Would look into getting a steamer for sure it will make your life way easier on those interior details. It’s worth it. And you will use way less cleaning product also. Also get a scrub ninja for wiping down the interior they work great and make things faster.
Thanks! I have a steamer, I just lack the 30 minutes of patience it takes to set up and heat up. I use it often on dusty and sawdusty type vehicles…I will have to start putting it into regular practice though and see the difference it makes for me. Thanks so much!
Great work, Jess! I would say, and you can take it or leave it, that as detailers we are obviously aware of the “details” and I know for me I’m such a perfectionist that I can get over committed to trying to make the car perfect.. but I’ve had to to learn that my goal is excellence not perfection when dealing with used cars that have been neglected and not taken proper care of. I do the best I can but won’t allow myself to spend too much time on something when I need to move on to other areas so that I can get the job done in a good time for myself and my client… especially when I have more than one car to do in a day. I actually had one of my clients when I told her that I wasn’t going to be able to get some dirt out of her carpet underneath the seat that she didn’t even care and wouldn’t have ever noticed it at all. I was all worried that she was going to be disappointed in my service and yet it was quite the opposite… she was so pleased with the results and even gave me a great tip! So even though we want it to be perfect, we do the best we can with what we’re working with and at the end my customers are always happy. Plus I always go over what I’m going to be doing for them before the detail and give them the proper expectations and that way they know what I can or can’t do and how much it’ll cost and so on. Anyways, great job and remember excellence over perfection!
Thank you so much! I hear this a lot and I absolutely know that I have to get there. I always try to remind myself of this and on some vehicles I actually challenge myself to NOT go crazy over the minor details…I’m getting better with it. I just can’t do two details in a day by myself, it’s so exhausting, I have no idea how you do it! So sometimes I do go a little over the top because I have nowhere else to be. But regardless, I absolutely agree and really want to get there. I’ve already shifted a ton from when I started, believe it or not 😆
@@DetailWithJess that’s good! Recognizing it is the first step to get better with it! It’s definitely a challenge because we want to do a perfect job and please our customers but there’s only so much we can do with a used car. And yes, 2 in a day is exhausting and I don’t do it much thankfully… only if they’re maintenance details. You’re doing great, keep up the good work! ✨
I find my self having the same issues as yourself with trying to perfect something that was neglected. It’s easier said then done trying to let go. You explained it perfectly👍🏻👍🏻

As most detailers do when detailing interiors, they vacuum first before wiping the surfaces. which eliminates vacuuming twice. Always start at the top, then work down. Since the P & S product does not contain protectants, a better choice for interior cleaning may be a rinseless wash. Definitely more cost effective. Another tip, never spray product directly on electronics, to avoid damage? The seats should be cleaned at the end of an interior detail, you never want to sit back onto clean seats. When you cleaned the windows, the over spray using an aerosol cleaner. I always spray the cleaner into a mf towel first then wipe follow up with another mf towels. My towels for windows are dedicated to glass only.

Great video Jess, Good attention to detail. I use foam paint brushes on vent louvers. One has cleaner & one with protectant or can use an all-in one & save time. You can get them in 1, 2 or 3". They're cheap, easy to clean and last quite a while.
Love that idea. I went to the store looking for some small ones after you mentioned this but didn’t find them. I did purchase a small paint brush though to help with some small crevices based off of your suggestion! I will have to look at another store for the foam brushes 😁

Nice work, funny when I saw the nail brush I was going to post that toothbrush is excellent too as you can also get different stiffness and styles. I use one for dishes as well. Keep going and all success to you!😊

btw for air compressors, get the harbor freight ultra quiet 3.5 gallons I think. the thing with air compressors is they are super loud and annoying, not something the neighbors or clients really want to hear, but the ultra quiet is very pleasent. It cost a little more than one of those loud traditional pancake compressors, but it fills up fast and far and away worth the extra $50-70 premium.
Thank you! Yes, this California Air one that I have is an ultra quiet and isn’t too bad - I think it’s pretty similar…if not the same, as the Harbor Freight one! (But obviously not as big!)
Looks good . Dog hair can be rough . I always ask and upcharge because of the extra time needed. One thing I would suggest is looking into a steam cleaner. It helps alot in cleaning out door pockets and cup holders. Time saver and potentially less product used. Keep up the good work !
Everyone’s recommending a steamer so maybe I should start using it haha I have one and use it mostly on dirtier vehicles. It just takes so long to get up to temp to use that I lose patience and don’t use it enough but I’m going to start using it based off of everyone’s comments ☺️ Thank you!!

And it looks like you deal with a lot vehicles with dog hair. There’s an attachment for your vacuum called the fur eel I love it for dog hair.
I had heard that attachment was great but everyone said it would wear out after a use or two and it seemed expensive to be going through one every two details…any thoughts on that?

Hi Jess, just found your channel. I also use spray way glass cleaner but found it to be a bit streaky which i think is caused by the fresh scent they add. I think invisible glass works better but my not be as cost effective. You could try Mequires glass cleaner in the gallon size. Pan uses diluted dawn dish washing liquid and a magic eraser on tough glass then finishes with a spray glass cleaner. Think it's cool to find a female professional detailer. Not many here on youtube. You and chelsea are changing the image and being great role models for younger girls.
I try to keep diluted Dawn on hand because it is the best at first breaking away any grime that leaves streaks on the windows…I had been out of bottles though and just bought some and started trying to use isopropyl alcohol to test that out! Thank you so much for the input and support!
I recommend you get a McCullough Steamer. I have the 1270 and it's fantastic. Couldn't live without it and I only paid 100.00 for it brand new.
I have one, it’s awesome. I use it a lot on dusty and saw dust details but it just takes so dang long to set up and get hot that I don’t have the patience for it on most day.
Jess working hard. You will learn how cut down your time process. Can I recommend when you go to Walmart get some 70% rubbing alcohol and some distilled water and mix 50/50 and use it for your widow cleansing. Works great and cheaper than the can.

