It is the best selling graphic novel of all time written by one author. If you just do a quick google search it can be confusing because I’ve see sources list it both ways.
I don't know about your audience, but it is worth remembering that what this first season covered is akin to a prologue of a book, or a tutorial in a game. It smashes you in the face with the basic concepts, worldbuilding and characters, giving you a footing in a very strange world, but the actual story has barely begun. (In fact, they initially intended to do two more episodes for the first season, which would truly wrap up this prologue, but for whatever reason, they ended the season in the way they did.) What we saw here was akin to Wheel of Time's Rand & co in their home village of Emond's field finally being tempted away into the bigger world with all the details they don't know about: it gives us an idea of what the boring, dull parts of this world are like while promising so much about everything beyond what they know. While the live action stripped down or adjusted a lot of the foreshadowing of what is to come, some of it still remains, like explaining the seas with the red line and the grand line (with its 'bigger pirates'!), and how the latter is the part where the adventure will take them. But it is also explained (partly by means of Mihawk) how there are in total seven warlords that have a deal with the World Government and will not be hunted by them in return for occasionally offering their services. It briefly has Nami freaking out (by means of the map) that there is apparently a river that seemingly defies physics and flows up a mountain they need to take, which is obviously impossible. The author has had his eye set on the long haul since the very first chapter, and these episodes in the first season are nothing but the first batch of seeds being sown, investments for future story arcs. And with every new season, viewers will more and more come to find out just how intricate and complicated the world of One Piece is, building themselves up out of a world with some very basic premises on the surface that end up being so much more once one gets to see more. Koby and Luffy already allude to this complexity in the very first episode: it isn't that pirates are bad, or marines are good. But rather that there are good and bad pirates, and good and bad marines. This story that is built up out of the most elementary themes of good and evil has boggling amounts of greyness and situational perspective going for it, and I genuinely believe that it is a matter of the story finally getting all of its ducks in place to start to fully showcase the way the author's ambition and talent. Every new arc will only become more complicated and more entangled than the last, and I truly recommend having tissues ready at all times. You'll never know when you'll need them, but once you do, you don't want to be without since the author pulls no punches when he truly unleashes his emotional rollercoaster rides.

There is a minor spoiler: Smoker is not the primary antagonist in the second season. Also, while One Piece may appear lighthearted on the surface, it actually delves into much darker themes compared to other anime like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, as you guys have mentioned.

Most of the Anime that I watched is much less popular then what is main stream today. Cowboy Beebop, Trigun, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Berserk etc. I admittedly do not know much about " One Piece " but I certainly don't think I'm too cool. I just think many of the things that make Anime great do not translate well to live action. It's also hard for me to have much confidence in Netflix after they Butchered "Cowboy Bebop" and " Death Note" but I did enjoy " One Piece ".
Live action is great but if you really want to understand the complete context of the story, your decision to watch the anime or read the manga is right❤ plus the timeline of the adaptation is a little bit different from the original series, so don't base too much on the live action during discussions.
1 important thing to keep in mind for anyone who want to try watching One Piece anime and not manga is the Anime started more than 20 years ago and it's made as weekly shounen anime for children to watch after school like Dragon Ball, Naruto etc. So, the anime has pacing problem for binge watchers. To give context about the length the anime compare to Live Action: SS1 of Live Action covers 44 episodes of anime, which is 4% of total anime length rn.
@@thesundownersclub3983 Something the author of One Piece love to do and it's very fascinating way to enjoy the show is foreshadowing. Be careful of some tiny details or throwaway lines bc those thing can refer to something relevant many 100 episodes later. Also, In manga at the end of each chapters, there's Q&A corner called SBS corner that the author answers the question from fans. The Questions range from his personal preference like his favorite Devil fruit to details for One Piece character like their favorite & least favorite food, birthday etc., or even interesting detail in One Piece world like the drawing of One Piece currency, detail about races in this world etc.
One Piece gets very dark the farther you go into the story as oppression by the world government, emperors and warlords is an important theme but the camp is always there. Oda did a good job balancing out both of them together. The world building is greater the GOT IMO, there almost 900 named characters in OP.
