Thanks Andrew. I enjoy listening to a fellow stock photographer on a similar level. Let’s not calculate our hourly earning. Not only does it take 2 months for Adobe to review non-editorial photos these days, they often reject editorial photos as you said, with the comment that they don’t meet their “Illustrative Editorial Guidelines”. And these photos sell on other agencies. Good to diverse I suppose.
Hi and thanks for reaching out. Yes, it's pretty frustrating but AS have their own rules and that's their right, frustrating though it is. Diversification indeed is necessary.but the pond is getting smaller unfortunately.
Wow, Andrew Balcombe pumped up more then ever :) Love that energy. I really like your fresh oysters photos, those are destined to sell well! I managed to avoid the August dip, and finally broke the 300/month mark... Also, I bought second-hand Tamron 17-28 f2.8 in August, and made a few nice trips to blooming heather fields around sunset.
Hi Milos, the heather never gets old in August. Especially in golden hour. Absolutely delighted for you that you hit 300 dollars last month. Well done sir. Well done!
That was the best sponsor break I've seen 😂. Getty was disappointing for me too, but I luckily had 1 big sale at Shutterstock. 12 dollars for a photo of a pink flower field at Lisse. In total 56 sales for 41 dollars.
Congrats on your new sponsor, haaa! Over here in New Zealand sells during August picked up and both downloads and $$ more than doubled over that of July. Hopefully September is good for you and me both!
well done on a strong August. I suppose December, Feb are slow in NZ. All the best for September too! I just sold a video for 22 dollars today so mine has started strong.
I love how you mentioned your hard drive. I just switched to 5TB models. I am up to 7 of them for my videos and images. This business produces a lot of data.
I've been uploading consitently since July, after not uploading anything for two years! I definitely notice new photos being sold, but I'm also seeing a lot of first sales on very old images. It seems to be bringing exposure to my portfolio in general. :)
Hi Andrew, good tip, Make uploading a daily habbit and do it for a long time to see results. I believe there is also a correlation with being higher in the search rankings. In August I made $2.425,19
Hi Steve, I'm doubdtful things will get better for contributors. But having said that there is still money to be made. I have no choice I can't stop uploading and I am pretty confident if I upload more my revenue will increase. But i'm also confident that it will flatten out at some stage too.
Hey Andrew, I’m a bit late to the party and only just got around to watching your video, but I still wanted to share my August earnings with you! I made a grand total of $10 on Shutterstock from 41 downloads. Some first-time sellers: a photo of a museum in Giethoorn, a strip of paracetamol, first-class seats on an NS train, and some freshly uploaded drone shots. It’s exciting to see them sell, but very disappointing to only end up with $10. Adobe stock: $37 from 45 downloads, about 60% ai images. The photos that sold were mostly regular sellers, but the Ai images had a surprisingly high amount of brain images and mockup/blurry background kind of images for some reason. I remember you once mentioned you were hesitant to create AI images because you were worried about getting blocked or losing your account. How do you feel about that now? Also, great to hear that you've been spending more time uploading regularly! I have the Shutterstock app on my phone, so I check a few times a day for new image approvals and send in another batch. It makes it super easy to upload regularly & to keep the momentum going.
Hi Laura, thanks for filling me in on your latest highs and lows with the agencies. Super interesting to read which images have been selling. I prefer to focus on video and photos more than AI still. I just enjoy it more and want to get some momentum with it uploading daily. So far it seems to be working. Had a video sale of USD 22 on SS recently. Have a great september!
Hi Andrew, thanks for the video and for the news about your earnings. SS was very poor for me too. I've been on Level 3 for some months but that doesn't seem to make any difference to their RPD. They still give 10c per pic. It's rubbish. AS has been much better for me in Aug. I have a small portfolio of 1000 images and the sales were about $25. I have been analysing my AS portfolio to learn what items, in my genera of photography, sell there best; and that has been most helpful. I'm finding that shooting marketable images is hard work. Numbers alone don't help as some of the images might never sell. Before shooting I ask myself who might use that image and in what context. Having said that, there are always surprises. Keep up the good works. How's the bathroom coming along? BW Nishi