the best way to avoid cleaning things twice is to move from the top down. Depending on how dirty the interior is, if its clean like this vehicle, I won't vacuum till the very end. I'll first blow out all the loose dirt with my tornador. I reccomend the one which sprays a little bit of mist, the mist seems to help dislodge the small dust particles between the cracks and crevices better than just air. Then I do a wipe down or shampoo of the plastics and seats. Then finnish with the vacuum. I used to vacuum twice no matter what, but realized im wasting time when its not really that dirty, and I have the vacuum at the end anyways.
Thank you! I keep researching the other Tornadors to see how they make sense in the detail because I feel a little confused at their use, but that makes sense. I’m definitely not disagreeing with you but I feel that my final vacuum always requires more air compressing somewhere which then just blows more debris onto the hard surfaces. So I’ve been doing a super deep air compression and vacuum first and then just do a real quick surface vacuum before I put the floor mats in. I am either way too thorough in my detail or I just need to learn from someone hands-on to learn a faster process. Yours probably works but for some reason doesn’t seem to make sense with the way I do things…but I will try!
@@DetailWithJess it's all good, every car is different so there is never a constant way of doing things, even guys who have been in detailing for years try different things and adjust the way they detail. It's a constant search for the perfect process haha
@@DetailWithJess the tornador that blows a little mist basically can almost cut your brushing time by 90 percent. For example the air vents, you blow them out with the tornador with the mist, then switch to the dry mode and dry up any remaining water. Takes about two seconds, but your can do this between all the cracks and crevices thought the car. Sometimes you need to use a brush, but many times this delivers more than adequate results. It can also rinse out any chemicals that get trapped in the cracks and crevices and flushes them out.
Hey Jess, thanks for the awesome videos... one question, I noticed you. switched to Express for the seats, I love Express but it doesn't have any UV protection. Could you use Swift on the seats and does it have UV protection or is it just mostly used for the plastics.
So, I always clean first with Xpress and THEN dress and protect. To be honest, I don’t have the answer on UV protection with Swift. My assumption is that it does not have UV protection and I only say that because on the packaging it says “protection” but not “UV Protection.” Where as their products that have UV protection specifically say “UV Protection.” But to answer the other part of your question, yes, Swift can be used on the seats 😁
Few things i find helpful for me- Fabric spray carpets and chairs before you set up, i prefer the toilet brush attachment drill as i find it flicks up the hairs better, steam clean the stain- i just got a cheap bissel steamer, Ninja scrub surfaces and only pulling out the paint brush for the steering wheel or extra detail to speed up. How long did it take in the end, and how much you charge? How many extra minutes do you think it took extra with having to move the camera around and what not?
Love these tips, you’re the best! I keep hearing about fabric spray…I need to try that out. And love the paint brush idea! Definitely need to get that. I have a McCulloch steamer, it just takes 30 minutes to set up and while it’s running i can’t use any other power so I dread using it a lot of times. This detail was $286 and she graciously tipped me $50. I did the exterior as well. The camera setup definitely added in an hour I feel because, in total, this took way longer than any other detail. But time in total was 6 hours with filming and all.
@@DetailWithJess and that's just the beginning, editing video, thumbnail, description etc, etc but you made some great content. i enjoyed the video always good to get some tips and see how people tackle things. I guess if i was doing making the video, having a tripod with a spare phone/camera attached already set up, and then just choosing a few snippets from each section.- do an intro of the area, what you do, some sped up filming for a minute or so and then the final result and move on. I think that has to be the greatest challenge and editing a ton of footage. once you have a system it be grand though. good job

Is there a reason 7 times back & forth for pick up floor mat which could be done at one Trip.
I mean, if you really care about that out of the entire detail, I’d be happy to explain 😂 I only like to take one weathertech mat out at a time..since they are stiffer, there is more risk of hitting the car and scratching the paint if I try to take multiples out at a time and the ground was wet and the car was parked on grass and gravel. I didn’t feel like getting grass clippings and gravel stuck all over the mats and onto my workspace. And I initially didn’t realize they had two layers of mats in the vehicle.

Just one quick tip turn off the interior light's as they can drain the car's battery

Do you use air freshener?
I don’t…only because I personally don’t believe in consuming any additional artificial scents on top of the chemicals I’m already using, and the cars always smell new when I’m finished, so why ruin it with an artificial scent?
What tools/services do you use for your booking website? Do you run google ads, or any other type of promotion or is it all word of mouth with old coworkers and stuff?

Oh, and all of my business has been SEO and SEO from my Google Business along with referrals. I’ve been getting a ton of calls lately from people finding me on Google and then every 1 client typically refers 1-2 clients to me which has been amazing.

Don't spray directly into the car. You can't control where the chemical goes (hits windows, etc). Make sure the windows are rolled down
What were you referring to that I had sprayed? Only asking so I know! I typically only spray directly onto the car if it’s my interior cleaner, because I’m cleaning, or I’ll spray the lower of the doors sometimes with Aqua Gloss, and then I do windows last which cleans any overspray

Time yourself. It should take about 2 hours to do an interior; if not don’t be so meticulous or charge accordingly. This vehicle should have cost 4-$500. If you didn’t charge that amount, start increasing your prices 15% increments every 6-8 months till you get to your price target.
You are mobile and should charge for convenience. Otherwise they have to get their fat a$$ up and take it to a detailer or car wash place.
