FREEZING Winter Wild Camp in SCOTLAND

- In this video, myself along with a couple of friends travel up to Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands. We stayed in a hotel in Drymen on Friday night and then travelled the rest of the way up to Glencoe in the morning. We planned to camp on Beinn a’ Chrulaiste which is a small Corbett overlooking the Glencoe valley. I have camped here before on many occasions but I just thought it would be good to document this spot on the channel. The walk started from a small car park just off the A82 where we followed a roadside path to the base of Beinn a’ Chrulaiste. After about 20 minutes of hiking, we were greeted with the views down into the valley in full winter mode. After demolishing some food, we settled in for the night only to be greeted with zero views in the morning. After thinking we would be walking down in the cloud, the valley eventually started to clear which opened up the views of the valley again. Unfortunately, we had to make our way back down to the car ready to tackle the five and a half hour drive home. The views down into the Glencoe valley just seem to get better and better in my opinion, especially during the winter. I could NEVER get bored of that view. What a place. I hope you enjoyed watching the video just as much as I enjoyed making it and I will catch you on the next adventure.

Well done guys, nice work, take care
Thanks for the comment mate, really appreciate it. ATB.
Enjoy your video 👍
Thanks for the support and I’m glad you enjoyed the video mate. ATB.
Indeed, you can't beat it. The drone footage is epic. Stay safe !
Thanks for watching mate, really appreciate it.
Nice one, the more I see of that storm star the more I like it. The inner looks good and taught and let's talk about the pockets, "bang tidy". Enjoying the vids and drone shots👍
Thanks for the support mate, really appreciate it. It’s a phenomenal tent. For the price I got it at, I don’t think it can be beaten to be honest. Even at the original price, it’s a very good tent. ATB.
Some of the shots you’ve captured here are magical, it was by pure chance I found this channel but I’m glad I did! Will be sticking around for future videos
Really appreciate the support mate. There’s going to be a lot more to come especially up in Scotland and even abroad in places like the Alps. Can’t wait to share more of my trips mate.
Fantastic video and conditions 👍🙂❄️
Thanks for the comment mate and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. ATB Tom.
@tomphythian 🙂👍
Great watch Tom ,it’s inspiring to watch your journey on social platforms ,love your photos/reels and great videos on UA-cam
It really means a lot that mate. Got some big trips to come in the future so keep a lookout for those.
@ looking forward to seeing them mate 😮
Really good video, with some cracking drone footage. I loved the part where you're saying it's about -4 and your mate is still in just a T-shirt! Subbed.
Thanks for supporting the channel mate. When you’re on the move, you build up that much body heat that you can walk in just a t-shirt most of the time until you stop and then it starts to get cold.
Fantastic winter camp.
Thanks for watching mate and I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Looked a good camp, can't beat camping in the snow👍🏴🏕🏔👌
Thanks for the comment mate. You aren’t wrong, they’re the best conditions to camp in.
@tomphythian Defo 👍❄️🏔🧊🏕👌
Wow mate that drone footage gave me the feels! Epic video as always. Sticking out some solid content here lad! 🔥 The Kuiu’s looking great man, those conditions had us in solid condensation mode too haha. Keep them coming mate ATB 👌🏼
There’s going to be a lot more to come mate. They were prime conditions for condensation, the tent was full of it in the morning. Thanks for the support as always mate.
An awesome video Tom, good stuff three keen boys working as a team and having a blast on a snow covered mountain
The drone shots are spectacular mate, what a new perspective them things have opened up for the outdoor adventurers, really give a relatable view of the environment
Haha you didn't need tents, just whip up an igloo to camp in
Watching from New Zealand ... liked and sub'd
Thanks for supporting the channel mate, I really appreciate it. I’ve had a drone for years now and it’s easily been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It definitely comes in handy when trying to capture a different perspective for people, especially now I’ve started a channel. ATB Tom.
Looked a good trip this pal and some fine drone shots 🔥, I quite like the tent too
Appreciate the support brother, thanks for watching. I’ll bring the tent when we organise a camp so you can have a look at it mate. Very impressed with it so far, I can see myself using it a lot in years to come for sure.
Another good video tom. Some great footage from the drone
Thanks for the continued support mate, appreciate it.
I believe we passed you going up as we were coming down on Saturday. If only you camped there Friday evening you would have got an awesome pre sunrise sky up there on Saturday morning. There is always next time 😀
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video mate. I’ve camped there quite a few times and got every sort of conditions you could imagine whilst being up there so I didn’t mind to be honest mate. The last time I camped there we got a really good sunset and sunrise. I’m actually glad the conditions were different this time to be fair. I just wanted to document that spot on the channel that’s all.
I camped up there the night before same spot and can confirm the sunset and especially the sunrise was amazing
@@adventure_steve_hikes Yeah, I was there a little over an hour before sunrise for photography and the sky was awesome right through to just after sunrise.
