Ironically I made my own video of this a few weeks back, and look what made number one here and there, haha!
You and wacthmojo finally agree on something? That'll be true if wacthmojo actually choose the listed content for they're videos and not the fans who visit they're website...... :P
MF Doctor Doom The way I feel about Chrono Trigger and Suikoden 2; I also get that feeling from The Witcher 3. I strongly recommend if you haven't already. And if you haven't; play the whole trilogy, not just the 3rd(though the 3rd is by farrrrrrrrr the best).
+Jayden S The part where there was... Remember that weird other-dimension world (forgot whats called)? But apparently, the first time got there, Crono and crew instantly made some sort of scene (forgot that too) and now -- they forced me to stay away from that place and dimension with this weird crystal (again, I forgot about it)... Now, my auest is to find a way TO GET BACK to that place... By force.
Totally agree. Can't trust Square-enix for this, thought they do decent games when they are not FF, still decent and masterpieces as chrono triger is are too far from each other.
Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. Say what you will (and many already have) but this is about as solid a list as anybody could ask for from watchmojo.
On the opinion part I couldn't agree more. All these people trying to state a game is "shit" like it's fact because they believe it. There are a lot of games that I don't like, but if someone else likes them, more power to them. Like I don't like sports games, doesn't make them bad, just not my thing.
Chrono Trigger shaped me as who i am. It really did helped me overcome the challenges in my life. And i learned that time is important, so we must spend most of our time with our love ones, because time is gradually fading.
I loved FFVI but was always more impacted emotionally by FFIV. Everyone always forgets Chrono Cross which despite not being as good as Chrono Trigger, is still awesome in it's own way. Dragon Quest V is my favorite. Amazing story :)
Totally with you on the chrono cross thing. I think, maybe, because it may have dragged on at certain points and then immediately rushes to an insanely packed final portion of the game. Just one man’s opinion. Still a great game!
+Kim Doan The game is shit is does not deserve to be in the top 1000 let alone number 1 of any sort of list. There is NOTHING remotely good about Chrono Trigger. The story sucks, the characters are terrible the music grates after a minute, the poor conceived location, the horrible battle system. There is truly NOTHING good about the game period.. Grossly overrated and stupid people praise this shit really boggles the mind. Same can be said for FF6 and the Evermore series there also grossly overrated.
+barry wallace have you fully played the game its great while best game ever is over the top i defenitly think it was one of the better jrpgs of the time
Brad Lemmon Yes I played till the end and got all endings. The game is total shit period. It was actually a chore to play. Nothing good about it what so ever.
@@urekmazino6800 Dragon Quest made Persona? I don't think Dragon Quest has any relations to Persona. Didn't SMT and Jojo's Bizzare Adventure make Persona? And what Dragon Quest/Persona soundtrack are you even talking about?
Deadpool So wait majority of people is everyone? For one I don´t even like skyrim at all or any elder scroll game or any dragon age and I played both for more than 30h so your everyone argument already falls apart...
Dreamcast actually had some of the best JRPG's ever made for it's short life cycle, skies of arcadia, grandia II, phantasy star online, and shenmue if you want to count that as an JRPG.
Lost Odyssey, probably the most underrated JRPG of all time. Wish it was bron with 'Final Fantasy' name, it would've been the best of all. You guys should check that game, certainly one of the best I've ever played.
+Danielviomusic It was released on the wrong console imho. Xbox isn't exactly the number one brand to market JRPGS on. It would have had better success on the PS3 I think.
Danielviomusic Along with Persona 4 Golden, and The Last Story it's the only JRPG I've really enjoyed since beating Final Fantasy 10. Unless you count the Souls games as JRPGS.
I own and played several times the Kaim Chronicles, the story is awesome, but the battles and magic are the worst! boring as hell! even eternal sonata has better fights, to me the great absence is Breath Of Fire II, but if i was gonna choose between the ps ones, I would have chosen IV
@@Oliver-hd5fk i didn't say anything about nostalgia, so the goggles are off. You can assume they're on to fit your narrative, if you want..that's up to you. I just think it's just a better game/experience at its core
HitomiNoRyu Not sure if you or anyone remembers this one, but Wild Arms was a great JRPG. The story had me going non-stop and the combat was amazing. Plus the score was epic!
In my opinion DQ8 was the 5th best game in the series. It's above 1239, but below 4567. My favorite was DQ7. It's one of the longest and most involved JRPGs I have ever played. There is so much content to dq7 and all of it is plot driven and unique. It came out at a weird time however and very few people played it. It was a 2d jrpg at the time 3D jrpgs were just becoming developed. It was completely overshadowed by FF7, and the like. The flavor was too old to be popular and not old enough to be retro.