I've been a fan for years. I enjoyed the live action. I started with the anime, caught up about a year ago. I will say one piece at its core is incredible, but if you are very critical, you can find problems in the live action, anime, and even the manga. That being said one piece is something that has changed my life. Seeing these goofy characters grow and go through problems that us on earth have dealt with and still deal with to this day is just breathtaking. One piece has changed my life because of this. Not only did I learn lessons of heartache and strength, but I also now feel more comfortable being my authentic self. I think it has its handful of flaws. The anime can drag at times. Sometimes I have to reread the manga a couple times to really catch everything(not really a problem anymore cause I don't mind reading it more than once), and the live action was very cringe at moments. And even in the face of all of this. It is my favorite series of all time. The light heartened nature of the show brings a jot that nothing else has. It is one of the most unique journeys you can go on. True peak fiction. Try your best not to get spoiled cause the nature of how oda writes his story is done best when you have just about as much awareness of the world as luffy does 😂. Nami's moment asking for help and the walk to along park is truly an amazing scene, and a lot of the content sense has made it look a little weak in comparison imo. Hope yall enjoy
Thank you for your comment. That's what is great about stories like One Piece. Stories like this can inspire and change lives. And there are characters that everyone can identify with. Oda did and continues to do an amazing job!
13:23 Not the whole season. He’ll be a main villain for at least the first arc(whether that arc is one episode or two) and then he’ll basically have a role similar to Garp’s role in season 1, most likely. The *actual* main villain of season 2 is regarded by many as the best villain in the entire franchise, or at least one of the best. Though there is something he has in common with this character you’re talking about
As One Piece fan half my life reading the manga and watching the anime it be always my number One later on it does have dark moments But it always comes back with different emotions in it.
The way they leaned into the campy-ness helped to sell it, I think. It helps with the immersion and gets audience to be more accepting of the wilder stuff that will come. Fav character in general is Luffy in all his iterations, but the character I was surprisingly enjoyed seeing was Helmeppo in the live action. The actor did a phenomenal job with portraying the character. I didn't expect that we'd get to see his character growth story and developing friendship with Coby bc we only see glimpses of it in the manga chapter cover art and not at all in the anime. The writing for it in the live was so well done too, imho, and it makes me wonder if they'll include the plot of cover art stories in future seasons (I hope so, bc some ended up being pretty important to the build up of the main plot). I'm really excited for season 2. I just hope we'll get more episodes for it too. 8 seems too little.
Me back in 2016, I was getting in to the Hallyu, which is content/movies/music coming from Korea. I was watching an interview with Jimin, a member of BTS, when the interviewer asked him, Who did you want to be when he grew up? Kind of like, who do you admire? He got really excited to answer the question, when he said, I always wanted to be Roronoa Zoro from One Piece. Until that moment, I had never heard of One Piece. He said he took up martial arts and Kendo because of Zoro. At that moment, I wanted to know more about the One Piece. I'm obsessed with the Live Action and that Eiichiro Oda has kept his hand on the project the whole way.
I have following One Piece since 20 years ago, i know its kind little bit hard to accept for first time. But if you can reach the deep all of that, you would find alot of wonderfull story
I consider myself a hardcore fan of the series. I read the manga week to week and usually watch the anime week to week. I really liked the live action. It's translating over to a completely different medium and came out feeling just like it should. For an expansive world that's already buried in the hearts and minds of a lot of fans, it delivered big time for me. It really captured the spirit of the source. Plain and simple. The music was incredible. They really created a great original score for the show. The sound design was absolutely amazing in this show! I like Usopp because it must've took balls for Oda to write that character in when he was introduced, but the payoff for a lot of fans has been glorious, and it's still not done. I wouldn't have the crew any other way. One Piece is really just an epic piece of fiction. There's so much to it that it easily trasncends the comic book medium in terms of impact. The fact that its been this good for this long, and still keeps getting better, and is a linear story that WILL end. Man the content is insane. So many theories, so much analysis, because it's week to week and we're all reading together and trying to figure out what's gonna happen next. It's a lot of fun. I got my girl into it years ago and we throw theories at each other all the time. I know people who started reading before they had kids, whos kids are now almost grown up and are also caught up, at the same time as their dad. The same exact story, just coming along as it has for the past couple of decades. That's not an experience you can have with a lot of things.
