Spade's stand-up is actually amazing. I loved him on SNL, but then many years later I saw his stand-up and was like "Holy shit...I had no idea." So I understand what he means when he says character-acting on SNL wasn't really his thing. Killing stand-up is his thing. The "Hollywood Minute" segment on SNL was most suited for his talent because it gave him a monologue format like standup.

Everyone is commenting about the terrible sound but I was mostly suffering for David Spade shifting not to feel pain in that uncomfortable chair. He suffers from neck and back problems and half of this talk he was kneeling on the chair. Glad he has comfy armchairs in his Comedy Central show these days. Enjoyed this interview a lot and I’m not a native English speaker so the sound isn’t that bad once you get used to it.

I've always enjoyed David Spade's brand of humor. He was on a sitcom(name I'll come back with), and just as I used to tune n to "Fridays" and "In Living Color" to see Cramer and Carrey, I used to tune in to see Spade's antics. Carvey is also great, I'll have to look up his standup (he may not have any).

    • @gibberconfirm166

Carvey had a couple unlucky career duds in TV and film, but he was like Eddie Murphy-talented on SNL. He still does stand-up. Funniest I've seen him be in recent years were a couple random UA-cam interviews, kind of a shame.

I have gained more respect for Spade. He had a rough childhood growing up. Every child wants desperately to love their parents and for them to love them. When you don't get that it is very difficult. Perhaps he turned to comedy to cope. Good for him.

The more you learn about SNL, the more it becomes clear that SNL is big in spite of Lorne Michaels, not because of him. He stole the idea and cast, originally. Then it took the cast to make the show, ie; Joe Piscopo fought to get Eddie Murphy air time when the show was about to get pulled off the air. Dana and that class were just incredible, again reviving a show that was about to get pulled. Then he watches all the remaining talent left walk, one by one to go on to much bigger and much better things, but by now it's an icon and it is the least funniest thing you could watch for like a decade now.

I always liked Dana.. his comedy has always been obvious and in your face funny. David Spade however, has this dry sarcasm and witt about him and his comedy ian't always so obvious. I think it's way funnier when a comedian doesn't look like he's working the audience for laughs. Spade is definitely one of my favorites.

That was awesome !!! These guys are my age and I’ve pretty much followed there careers. I felt like I’ve lived it with them or through them either way I wish it was longer. Good stuff.