Hi Nishi, Good to hear from you. Bathroom is still a pain and leaking. More work is promised from the tradesman next week, so fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing your highs and lows with SS and also the insights with AS. Very helpful. Yes, Quantity doesn't work for me either these days. I try to find what works and then repeat, with variations. Or what's unique and others won't have much of. All the best for now!
My August wasn't too bad. My September will be off the chart due to the Adobe Stock AI payout. Suggestion: lean more towards videos. In fact, start shooting verticals. I just had a vertical video sale on SS that earned me $75.
Hi James, Good to hear from you. Video verticals. That sounds interesting. Any subjects better than others? I hope September is kind to you and thanks for sharing!
@@andrewbalcombe1338 No particular topic is selling, so whatever you can shoot. 9 out of my top 10 videos on my Adobe Stock portfolio are verticals. Take a look at my portfolio if you want to see what I'm selling. Really, only AS are selling verticals for me at the moment.
Hey Andrew, quick question-have you noticed that uploading daily speeds up the review process? I've been uploading in batches, and it’s been really slow the past month. For example, I upload about 30 images (like 5 of tomatoes, 7 similar drone shots, 4 textures, etc.), but I only submit 1 tomato, 1 drone, and 1 texture image at a time. Then, I have to wait about 4 days for those 3 to be accepted before I can submit more. If I sent them all at once, I know some would be rejected for being too similar. Are your photos being reviewed daily?
Hi Laura, I upload in small batches of say 6-10 photos (with often 2 or so multiples of one subject) and 1-4 videos typically. I've found AS painfully slow and SS slower than normal. I don't know if the amount matters, but i've heard from other microstockers that small batches are faster .
Portfolio in august on Adobe (only AI): 14300, sold 455 images, good for $380. I quit the youtube talk for tips and tricks cause this will bring your sales down as I see this happen to some other youtubers :-)
but I would never get that day back in my life. When Icould have been doing something I love. Money is necessary sure, but I do it for many more reasons aswell. But having said that. If one does stock photography for money alone, then it is worth exploring other casual work for sure.
Thanks Andrew. I enjoy listening to a fellow stock photographer on a similar level. Let’s not calculate our hourly earning. great that you got that standard zoom aswell. You should be well served by the Tamron and it will complement the 35 - 150
Thanks Andrew. I was wondering what was going on with the rock and roll intro music.... and you had me smiling the entire video.
Thanks a lot Jeff. It looks like I might have to switch to decaf for the next vid. Glad you enjoyed it!

much appreciated! thanks for the comment

Hi Jason. Now that is a lot of hard drive storage. I actually need to add to mine. It's the video that eats it up.
@@andrewbalcombe1338 Yep. producing UA-cam episodes eats it up :)
Andrew, August is always slow do not worry, btw, drink same ,,smiling coffee,, 🤟
Thanks man!
I love your sense of humor

Thant's really interesting to know. Two years is quite a break 🙂Thanks for sharing this. Good luck with September
Uploading even just a few shots every day or so definitely makes a difference to sales
Words of wisdom for my ears. Just have to keep the momentum up. Thanks for reaching out!

I always enjoy your videos. This one was especially good for its humor. That part about us being doomed, was that humor or partial truth?
Thank you! We never really know what's coming in the world of microstock but i'm just going to keep uploading. The industry isn't doomed just yet 🙂
Great update Andrew. Are you still hopeful though that things can get better in this industry?

I upload to the sites every day unless I am traveling, and yes, it definitely works well!
It's a great habit to get into. The challenge is not getting distracted away from it for me 🙂
If one day i create a UA-cam Channel I want this sponsor !👍😂
I'll offer my special subscriber discount!

you'd earn more money working one afternoon at a fast food restaurant and have the rest of the week to shoot.