Thank you for the comment and in depth discussion around it. One of the great things about doing this channel is, every once in a while something like One Piece comes along and you get excited to do a video and just talk about enjoying it and getting on for the ride. I look forward to covering more of it.
I undestand if one piece first timer said they dont like usopp, because I, 2 decades ago when I start my one piece journey didn’t like him too. But you know what, there’s something really great happen (maybe will happen in season 3 or 4 of the live action) that will make you realized why eichiiro oda create usopp character like that, that part only will make you love his storytelling even more. After that event, I see usopp as the most relatable character to our reality :)
I recomend you guys read the manga insted of the Anime. Unfortanelly the pacing, soundtrack, some voices, and animation is horrendus. Just get really good in after 900 chapters. Reading the manga you have more context with the cover stories, the flow of Oda narrative is pretty good and fast.
Thank you for that. I enjoy reading more than anything else so that is good information to hear. I started watching the anime but will start reading the manga.
We don't have official confirmation yet but there are rumors that it will come out between Sept 2024 to March 2025. I am hoping we get it in 2024 though. Fingers crossed.
2nd highest selling comic off all time in terms of volumes of books sold, it passed batman some time ago and is sitting at around +500million volumes sold
the one piece anime is rough, the first 300 episodes are pretty good, usually an anime episode adapts about 40-50 comic book pages. So the anime comes out faster than the comic can be made. so its typical for anime to get a new season every 2-3 years. But one piece after episode 300 said : why dont we adapt 25 pages per episode, after episode 550 they started adapting 15 pages per episode and after episode 800 they started doing 10 pages per episode. So there iis a lot of padding and stalling a lot of face reactions, screaming your move, scenery shots and charging your punch for 2 minutes, its unwatchable unless you have your finger glued to the fast forward button
I know where the series is going for season 2: The Straw Hats go to Lougetown which is where Gold Roger died and Luffy goes to see where Gold Roger died and Zoro goes to buy new swords, and he meets this swordswoman who looks like Kuina but isn't and Zoro gets this cursed sword that will be trouble for him exactly one time and never again and the shop owner is so impressed by Zoro that he gives him the best sword in the shop for free and then Zoro had three swords again, and then Buggy and Alvida show up, but Alvida ate a Devil Fruit; The Smooth-Smooth Fruit, and she's all slim and sexy now, and there's this marine captain in town and he has the power to turn into smoke and the swordswoman works for him and they're after the Straw Hats but they get saved by a mysterious man in a green cloak named Dragon and the marine captain go to sea to chase the Straw Hats. Then the Straw Hats enter the Grand Line and they almost died because there was this giant whale blocking the way, and then the Straw Hats get eaten by the whale except for Luffy and Luffy notices the whale has a door that he enters through, and the other Straw Hats meet an old man in the whale's belly and he helps them get out, and then they meet these two Baroque Works agents, Mr. 9 and Ms. Wednesday, and then the old man explains to the Straw Hats about the whale and then tells them they need a log pose, and Luffy has one because Ms. Wednesday dropped hers but then they break it and the old man gives them his log pose, then the Straw Hats agree to take Mr. 9 and Ms. Wednesday to their home in Whisky Peak and the Straw Hats are welcomed and they have a party but it turns out the people in this town are agents of Boroque Works and they're going to kill them but Zoro kicks their asses all by himself, and then Mr 5 and Ms. Valentine show up and they say that there's a spy which they reveal to be Mr. 8 and Ms. Wednesday, she's really the princess of Alabaster, Nefertari Vivi, and Igaram (Mr. 8) begs the Straw Hats to protect Vivi, Luffy and Zoro fight and also beat Mr. 5 and Ms. Valentine with a single punch then Nami ends their fight by punching them out, and Vivi explains the whole situation to the Straw Hats and accidentally reveals the identity of the boss of Baroque Works to be one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Crocodile, and now they're all on the Baroque Works hit list, and Igaram disguises himself as Vivi. but then gets "killed" by Ms. All-Sunday who gives the Straw Hats an eternal pose to an island close to Alabasta because their log pose is pointing to little garden, but Luffy's like "fuck you!" and crushes the eternal pose, and then they go to Little Garden where there are dinosaurs and two giants fighting each other and the Straw Hats have to fight Mr. 5, Ms. Valentine, Mr. 3 and Ms. Golden Week and they win, but Nami gets bitten by a bug and when they leave the island, Nami gets sick and