As a classic JRPG game (NES, SNES), I have something to say that might upset some people, but it's just my opinion. I always said Chrono Trigger was the best RPG of all times... until I played Suikoden II... That game is just FANTASTIC.
@@poofypeanut0221 no, it's switch only, sorry. It really sucks, but other dragon quest games on PS4 include spin offs. Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest Builders 2 (both are a fusion of Minecraft and dragon quest: very charming), Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes 2 (dynasty-warriors style hack and slash: really engrossing and fun). If you want any other recommendations, feel free to ask :D I love this series
Quinton Williams If so, then why the hell aren't the videos called "Top 10 ______ according to popular opinion"? Titled the way they are would naturally lead anyone to believe that the opinions being expressed are those of the presenter, in this case, WatchMojo and their staff. I hate misleading video titles.
Fans will forever debate which JRPG is the best (or worst), but one thing is undeniable...the genre itself has produced some of the finest and most memorable games in history. JRPGs > all other genres.
Im trying to play it right now. But I also need to play Chrono Trigger & FF 3...So many games I missed back in the day! I just beat Super Castlevania & Gradius 3. Its kinda cool playing these games now! I really liked the first Suikoden so Im sure 2 is just as good!
People always forget about this one because it wasn't Square, who basically ruled the world at that time. But it's so good. I still prefer Xenogears and FFIX, but it's absolutely fantastic. Dear Chrono Cross...this is how you do a ton of playable characters RIGHT.
Kinda disappointed Blue Dragon isn't getting any love. That's my favorite RPG on the Xbox 360, along with Tales Of Vesperia and Star Ocean: The Last Hope. I still remember thinking how Nene was pure evil, and I had to stop him. Such a great game.
I've actually been wondering about Blue Dragon being on no lists, thought I made it up. but then same with Arc the Lad, and on most vids Legend of Dragoon, I mean there are too many great games that get passed over for the bigger names
I would say that overall, it isn't too bad of a list. It just isn't complete without a Tales game. Tales is one of the best JRPG franchises out there (this isn't even an opinion anymore), and not only is it left of the list, it doesn't even get a honorable mention. You just can't do that. I agree with most of the listings (though I am getting tired of Chrono Trigger every time, despite it being a good game), but the lack of Tales dissapoints me massively. And I know a good amount of people agree with me.
I got a JRPG called Growlanser 2 the sense of justice for PS2 by accident once but I really loved that game, it's like one of the most underrated games ever imo lol. Does anyone in this comment section ever heard of it?
Growlanser is a more strategic game like final fantasy tactics and therefore not on this list. PS2 was great and many titltes just under the radar... Legend of Dragon, Disgea, Grandia2, Hexcy Force etc.

WatchMojo.com I would have put Suikoden IV, Grandia 2, and one of the Golden Sun games on the list over Secret of Mana or Earthbound. Also Is Xenoblade should have been on instead of Xenogear because it improved on Xenogear. Also I am surprised ANY of the Tales of games did not make the list.
@Lon Hixson I was born in 1980. I am in no way a millenial. But thanks for sharing your totally elite and not at all incorrect opinions. Odds are that you're the actual millenial here.
Andy Jenkins ToS has its own merits. That game revitalized the tales series, and was one of the best rpgs for the GC (well....GC had few rpgs). Those are the main reasons of why many people love that game
+Asch-kun well tales series are really good but I wont consider them JRPGs of all time... if you play the game more than 3x its boring already unlike the games mentioned here.. I played Chrono Trigger more than 10x surely more than that. even played Xenogears more than 25x AND IT IS STILL NOT Boring. this game is even better worth playing over and over again than Final Fantasy series (both are from SquareEnix/Squaresoft)
Asch-kun that is why its not on the list.. the games listed here are just awesome and if you play them again and over and over and over..you just don't get bored playing it..
Rinkitori Rataki It is a JRPG. It just didn't make the list. Tales is far more JRPG than Kingdom Hearts; KH is more of a hack and slash with JRPG elements.
Randy Abarca the only time I ever played chrono trigger was on DS and it was the best JRPG I had ever played. I’m gonna go back to the ds version of CT after playing DQ11 and 8 to see if CT is still tops. Either way my dude Yuji Horii is the man for writing all these gems.
Saying KH has better story than tales games...nice troll comment. KH is one of the most overrated games ever. Also Secret of Mana aged really bad and should not be here aswell. As for the other games i agree they are one of the best. Chrono Cross should get an honorable mention at least tho, this is such a great game.