Great video Tom👍 I've been familiar with you from your Facebook posts for a while now but it's great to see you finding your way around the opposite end of the camera. Enjoying your calm approach and the drone footage is awesome. Love the tent, recently bought one myself and was surprised to see you with one since you love the soulo so much but it's such a good tent for the money it's no wonder it's becoming so popular. Keep enjoying the mountains and I look forward to seeing more from your channel. Atb👍
First of all, I really appreciate the support mate. It means a lot especially with me only just starting a channel, it’s good to see so many people interested in the videos and commenting. I absolutely love the Hilleberg Soulo but the KUIU Storm Star is unrivalled for the price I paid for it, I’m very impressed. There’s going to be a lot more to come mate so make sure you keep a lookout for all the trips coming up as I’ll be documenting it all on the channel. ATB Tom.
@tomphythian Can see in your vids how excided you are to get more vids out there..looking forward to them. 👍 I want to ask...did you keep vents and inner doors closed on this camp?...I've only tested mine on a campsite with everything closed and a damp dog inside with me...was 0.7C outside and 7.0C inside the tent, so it's a warm tent and as a result I noticed quite a bit of condensation on the inner...it's to be expected with such a temperature difference and I was testing for fully hunkered down scenarios...just wondered what experience you had?..Not a lot of people to ask with this tent and I've no experience with a hilleberg..Hope you don't mind me asking mate.
@@leepark6855 I had all the vents open as well as the doors unzipped slightly and still got loads of condensation mate. You just have to manage condensation as best you can because if the conditions are right, you’re always going to get condensation. It doesn’t matter how many vents you have open or what tent you’re in, if the conditions are right, condensation is always going to be there.
Cracking video mate 👍
Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing drone shots 😍
Thanks Emma, really appreciate the support. ATB Tom.
Major winter scenes man , tent looks a beast too! 🔥
The more snow the better mate. I can’t tell you how happy I am with the tent, it’s absolutely solid and very well made so for £410 it’s an absolute bargain. Taking the footprint off it though because it’s annoying me already.
Another class video mate. Drone footage is 🔥
Thanks for the continued support mate. You can always count on me for some good drone footage. What a place it is mate.
Cracking video Tom. Keep em coming. Safe trails
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video mate. There’s going to be a lot more stuff to come for sure so lookout for it all.
Looks freezing but super epic!
It wasn’t that bad to be honest mate. However, the windchill was a bit nippy which made us retreat to the tents pretty quickly. Can’t beat it up in Scotland, especially in winter. Thanks for the support mate.
Just stumbled upon your channel mate and just liked the vid and subscribed, great video 👍 that scenery is epic with great drone shots. Love the Kuiu storm star it’s in our basket ready to buy it 😊 all the best, Simon & Mark Twin Peaks Outdoors
First of all, thanks for the support mate. Was it you I was speaking to on facebook the other day talking about the KUIU Storm Star?
@@tomphythian it’s very possible mate 👍
@ yes it was you mate 😀👍
@@Twin_Peaks_Outdoors Just subbed to your channel mate as I’ve seen your videos before on my other account but thought I’d subscribe again on this account. Yeah, the KUIU Storm Star is a phenomenal tent and I think it’s going to be my primary shelter for the winter going forward. I’ll save my Hilleberg Soulo for if I go anywhere where there isn’t much space to pitch or anywhere that I’m not familiar with because it’s the perfect tent for that. Got a really good combination of tents now with the KUIU and Soulo though.
@@tomphythian thanks mate 👍 we are doing pen yr ole wen on Saturday, we noticed you recently camped on there. Gonna check out your video 👍
Drone shots never fail to impress epic music to accompany top work
Thanks for watching the video mate. You can’t beat Scotland when it’s covered in snow.
Smashing it man, top video 🏴👍
Thanks for the support and for joining me on the trip mate. We’ll definitely get another trip sorted out for next month. Enjoyed every minute mate.
Great Video, i'm looking to get myself a storm star soon, can i ask how you got it so cheap?
I got it over Christmas using a Boxing Day discount code. That’s why I couldn’t resist buying one at that price. I think they’re going up in price now as well so you probably won’t find them for that price again.
@@tomphythian ah i seen that boxing day code and tried it later on, on boxing day and it was inactive! Just missed out.
I forgot to ask on my last comment. What are spikes that you were using? They looked really good. Cheers.
I was using the Grivel micro spikes. Definitely size up if you’re looking at getting a pair though, they’re a really small/tight fitting. I went for an XL and I’m a size 9/10.
World class that mate. Which drone do you use? Shots were incredible
First of all, thanks for the support mate. Some of your videos look good, going to give them a watch tonight. I use the DJI Air 2s which is probably the best bang for buck drone on the market because it just does everything very well in my opinion. I got it for a bargain as well so I can’t really complain. It’s one of the older models now but it still very much holds it’s own against all the recent models.
What hill are you on?
Beinn a'Chrulaiste
Why as he only got a orange t shirt on omg
When you’re on the move, you do build up quite a lot of body heat which keeps you warm until you stop and then it becomes an issue, especially with windchill. I rarely just wear a t-shirt in winter, I’m always wearing at least a baselayer combined with a mid layer unless it’s really mild and the sun is out. Thanks for the commenting mate. ATB.
Ermmm. You can't beat Scotland.
Bloody love it mate