they stop at this snow island called Drum Island to find a doctor, and Luffy has to climb this tall mountain with his bare hands while carrying Nami and Sanji and they get to the top where they meet a talking reindeer called Tony Tony Chopper and a wrinkly old doctor who looks like a witch and they cure Nami and the reindeer's a doctor and they have to fight the former king of Drum Island and they beat him and Luffy asks Chopper to join his crew and he does, then they go to Aabasta and the marine captain from Lougetown is there too, and they meet Luffy's brother and he's really cool and then the Straw Hats fight the remaining Baroque Works agents: Usopp and Chopper vs Mr. 4 and Ms. Merry Christmas, Nami Vs. Ms. Double Fingers, Zoro Vs. Mr. 1, Sanji Vs. Mr. 2 and Luffy Vs. Crocodile and after a long fight they win and end this war that Crocodile caused and then the Straw Hats say their goodbye to Vivi in a very iconic scene and then Ms. All-Sunday snuck on to the ship again and she ends up joining the crew, her name's Nico Robin by the way, and then a ship falls on top of the Straw Hats from the sky which starts the next arc. But they'll probably save that for season 3. I'm sorry, did I spoil too much? oops.
I'd say the live action is a 7.9/10 for now, my ratings will change depending on how they adapt the later arcs. One piece is one of those series where you can go back to the beginning and have a completely different viewing experience because you now know more about the character and why they did the things they do.
It not we are roughly 87% done, but I don't think One piece will be done with the next five years. Incorrect, mistaken, and any other word associate with getting fact upside down. The true season 2 villain is not smoker. It is someone MUCH higher on the danger scale.
One Piece as of today has 1078 episodes in the Anime and 1093 chapters in the Manga. And no it is NOT complete yet. We're in the Final Saga right now in the Manga but it's FAR from over.
I'm trying. We have another video coming up on One Piece, but I know we need to not just mention potential spoilers without giving a warning on the screen.
Usopp translated great to live action, it’s cringe to you because you don’t know his character lol all of the characters are toned down a lot. Usopp is super annoying in anime for a good min lol
I don't mind Usopp, I just didn't like him as much as some of the others. But I could see liking him more in Season 2. The whole story is written well.
The guy on the left think that one piece live action is cringe and that's because netflix try to stick to the manga, but that's wrong because if they really stick to the manga, i bet he will really really hate this show. As an anime watcher and manga reader, i think netflix already tried their best to make this series not cringe for non anime watcher by changing the story plot and the character reactions without changing their personalities. It's possible to make the show better and realistic but then this show will not become "One Piece live action" and the characters in this show are not Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji
Yeah I don't think you can change what the characters really are. Honor the lore of the anime and trust that the audience will be there to watch it. I certainly loved it.

To give context about the length the anime compare to Live Action: SS1 of Live Action covers 44 episodes of anime, which is 4% of total anime length rn.
That is helpful as I am watching the anime now.
I'm excited to see new characters as they are introduced to the story arc
Forgot to mention favorite characters go to zoro and someone we have yet to meet in the live action. Hopefully we can make it to the all blue.
Though there is something he has in common with this character you’re talking about
Gotcha. We will certainly cover more on Season 2 soon as the rumors come out
It's for everyone One Piece is not a mere anime , it's an encyclopedia and puzzle mystery. In reality it is One Piece
I totally agree it's for everyone.
As One Piece fan half my life reading the manga and watching the anime it be always my number One later on it does have dark moments But it always comes back with different emotions in it.
I started watching the anime and will start reading the manga soon.
We really didn't talk about Helmeppo in our video but his character was developed well over the course of the 8 episodes for sure!
Well well well nows the right time to ask a question, You can only choose one and the other is going to disappear from existence. One Piece or BTS.
It sounds like Oda staying involved made a big difference in the Live Action series. My kids like it and they really like Zoro.
I have following One Piece since 20 years ago, i know its kind little bit hard to accept for first time. But if you can reach the deep all of that, you would find alot of wonderfull story
By episode 5, I was hooked. Looking forward to doing more content around it and doing some giveaways as well around it.
I am totally open to liking Usopp. I just didn't feel as strongly about his character in Season 1. I am excited for Season 2 though!
