Was anyone else severely uncomfortable with The Deep and his gill scene.

Isn't it kinda sad that the big budget movies colossally failed at capturing this dynamic correctly? I felt like homelander was on a leash this season(kinda was), and he still was the scariest SOB to be around.
One can only hope, that he proves everyone wrong and actually helps, because if not, then it's going to get ugly, which I am expecting it too. Homelander has some serious issues to deal with lmao.

In the comics the plane was the one headed for the second tower and the corporation convinces the military to let Homelander handle it but he messes up badly

I just loved how terrifying Anthony Starr was. Every time he was on screen I was afraid he would snap and break a baby's neck or rip someone in half with his eyes.

Homelander is one of the most disturbing villains I have seen on a show. Just makes my skin crawl. A great point I discussed with my friend was Homelander basically embodies everything Lex Luthor views in Superman. Like Lex feels like this is what Superman is like/capable of and it makes his skin crawl. Extremely disturbing and the way the public worships him. Hahaha I definitely have a new understanding of Lex.

Homelander is practically based on the Injustice Superman or any darker incarnation of the character. But yes you're correct in reality if superheroes were real?, this is exactly what Lex Luthor views about Superman whether he's flipped or not. He's possibly capable of doing this one day! That and Luthor envy's Superman's powers anyways!

So yeah i'll let you have that one, but please keep in mind though that Evil versions of Superman like Ultraman of the Crime Syndicate in the comics? The Plutonian from the; "Irredeemable" comic book series. Or even the twisted version of Superman in Superman III from 1983 film. All ofwhom have existed way before Homelander in The Boys alright!
I only used the Injustice Superman reference as an example so don't take it too much to heart about whom was created first alright! Homelander isn't outright based on him per se but the concept of a dark twisted Superman was around way before The Boys comic book series however! And in that respect Homelander can still easily be seen like an Injustice Superman far as examples go.
The Boys is a brand new thing and just got a series man. A year ago nobody here would even friggin know who the hell Homelander was not until he was adapted for a TV show?!

This is first time i can say that a character in a show literally made me uncomfortable n nervous everytime he was on screen. Everytime Homelander was on screen i got very uncomfortable n never knew which direction he was going.

They show managed to make homelander the coolest looking and most evil hero ever at the same time.
That Homelander scene reminded me of Superman killing Shazam in Injustice.
Only Shazam was a super-powered mega kid and Stillwell was just a "normal" human being.
And the bit where he puts his hand through the shooter’s chest like the joker at the beginning of injustice

No, despite Hugh Jackman's fantastic acting as Wolverine, he never really looked like Wolverine. Jackman is tall and conventionally handsome whereas Wolverine is neither. Besides the future of the MCU isn't looking so bright anyway.

Finally! I have to admit, Homelander is the best evil Superman I've seen so far. Better than both Injustice and Brightburn.

You should look him up in his early stuff. Hes a crack up in Outrageous Fortune. He plays twin brothers. Ones a crooked lawyer and the other is a total fuck up

The Deep failing miserably, at saving aquatic life needs to be a running gag. The scenes with the lobster and dolphin had me crying, cause I was laughing so hard.

lol Love how AJ says "no spoilers" only after he spoils the most SHOCKING moment of ep 1, which involves A-Train and a ton of blood 😅 On a side note, what the hell was Alex talking about? OF COURSE Homelander saved Butcher out of spite. Homelander would kill someone if they farted near him, so the fact that he didnt kill Butcher, but he actually SAVED his life, was all to torture him a bit more. Just to show him that not only did he bone his wife, but she left him to go raise Homelander's kid. That's messed up. lol
How is that even remotely a spoiler? That scene shows up literally less than 20 seconds into the very first trailer they released for the series.
I actually saw the ending as a good thing. Both Butcher and Homelander were misled about the truth of the Woman and her son. I saw it as Homelander discovering the truth and figuring out the reason behind Butchers hatred and solving both issues by showing him that his wife is alive.
@@Astraeus.. most people avoid trailers for that very reason. Thank god I had no idea what was gonna happen and I was properly shocked just like the show creators intended me to be.
@@xodus2580 because butcher didnt fear homelander like most do. So killing him isnt as impactful as showing him the truth which he just learned as well.
I think it's more calculated than that. Assuming that he didn't rape Becca, he probably thinks that Butcher doesn't have any further reason to be mad at him, cause yeah, your wife cheated on me, but that was nearly a decade ago - the real dicks are the people who lied to both of us about her death. Personally, I think he did it as a contingency plan to use Butcher against Voight.
I think that'll misfire spectacularly, but I seriously think Homelander doesn't understand that Butcher is still gonna hate him.

Have you watched The Last Kingdom on Netflix? It's basically what the later seasons of Game Of Thrones and Vikings wishes it could be. It's incredible man.