I agree the best Tales game is better than the best Kingdom Hearts or best Breath of Fire game, but that still just gets it an honorable mention at best.
I ok I agree with having the top two as Final Fantasy 6 and CHRONO Trigger. Spoiler alert# The fact that half way through FF6 the villian Kefka wins and succeeds in destroying the world has got one of the most Holy Fucking Shit moments in gaming, and Kefka himself to call him Final Fantasy’s most frightening and Sadistic villain is putting it lightly. I genuinely believe that CHRONO Trigger is the best game ever made, simply because there’s nothing else like it. It’s visual asthetic and it’s scope and storyline unlike any other video game that I’ve played. And 14 different endings in a Jrpg is huge, the fucking balls on that game to do something so innovative. What happened to the Square Enix that was willing take huge narrative risks like that, those guys are fucking legends. honestly I wish they would’ve remade CHRONO Trigger instead of FF7.
People who say Xenoblade and or Xenosaga are better than Xenogears has either never played Xenogears, or never cared to pay attention to its story. Xenogears is superior in terms of having such a grand story and amazing character development and great turned based battling! Xenogears story is very depressing and quite complex. If you play the game and delve into the lore, it's like a 60+ hour long game at the least.

5:52 Dragon Warrior franchise? Just because it's was the first one to be called dragon quest in the US does not mean that the series isn't Dragon Quest.
Yugen Animations Those two seem to be the most beloved by the community. I think VIII got the spot due to thoughtless combat until you reach the end in V.
My favorite is: Breath Of Fire III Breat Of Fire IV Chrono Cross Chrono Trigger Final Fantasy VI Final Fantasy IV Kingdom Hearts Legend of Dragoon Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria Xenogears
Jude David Yeah, its pretty obvious. I knew right from the start that Chrono Trigger and FF6 would probably be 1-2. I was thinking it'd be nice of Lufia II or Golden Sun got mentioned, but after seeing Suikoden II at 9, I knew they wouldn't be on the list.
Legend of dragoon is way better than most of the games on this list, and I have to say the .hack games are as well. Whomever made this list doesn't have an expansive enough knowledge of the genre to merit this list to be a reliable.
I just beat Crono Trigger again after years of not touching it. And manage to beat the time eclipse for the first time, something I should of done in 2008.... The game is just beautiful... It reminds me of Resident Evil 4 the new game plus to attain everything, but Crono goes far beyond because you actually do want to get all 13 endings.
+Tyrius Wolfe Kingdom Hearts 2 is awful though, they took what was fun about the first game and made it unfun... worlds are linear and boring, combat is nothing but mashing X and triangle, the simple story became a huge mess.
+Tyrius Wolfe I disagree, but I can understand why some prefer KH2. A more robust battle system and a really satisfying gameplay made the series much more focused. However, KH1's plot is much simpler and enjoyable, the worlds are more colorful and exploration feels so satisfying. From the tiny secrets in Traverse Town like lighting the candles or the paintings puzzle to the most memorable ones like the Tarzan world or Hollow Bastion, the game is filled with content... good content, with a variety unseen in almost any other game. Like any Disney movie, you can feel the passion of KH1 in the details. In the meantime, KH2 gives us a much improved combat system... but in return, gave us those awful skateboarding segments. Ugh.
+Ritokure I agree with Traverse Town. But I honestly didn't really like Deep Jungle just due to the atrocious platforming sections. And I'm pretty sure the skateboarding sections were optional
Dawnlight I'm a big fan of Symphonia myself, but let's face it - it's the Final Fantasy 7 of the Tales series. It was the one that most westerners played first despite it definetely not being anywhere close to the first Tales game, it's the one that fanboys prop up on a pedestal as having an amazing story that was about heavy subjects like racism and prejudice, and it's the one that GameCube fanboys site when defending the GameCube as having good games. Symphonia was excellent for it's time. But it was soon elipsed by Abyss, and later, by Graces, in particular Graces ƒ. Once you play Graces ƒ it's really hard to go back and enjoy much of anything that Symphonia has to offer, even the HD version on PS3. It's clunky and plotting, trope characters out of a make-your-RPG construction set, and the battle system is more simplistic than even it's predecessor, Tales of Eternia. And that was entirely 2D. If you like Symphonia, check out Graces ƒ.
Satoshi Matrix Graces f was really good imo. But I personally thought the Xillia series was better. I grew more attached to the story and characters better than what Graces offered. Though Graces opened me up to new voice actors such as Bryce Papenbrook, Cassandra Lee Morris, and David Vencent.
Dawnlight For me, one of the biggest nicest improvements with Graces ƒ was the battle system as it completely lacked MP meters. Chaining attacks and spells was so much fun it reminds me of the good old days of beat 'em ups like Streets of Rage 2. Then Xillia went back to an MP system. I'm really forward to Tales of Zestiria, as from what I hear it's got a similar battle system to Graces and Graces ƒ.
My top 10 RPGS 1. Suikoden 2 2. Mother 3 3. FF8 4. Chrono Trigger 5. FF7 6. Chrono Cross 7. FF4 8. Dragon Quest V 9. Super Mario RPG 10. Final Fantasy Tactics
My favourite RPGs ever: 1. Xenogears 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Dragon Quest 3, 4, 5, or 9 4. Final Fantasy 6, 7, or 8 5. Skies of Arcadia 6. Suikoden 1 or 2 7. Earthbound 8. Xenoblade Chronicles or X 9. Xenosaga 1, 2, or 3 10. Lunar Eternal Blue or Silver Star (Tie) 10. Wild Arms 1 or 2 (Tie) Some of my comments on why I don't have Watchmojo games on my list. Numbered by their ranks: 10. Secret of Mana - I only like this game with multiplayer, it's more of an action RPG anyway. 7. I have never been latched into any Persona or SMT game more than about 15 hours, I don't find them as interestingnd find them a little grindy. 6. Kingdom Hearts - I don't really enjoy these games, and I find the RPG elements to be extremely weak in the game, they're not strong enough to really count it as an RPG, it's more of an action adventure. 4. I love Dragon Quest, but I found Dragon Quest 8 to be extremely slow, it was the worst paced game in the series since DQ2, even worst than DQ7 (which I actually liked, but didn't finish, so i didn't add it to my list). Dragon Quest 9 fixed all of the issues, and added multiplayer which was a great addition. Storywise and characterwise, Dragon Quest 4 and 5 are MUCH better games. Dragon Quest 3 was massively groundbreaking at the time of its release. 3. Pokemon games in general - Similar to most American and European made RPGs, I don't really enjoy these sorts of games. Pokemon feels more like a simple beginners introduction to RPG mechanics rather than a full-fledged RPG. The main reason I don't have North American or European developed RPGs is because I don't find they feel like RPGs. A lot of the core mechanics that differentiate RPGs from other genres have been removed in recent times. The most important one is the abstracted simulations of combat; this is the defining mechanic of the RPG genre on paper and in videogame format. Because a lot of so-called "Western RPGs" don't have them, there is no mechanic or set of mechanics that really define them as RPGs; as sports games, fighting games, racing games, platformers, and action adventures all incorporate the same mechanics.

You and wacthmojo finally agree on something? That'll be true if wacthmojo actually choose the listed content for they're videos and not the fans who visit they're website...... :P
Billybo10000 You even agree with Kingdom Hearts :S
Wow just when Watchmojo could have not sunk lower
TsunaTsurugi I meant more with the top 3. I kinda hate KH.
SUIKODEN 2 IS THE BEST! So glad you mentioned this game. It's a masterpiece.
ozboybrian should have been in the top 3
I agree is the best RPG I have ever played. I still can't find RPG to knock it off my number 1
I have looked for another game to replace it I can't. I played that game when I was kid in early 2000s. That's how great that game is.
Yea only liked the 1st 2 tho i wasnt a fan of the 3d ones it looks so good with the pixal art
MF Doctor Doom
The way I feel about Chrono Trigger and Suikoden 2; I also get that feeling from The Witcher 3. I strongly recommend if you haven't already. And if you haven't; play the whole trilogy, not just the 3rd(though the 3rd is by farrrrrrrrr the best).
What about Cory in the house tactics. One of the best licensed jrpg's of all time.
Sadly, it's one of the more overlooked videogames.. same could be said about the anime.
They said they were not including tactical strategy games, pay attention.
and sadly there is already a cory in the house game for ds
Definitely deserved an honorable mention for the OST alone..
Chris Holzmair stop with the joke
The emotions you get while playing Earthbound and Ni no kuni : wrath of the white witch are so powerful.
Agree 100% Crono Trigger is the best.We need a remake please.
Agreed. I stopped though... I got stuck.
Jiraiya Hermit where did you get stuck?
+Jayden S The part where there was... Remember that weird other-dimension world (forgot whats called)? But apparently, the first time got there, Crono and crew instantly made some sort of scene (forgot that too) and now -- they forced me to stay away from that place and dimension with this weird crystal (again, I forgot about it)... Now, my auest is to find a way TO GET BACK to that place... By force.
