    I have OCD when it comes to ensuring the clip ons are set perfect with no differences side to side. I’ve used soft tape measures, protractors, etc to measure and adjust. The easiest way I have found to ensure they’re even is simple. Once I believe I’m close with eyeing and a rough measurement, I turn the bars to full lock. I then measure the clearance between the closest grip and a point on the tank, side fairing or one of the gas tank lid bolts. Set that clip on. Turn bars and repeat on other side. Fastest way that I have found to ensure the angle of the clip ons are spot on. Can be fixed easily and quickly after a tip over or a crash. No protractor, multi measuring points or overpriced motionpro tool needed. I know how to do this but I enjoy and watch your videos anyways.

      I have a super nice tool that slides over the fork tubes and uses alignment pins on both sides which I will use when I dial these in all the way. Like you this is something I will spend a lot of time on to make sure they are as even as possible. This video ran so long we had to leave a little out. - Van

    wow I never knew the OEM clip on bar had those holes in the bar. I've never changed one out before. Glad to have the tools needed on hand already. thanks for the detail. ALSO i used a 27mm socket for the top triple clamp bolt

    Hey Brian! Great video, very informative. I had to replace a handlebar (went with oem for a few reasons) due to a crash last year.
    Do you know if there's a reason why partzilla/other sites don't make mention of the smaller washer that sites in the triple tree indent? I had a small panic attack when reassembling, as the schematics & breakdowns never mention it. Luckily reinstalled everything right the first time but it's kind of odd where only the big thick washer under the nut is referenced.
    Mostly commenting in case any other DIYers come across it. would be a bad thing to misplace it as I didn't originally see a part number for it

      We do not offer any OEM parts here so I am not super familiar with the system other sites use to catalog those parts. Sounds like there is an error in the listing. - Van

    • @ThatDiabetiKGuy
      @ThatDiabetiKGuy Рік тому

      Are you talking about in the center of the triple? If so, I'm pretty sure that's there for the nut to sit and hold it to the steering shaft/column instead of having the nut twisting against the surface of the tree (like most other applications using a nut to hold stuff down - there to prevent it coming undone from vibrations)
      If you mean something else, well just ignore what I mentioned 😅

    If I was switching out my brake lines to non abs steel braided lines, would you install the aftermarket clip ons before or after the steel braided lines? Thanks

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  6 місяців тому

      You can use them with either the OEM bars or an aftermarket set. Do what makes the most sense for you. The aftermarket do not change the bar position enough to impact the brake line fit. - Van

    • @sportbiketrackgear

      The bars will be a little lower, a little further forward and can be set wider than the OEM. IMO this is an improvement in the ergos for the R7. - Van

    Hi Brian, planning to install riser-type clip ons on my R7. What do you think is the highest I can go until the bars start interfering with the windscreen?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  Рік тому +2

      I have not tried to install any on the R7 and do not think you would be able to raise them much without creating an issue. I am including a link to a guide Woodcraft has developed to help determine if they will fit below:

    Van, can you do a video on alignment? I had a small crash, slipped out on a cold new tire..looking to replace my clipons which is why im here, however i did notice that my triple tree does not sit parallel to the front of the tank cover... I took it to a shop to get it looked at and they said the alignment was off a tiny bit and they adjusted it. When i got it back, it still doesn't sit parallel to the front of the tank... is this something an amateur can do themselves?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  9 місяців тому

      It is possible for the top triple clamp to come out of alignment with the lower during a crash. Assuming no parts are bent (typically not in a small crash) you can realign this as follows:
      1) Remove the front forks
      2) Loosen the steering stem nut so the top triple can rotate (only loosen enough so it can move)
      3) Slide the front forks through the triples and torque the lower triple clamp once you have the fork height set on both sides
      4) Torque the top triple clamp pinch bolts
      5) Torque the steering stem nut
      6) Loosen the top triple clamp pinch bolts on both sides then retorque them
      Reassemble everything and take the bike for a ride. If the front end is not straight you most likely have a bent fork or triple. - Van

    Can you recommend raised handle bars for R7 that fits without issues? 🤔

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  11 місяців тому

      Due to the location of the top clamp pinch bolts the traditional riser clip ons are most likely a no go. That said Woodcraft offers a side mount riser set that MAY work. These would most likely require a new set of brake lines and a relocation of the brake reservoir. End of the day this would need to be a project you are committed to with the understanding some further modification may be required. Here is a link to those risers on our site:
