, but there would be an additional cost for that extra planning and work, and hazard pay!!!
Definitely the kinda of job where I take a step back because it’s not like the others.
@AWRay1300 Extra costs were added & we visited the site 3 times before we formulated a game plan. We almost said no...but we did it anyways.
Damn that Mechanical room is almost as big as my bedroom lol
Awesome job y’all did

Always a challenge, what fun would it be if it were a simple job!
Dude, You Are Awesome! 👊🏼🫵🏼❤️🙏🏼
Marvelous video. Once again you impress me with your ingenuity.
Wow great video and great Job. you guys rock..
This sounds like a setup like an oil rig with woods mats and plastic under the rig, and then setting conductor casing before the surface casing.
Where’s Mike at he’s a good guy and a pretty good worker

I wonder what they're going to do with the HVAC flex duct running along the ceiling of the basement at an angle.
Yeah, that definitely coulda went from sketch comedy to sketch tragedy real fast, but we got all facts and NO slant with this one 😂
You ever use steel casing on wells down there? Steel casing with pitless adapter is the norm here in Washington. That red clay/dirt reminds me of home 😂
Do you ever use steel casing?
Can you tell me how you join Steel liner to plastic liner and what glue you use please.
Dude you must have been singing " We are doing some sketchy shit right here, Sketchy shit " Damn your pops almost fell on his Ass, trying to get up that muddy jill, I laughed when he smiled and said "I almost fell on my ass" I was thinking the same thing. Makin do, great stuff, retorque them wheels to 500ftlbs
How are those new front tires doing?
So, After you dig the well, and before the pump goes in, could they re grade back to the original slope, and then cut the casing off at the new correct height?
Well, at the end, you answered my question. That technique you used worked slick as a whistle. That is the first time I have seen a steel cable with a hernia though.
What did you use for grout?
Before watching all this, that's a scary setup any way you look at it for a drill rig.
Why couldn't you all put the well in the front yard? Anyway great job with what you had to work with.😊❤
I see you putting new bits on pretty often, and I am curious how many hundreds or thousands of dollars those bits cost, and can they be resharpened?
Some customers are idiots. Bummer on the cable. You rock. 👍
Alway say "Like & Subscribe" !

look up Scout Mat , by spartan composite well worth the money
Is it still there tho after the hurricane took so many homes and lives??
I bet the pucker factor was high the whole job.
with the price of that house, they could have afforded a safer?platform for you guys to work from. maybe use interlock stone wall with some reinforcement mesh laid between the rows of blocks and fill. But hey, what do I know???
Why can’t they pump from the water source / lake /dam behind the house ? In Australia we would pump from that water source
Is that Lake Gaston?
That was a very sketchy pad to put your rig on. In my opinion it was too close to trouble for a well. Had they excavated down to virgin soil and put the fill in with proper compaction then it wouldn’t have been any trouble. Pre planned jobs are not that difficult! Was that on Kerr lake?
Good job! Best Regards Al in Ebony.
Slope not too bad as made out ..exaggerated 20% lol😂😂😂
WHERE IS THE SLOTTED CASING?
they drill in bedrock , water is coming from cracks in the rock?
what do u call a guy with no arms and no legs i a hole phill lol
8:13 that's a Big hole
So you want to live on lake what could possibly go wrong one thing is sure he won't have to try to get a permit for boat dock.
That site work is a disaster waiting to happen.
do you really have to do what the permit is saying? why didn't you do the well in a better spot?
@danvisan7017 the septic field was 25ft in front of the rig (the entire driveway is drain field). Yes you must follow the permit. They've complained over 18"s before
Crap drill pads all suck. Its crazy how air drilling does weird things.
Make sure not to install your water appliances too close to the electrical panel, there's code regulations on how close water lines can be to a main disconnect, water on an un-fused main line is not good.

what was the. man drinking his crazy or what wrong with the idea l have seen crazys things my friend
Looks like you parked in the hood
You got a kinky cable.
JUST SAY NO!
What a stupid place to build a home.
That first step is going to be a duesy coming off platform.