Totally agree. Can't trust Square-enix for this, thought they do decent games when they are not FF, still decent and masterpieces as chrono triger is are too far from each other.
no! no need! it was, is and always will be perfect!
True people say WatchMojo is bad just because the list didn't align with their opinion
Suikoden II, Persona 4 and Chrono Trigger are my faves off this list!
Wiconderoga Same here.
Wiconderoga personally, i love Suikoden V, one of the best games i ever beta tested
Wiconderoga I guess, Persona 3 have a better story than Persona 4, but i like more P4.
And all 3 you can get on PS Vita. One of the many reasons why that system is awesome is all of the amazing JRPGs.
I have ff 1- x/x2 on vita, bof4, suikoden, xenogears, legend of dragoon, fft,.....just to name a few like 30 rpgs or so
Chrono Trigger shaped me as who i am.
Yep, I agree for once with no 1, Chrono Trigger all the way, masterpiece. The soundtrack is just amazing
+Kim Doan Just bought it for my DS! Gonna enjoy it for the second time. Think I'll be able to appreciate it properly this time.
Nothing good about it what so ever.
barry wallace Your ability to follow through like that is impressive.
1:00 stats MAXED at first boss lol.
Dragon quest VIII has one of the best game soundtracks ever
Persona: hold my beer
Nier Automata enters the chat
It's the greatest game of all time
@@spaceydragonmanga686 sorry dragon quest soundtrack shits all over persona. Dragon quest made persona man lol.
@@urekmazino6800 Dragon Quest made Persona? I don't think Dragon Quest has any relations to Persona. Didn't SMT and Jojo's Bizzare Adventure make Persona? And what Dragon Quest/Persona soundtrack are you even talking about?
I'm so glad that Earthbound made the list
Me too but I wish it was higher though 😞
WatchMojo putting the best Persona character in the thumbnail. Good call.
Skyrim and Fallout 3 beat all these JRPGS
Deadpool Good thing this isn't a list about those games then!
Yeah but seriously you can't compare Final Fantasy to Skyrim think about it
Everyone knows which is better just saying
Deadpool So wait majority of people is everyone? For one I don´t even like skyrim at all or any elder scroll game or any dragon age and I played both for more than 30h so your everyone argument already falls apart...
for me the best are, in no particular order: final fantasy 7, 8 and 10, xenogears, chrono trigger, persona 3 and 4.
Good for you
No earthbound dang
Final Fantasy 7 & 10, Chrono Trigger and Persona 4 are awesome for sure ❤️
Yes! The No.1 was what got me into RPGs period. It was one of those games that is worth buying the system just to play that game.
Really surprised Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, and Panzer Dragoon Saga didn't at least get an honorable mention.
Dreamcast actually had some of the best JRPG's ever made for it's short life cycle, skies of arcadia, grandia II, phantasy star online, and shenmue if you want to count that as an JRPG.
He didn't put final Fantasy 7 one of the best jrpgs
Yep
True skies of arcadia deserves Atleast an honorable mention
Lost Odyssey, probably the most underrated JRPG of all time. Wish it was bron with 'Final Fantasy' name, it would've been the best of all. You guys should check that game, certainly one of the best I've ever played.
+Danielviomusic It was released on the wrong console imho. Xbox isn't exactly the number one brand to market JRPGS on.
It would have had better success on the PS3 I think.
XxPetexXx you're probably right. But you can agree with me it's the best old-style JRPG out there, even years after.
Danielviomusic Along with Persona 4 Golden, and The Last Story it's the only JRPG I've really enjoyed since beating Final Fantasy 10.
Unless you count the Souls games as JRPGS.
+Danielviomusic Sorry, but SMT games are waaaayyyyy less known here in the west.
I own and played several times the Kaim Chronicles, the story is awesome, but the battles and magic are the worst! boring as hell! even eternal sonata has better fights, to me the great absence is Breath Of Fire II, but if i was gonna choose between the ps ones, I would have chosen IV
Xenogears, that story had my questioning many things in life as a teenager. so deep, and i love Mechs... so it was perfect.
Blade 1 is better
@@Oliver-hd5fk Nah...not even close
@@thomasjackson2496 not going to insult gears here, it's an awesome game but people really should take their nostalgia goggles off
@@Oliver-hd5fk i didn't say anything about nostalgia, so the goggles are off. You can assume they're on to fit your narrative, if you want..that's up to you. I just think it's just a better game/experience at its core
...They need to make a Top 10 more JRPGs. Too many games were missed...
HitomiNoRyu I agree WatchMojo.com
Hemang Chauhan They did not put Bravely Default on the list nor as an honorable mention.
