As an American, I don't see how it could be easy. There are just so many cultural differences. However, being principled is universal. So, in that, a principled person should be able to succeed as HRH Catherine has proven it possible.
Having been an aide-de-camp I know that the staff is expected to put in as much effort as required to make every event effortless for the principal(s). One needs to remain alert without appearing so. Staff members who meet with the public must always remain civil as well as situationally aware should anything start to go sideways. Everything that a staff member does including appropriate and well cared for attire will reflect upon the principal's reputation. Everyone selected for a position of this sensitivity will be thoroughly vetted and briefed as to what will be expected of them for each event.
Good for William and Kate. While maintaining tradition, they are modernizing and applying flexibility to the often rigid structure of royal life without tearing down their family or former rulers
There is precedent in William’s life for a more casual RF. He spent several summers with the Spanish RF with his parents and they are reported to be more relaxed & tactile.
I had a 'chat sofa' in my home, when my children were growing up. All it took was a "I'm disappointed in....." for the matter to be sorted, the child apologising and rarely, if ever doing whatever it was again. They're now in their 30s and use the same method with their children.
The whole "dead fly" test reminds me of my father putting something out of place just to see how long it would take my mother to notice and correct it, making fun of her or worse if it took longer than he thought it should. Today that would be considered a form of mental/physical abuse.
The difference being the dead fly-housekeeper test is related to employment which is highly detail oriented; it seems reasonable to me as a way of differentiating amongst similar qualified candidates.