It deals with the same subject matter as Vikings, but it has the great writing, characters, and intrigue that was lacking in the later seasons of Game Of Thrones and Vikings. It's not as good as the first four seasons of Game Of Thrones, but it's a better all around show than Vikings. IMO.

I like that they did more with the character than just use him as a visual joke. Also allowed them to keep Starlight's arc intact while making Homelander's more mysterious and twistier.

Other than the fact that the words lamp and lantern can be, more or less, used interchangeably for a real object, the 2 characters are not even remotely similar. One has a ring that allows the creation of near limitless energy constructs through strength of will. The other burns stuff.
Lord Megatron according to Creator of The Boys Lamp Lighter’s powers were Pyrokenisis flight and his lamp can absorb flames that he can dispel anytime he wants like Dumbledore’s lighter

The Preacher is maybe toned down compared to its comics, but it is gorier than The Boys.

Preacher is phenomenal, I hope that it gets a boost after this show become even more successful. Saint of Killers is portrayed perfectly as well as Arsface.

The Expanse (need to get into it moreso however?), Hanna, The Man In High Castle, The Gifted, Umbrella Academy, Stranger Things,Doom Patrol, Krypton, Wayne and The Punisher season 2 were the best shows of this year i reckon!

The Deep turned out to be my favorite of the Seven. The entire time he's always talking about cleaning up the oceans and saving marine mammals, but no one takes him seriously. It is a really interesting example of how the culture of Vought is filled with abuse. I'm not saying what he did is justified. I think it shows Starlight's character, The Deep most likely took a few metaphorical dongs himself, just like everyone who isn't Homelander. But again, instead of going with this flow of abuse, Starlight resists. Still, just the day-to-day with The Deep made him grow even more on me. AS A SIDENOTE! Homelander and Brandon make me like Superman even more. Superman's best stories are about him questioning his own morality. Something his gritty clones don't do.
I'd wish Alex would speak up more and give his view, it's often a counter point and invites discussion.

I went into the show knowing nothing about it. based solely on a recommendation from my cousin.

I've read the graphic novel and Black Noir is a way bigger character than he appears to be right now.

Joe doesn't understand this is an anti-hero story, where an hero vs hero fight leads to someone dying, not like in a marvel movie where heroes never die, and only the bad guy get their asses kicked. In the boys the fighting is something hyped up, and when starlight fights A-Train you know it's something important. If you overstuff fightings in a show people won't care about it anymore in 4 episodes.
The story and the character drives the show. The whole point is that the superheroes are so indestructible that the only way to beat them is outsmarting them.
Agreed. Plus, this is non-powered anti-heroes vs superpowered villains; the whole point is that they can't win in a straight fight.

I get what you mean. I love the comic but it's far a more mean spirited, nasty story compared to this. And I like them both for what they do.

What I love the most about this show is how many layers it has.
This is masterful writing. Layers to each character, to their motives, it’s one of those shows you can rewatch again, to understand characters perspectives.
UA-camrs can produce a lot of content surrounding this series. Which will in turn act as free advertising, hopefully meaning the 2nd vision will have an even bigger budget.
This show had great humour, heart felt moments, shocks and meditative moments as well.
Honestly I thought this may be ok, but this series ended up being unimaginably better than I thought it would.
Homelander too, wow, what a villain. Captivates every seen. 1 of the best villains I’ve seen in media.

Yea it's the only other Amazon show I watch. Here's to hoping the budget didn't take too big of a hit for the new season. You'd think they'd be able to expand the budget with how much money Amazon makes.

I think AJ and Alex would really enjoy The Expanse series. It's now one of my favorite Sci Fi series and has some great hard science like Star Trek. I've been getting into the books which are very well written.
The Expanse is phenomenal, I would say best sci fi show of this decade.
I really like Amazon series and would like to recommend The Expanse (was on SyFy and now on Amazon) also Marvelous Ms Maisel, as well as Jack Rayan are all really good as well.

He did a lot more in Season 2 compared to 1. Like Alexander said, he killed the supe terrorist Naqib and then hunted down The Boys. Then he fought with Starlight towards the end, before getting crippled by Queen Maeve.

I loved "The Boys" easily my favorite super hero show ever. It was pretty much everything I've ever wanted in a superhero show, it felt so real. Like that's how real superheroes would be. But, I don't agree that the Asian girl was a badass. Sure she was able to easily kill a lot of "normal" people, but she got her ass swiftly kicked both times she went up against superheroes. Black Noir handedly took her out, and A-Train put her through a concrete wall, then proceeded to bash her brains in. The only reason A-Train didn't kill her, is because Frenchie saved her ass.
I really really really wish they would give the boys powers like they did in the comics. It would add layers, not take away.