I mean, they had xenoblade in the thumbnail, and didn't even include it in the list
HitomiNoRyu true
HitomiNoRyu Not sure if you or anyone remembers this one, but Wild Arms was a great JRPG. The story had me going non-stop and the combat was amazing. Plus the score was epic!
Glad to see DQ8 is getting the recognition it truly deserves. :)
What a beautiful game that was
The story is so great and one of konami best games
Dq series has gotta be one of my faveroute series. The music the chacters great
Ya musics great until u play dragon quest 11
The switch version of Dragon Quest 11 has much improved music, trust me. Almost teared up from music alone
@@SojisWorld The Switch version has symphonic music. It's the definitive edition of the game
Is there a way to get this now on ps4? The dragon quest series is also a favorite of mine and I’m playing DQXI now for the first time
@@poofypeanut0221 no, it's switch only, sorry.
Golden Sun 1&2 on the GBA?
Yeah agree Golden Sun should have been on the list!
Those are fantastic games. Totally agree that they should have been somewhere on the list.
totally agree
Joeysan24 YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSS!!!! THANK YOU!!!! Literally my favorite game of all time, I'm not the only one
Sucks that the DS version is a lot worse
A very deserved #1 for Chrono Trigger!!! The next question in this 20 years is why doesn't have a sequel? :)
There is a sequel to Chrono trigger. It’s called Chrono Cross
I don't entirely agree with this list, but not gonna fanboy rage the writer's opinions differ from my own.
Unlike 95% of other comments here.
Satoshi Matrix To be fair, WatchMojo arranges their countdowns according to fan vote, so it's not really the writer's opinion.
Satoshi Matrix Probably, because that would make the titles of their videos unnecessarily long.
Satoshi Matrix THIS COMMENT DESERVES A MILLION MORE LIKES
Nethingispossible145 Well thanks!
Fans will forever debate which JRPG is the best (or worst), but one thing is undeniable...the genre itself has produced some of the finest and most memorable games in history.
JRPGs > all other genres.
Golden Sun, anyone? :D By no means one of the greatest, but in my opinion, definitely an awesome game.
+katnisssullen i still waiting for a 3DS version :/
there is a ds version, but the game itself isnt that nice in comparison to the advance games
no it isnt
Why is earthbound so low at the list!?
Psycho Joona tbh it shouldn't be on the list at all. But i know it's their list
James Howard I can tell you haven’t played Earthbound.
Earthbound is a classic
Because there are a TON of great RPGs out there?
It was ok. I wouldn't put it on the list either.
Aww Golden Sun didn't get an honorable mention? :(
So happy P4 made this. Absolutely tore through that game, though I had it as P4 Golden for vita. Loved it
Suikoden 2 is the best rpg game with 108 character to find and a castle
Raymond Roxas wow a castle?! Never seen that before in a rpg
@@shardofkingdoms9816 you have your own castle and your own army google it bro or watch it here in youtube

Im trying to play it right now. But I also need to play Chrono Trigger & FF 3...So many games I missed back in the day! I just beat Super Castlevania & Gradius 3. Its kinda cool playing these games now! I really liked the first Suikoden so Im sure 2 is just as good!
@@peterc504
I would put Suikoden 2 up there with some of the best and it's story is definitely along the top among JRPGs.
If No. 1 isnt Barkley, Shut Up and Jam; Gaiden im going to set myself on fire
Finally someone with taste
Finally some video mentions Suikoden II! All time favourite ps1 game.
Greatest rpg ever made.
love the whole suikoden series 2 was my fav
Larita .... Been playing Suikoden 2 on my Vita, I have to agree, what a great effin game!
People always forget about this one because it wasn't Square, who basically ruled the world at that time. But it's so good. I still prefer Xenogears and FFIX, but it's absolutely fantastic. Dear Chrono Cross...this is how you do a ton of playable characters RIGHT.
@@frozenaorta Have you ever played legend of heroes trails series?
Xenogears has one of the best story of all time.
Kinda disappointed Blue Dragon isn't getting any love. That's my favorite RPG on the Xbox 360, along with Tales Of Vesperia and Star Ocean: The Last Hope. I still remember thinking how Nene was pure evil, and I had to stop him. Such a great game.
Finally someone who agrees
Where the hell is Skies of Arcadia?
Everybody is always snobbing Sega titles.... Final Fantasy is so great!!! ... Yeah... Well did you ever try Phantasy Star? No? Then shut up
magmablock Mojo doesn't know shit about DreamCast or GameCube, which is a real shame.
Final Fantasy sucks always will suck
Deadpool you sir deserved +100 from me!!
Why thank you very much 😉
I got a JRPG called Growlanser 2 the sense of justice for PS2 by accident once but I really loved that game, it's like one of the most underrated games ever imo lol.
Does anyone in this comment section ever heard of it?
Growlanser is a more strategic game like final fantasy tactics and therefore not on this list. PS2 was great and many titltes just under the radar... Legend of Dragon, Disgea, Grandia2, Hexcy Force etc.

sasuke270 13 Definitely Agree :).
I'm just glad they at least listed Lunar as an honorable mention. Wish they would have added lufia 2 as well, decent list at the very least :).
What about star ocean or the best of all legend of the dragoons
WatchMojo.com I would have put Suikoden IV, Grandia 2, and one of the Golden Sun games on the list over Secret of Mana or Earthbound. Also Is Xenoblade should have been on instead of Xenogear because it improved on Xenogear. Also I am surprised ANY of the Tales of games did not make the list.
WatchMojo.com I like "InuYasha: The Secret of the Cursed Mask" best of all....
Time to make a new list. Persona 5 came out
And people can finally stop pretending P4 had top-tier writing when a superior game just came out.
Where's the lie? Sorry Secret of Mana...my childhood loves you, but Persona 5 is the definitive jRPG of this era.
@P for Potato_GAMING You don't like Persona 5? Really? I'm literally 37. I started with the original Final Fantasy game. And I think P5 is amazing.
@Lon Hixson I was born in 1980. I am in no way a millenial. But thanks for sharing your totally elite and not at all incorrect opinions. Odds are that you're the actual millenial here.
Time to make a new list.
Legend of Heroes Trails series.
These guys really hate Golden Sun. They didn't add Isaac to the wanted chars for SSB4
Xenogears....one of the best games. Damn I love this game too.
No Phantasy Star, no Skies of Arcadia, no Panzer Dragoon Saga. Sega is always ignored...
+Jack Patrick Can't include every goddamn rpg on the list dude.
Nergal134 Those are three. One of them is an absolute masterpiece in the genre (Panzer Dragoon Saga).
+Jack Patrick According to you, sure. Your opinion isn't at display here.
+Nergal134 That is why there is a comment section: to express one's opinion.
don't forget Shinning Force 2
where is tales of symphonia
Tales of Symphonia is a good JRPG, but Paper Mario and Skies of arcadia legends are better.
sergio carrasco As someone well versed in the Tales of series and JRPGs in general I still consider Symphonia to be legendary.
Andy Jenkins ToS has its own merits. That game revitalized the tales series, and was one of the best rpgs for the GC (well....GC had few rpgs). Those are the main reasons of why many people love that game
Andy Jenkins the game lore has many similarities from ff 10...I think that's why it's not in the list
Symphonia was fantastic, easily as good as any other.
Wow how did Xenoblade Chronicles Not make the list not to mention an honorable mention that game qualifys as an JRPG Damn Watchmojo why u hating
-And yet, it is also part of the tumbnail-
I am truly upset. Why even put it in the thumbnail if it's not on the list?
man Whata Bunch of Jokhas
Monado Boy one game per francaise and they thought xenogears was better as do I
rhaspados666 They're totally different games though, so I wouldn't actually count them as a franchise, just sharing a similar title.
Im so glad you guys didn't forget about Xenogears! =O
All great games but you forgot Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age ^^

I agree that Grandia should be on the list. Probably Tales of Symphonia also.
Where the hell is Tales of Symphonia or Tales of the Abyss
+Asch-kun thank you!!! i was looking for a tales fan
But what about Earthbound? I am already bored of it (kinda) and I have only beat it once.
Asch-kun that is why its not on the list..
the games listed here are just awesome and if you play them again and over and over and over..you just don't get bored playing it..
+Gether Medel it's number 8 dude?
what should "tales of" ranks as if not JRPG ??
Rinkitori Rataki It is a JRPG. It just didn't make the list. Tales is far more JRPG than Kingdom Hearts; KH is more of a hack and slash with JRPG elements.
Rinkitori Rataki I don't get it either, the entire series is simply amazing.
Yah it not even in the mention which that not even the case
tales is far too good of a JRPG
i guess watchmojo just have not play it yet
In Secret of Mana, the characters names are Randi, Primm and Popoi.
No matter what, when or where, Chrono Trigger must be the 1st and that's it.
(Chrobo Trigger on a DSi XL is simply magestic).
Chrono trigger was my favorite game ever until I played Tales of Berseria last year
where the fucking fuck is a tales of game?
Saying KH has better story than tales games...nice troll comment. KH is one of the most overrated games ever. Also Secret of Mana aged really bad and should not be here aswell. As for the other games i agree they are one of the best. Chrono Cross should get an honorable mention at least tho, this is such a great game.
I agree the best Tales game is better than the best Kingdom Hearts or best Breath of Fire game, but that still just gets it an honorable mention at best.
Sooooo... I'm guessing Chrono Trigger for number 1!
UnkeptMoss328 yep
Dimitris Karadimas You were close, it was number 3.
UnkeptMoss328 HELL YEAH!
Dimitris Karadimas It is, it's definitely worth playing!
Dimitris Karadimas So is FF6!
I ok I agree with having the top two as Final Fantasy 6 and CHRONO Trigger. Spoiler alert#
The fact that half way through FF6 the villian Kefka wins and succeeds in destroying the world has got one of the most Holy Fucking Shit moments in gaming, and Kefka himself to call him Final Fantasy’s most frightening and Sadistic villain is putting it lightly.
Uh, Have you played Xenoblade?
No It's for Nintendo consoles so I wouldn't have played it :T
Better story?HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
PS1
You Should! It'd be worth your time.
The legend of Heros: Trail in the Sky series should be at least top 5 ;)
Amazing game but not top 5.
Xenoblade chronicles isn't only my favourite jrpg but my favourite game ever
+Garagold The ending to that game was so awesome. It would of made a great movie.
+Garagold WATER. THE SOURCE OF ALL LIFE.
+gjozefi more like 7 movies to explain it all =)
It's my favorite game too. Chrono Trigger is my third though. (2 is Super Metroid)
Hence why this is the first video where I hit the dislike button.

Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts 2 FM, and Chrono Trigger are some of the greatest games ever created
Even though Dragon Quest VIII was mentioned I think Dragon Quest V was also a really good JRPG 🤷
Yugen Animations Those two seem to be the most beloved by the community. I think VIII got the spot due to thoughtless combat until you reach the end in V.

Haven't watched this yet but im gonna say Crono Trigger is at the top
Jude David i knew "grabs popcorn and starts boy cotting"
lol
Jude David Yeah, its pretty obvious. I knew right from the start that Chrono Trigger and FF6 would probably be 1-2. I was thinking it'd be nice of Lufia II or Golden Sun got mentioned, but after seeing Suikoden II at 9, I knew they wouldn't be on the list.
they added crono trigger to their greatest games of all time list (nothing wrong with that) so i already knew final fantasy wouldn't be number1
Nothing beats Fallout 3
I enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles a lot.

Martin Nguyen I agree
Martin Nguyen is xenoblade in the same universe than xenogear?
alain gaudreault I don't think so; I never played xenogears though.
well in my opinion this game is the best rpg ever made, so epic.
no legend of dragoon? Or Skies of Arcadia? How dare you!
Those two JRPGS are easily in my top 5 next too Persona 4.
Legend of dragoon is way better than most of the games on this list, and I have to say the .hack games are as well. Whomever made this list doesn't have an expansive enough knowledge of the genre to merit this list to be a reliable.
Ouch... no Legend of Dragoon indeed, but more importantly, no Ar no Tonelico... what?
Legend of Dragoon was decent at most until disc 3 lol
What went wrong at disc 3 again? been a long time since I've played it.
I'm rather disappointed that Disgaea didn't even get an honorable mention, but to each his own I suppose.
He said at the beginning that Strategy RPGs don't count.
matt4045 I guess I missed that part. Still.
Wait Strategy RPG are you serious
If you're going to include Kingdom Hearts, then you include KH2. It's better than KH1 in every way.
+Tyrius Wolfe Kingdom Hearts 2 is awful though, they took what was fun about the first game and made it unfun... worlds are linear and boring, combat is nothing but mashing X and triangle, the simple story became a huge mess.
+BlackLynx4607a The worlds in KH1 were no where near as good as KH2 imo
+Tyrius Wolfe Yep. Kingdom Hearts 2 is my favorite game.. But I gotta say.. I don't really like KH1..
No Tales games on the list?
Dawnlight At Least Symphonia or Xillia deserved it
DasKame
Personally, I think the original Symphonia.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude! I'm doing this right! Even counting the honorable mentions I've played 80% of the list! \o/

Some of my comments on why I don't have Watchmojo games on my list. Numbered by their ranks:
Try persona 4!
Good list. I'd add DQ8 over 9 and FF9 over 8 (almost confused myself there), but I'm with you most of the way. Particularly at 1 and 2.
i know you said you don't really like western rpgs but whats your opinion one bethesda, specifiaclly fallout 1,2 and 3 and the elder scrolls series?