I started watching the anime but will start reading the manga.
when is seoson 2?
We don't have official confirmation yet but there are rumors that it will come out between Sept 2024 to March 2025. I am hoping we get it in 2024 though. Fingers crossed.
2nd highest selling comic off all time in terms of volumes of books sold, it passed batman some time ago and is sitting at around +500million volumes sold
I saw that after our video came out and I am going to cover that in our next One Piece video next week.
the one piece anime is rough, the first 300 episodes are pretty good, usually an anime episode adapts about 40-50 comic book pages.
And running forever 🤣
That's interesting to read about the process. I will watch for it to see what you are referencing
I know where the series is going for season 2:
The Straw Hats go to Lougetown which is where Gold Roger died and Luffy goes to see where Gold Roger died and Zoro goes to buy new swords, and he meets this swordswoman who looks like Kuina but isn't and Zoro gets this cursed sword that will be trouble for him exactly one time and never again and the shop owner is so impressed by Zoro that he gives him the best sword in the shop for free and then Zoro had three swords again, and then Buggy and Alvida show up, but Alvida ate a Devil Fruit; The Smooth-Smooth Fruit, and she's all slim and sexy now, and there's this marine captain in town and he has the power to turn into smoke and the swordswoman works for him and they're after the Straw Hats but they get saved by a mysterious man in a green cloak named Dragon and the marine captain go to sea to chase the Straw Hats.
I'm sorry, did I spoil too much? oops.
Pretty much spoiled season two, it needs to be at least 12 episodes long.
@@ECAstack Sorry. I'm sure they're gonna change some stuff anyway. They definitely did in season 1,
Shhhhhh! lol. Definitely spoiler....
Thanks for watching our video though. We really appreciate it. New video on One Piece news coming soon
If you look at the execution of Gol D Roger, you will also see someone with a green cape. We might see him soon (maybe on season 2? Hehehehe)
Thanks for the spoiler hint!!!!
I'd say the live action is a 7.9/10 for now, my ratings will change depending on how they adapt the later arcs. One piece is one of those series where you can go back to the beginning and have a completely different viewing experience because you now know more about the character and why they did the things they do.
One Piece is the best selling comic books of all time by a single author
Amazing.
it's surpassed batman since. it'll be closing in on superman soon
That's amazing. I will be mentioning that in our next One Piece video next week.
It not we are roughly 87% done, but I don't think One piece will be done with the next five years.
Incorrect, mistaken, and any other word associate with getting fact upside down. The true season 2 villain is not smoker.
It is someone MUCH higher on the danger scale.
Thank you. I will be covering Season 2 villain and casting in our next video probably next week.
Sanji back story is not complete. If the live-action continues to the whole cake island arc, you will get to know sanji complete back story
Sanji was my 2nd favorite character behind Zoro so I'm excited to learn more
One Piece as of today has 1078 episodes in the Anime and 1093 chapters in the Manga.
And no it is NOT complete yet. We're in the Final Saga right now in the Manga but it's FAR from over.
That's crazy that there is that much material to draw from.
Ive been watching the anime and i always find it jarring when people call Luffy a monkey. It was kinda refreshing to hear someone call him Monkey lol.
Thanks for watching our video! I was new to One Piece but really enjoyed it.
Everyone hates ussop and that's a another plot by oda sensei
Ussop just wasn't a character I cared about, yet... he may grow on me.
Smoker isn't a main villain or even really a villain at all. Season 2 will probably have 1 main villain unlike season 1.
I am watching the anime now and i'm interested in the tone they take for Season 2.
16:40 It's second actually
Saw that after we did the video, I will mention that in our next One Piece video coming out next week. Thank you
appreciate the response ... all in the name of One piece supremacy @@thesundownersclub3983
Another 5 years of new one piece mangas
One Piece isn't slowing down. I'm excited for it.
Great show
Top 3 for me in the last few years that I have watched. I really enjoyed it.
Great video
Thank you. We really enjoyed One Piece. I'm excited to do more videos on it maybe do a toy collectible giveaway soon around One Piece.
One Piece is a masterpiece ❤❤
Love it. My favorite thing I have watched since House of the Dragon
You are wrong One Piece is teh 2nd best selling comic of all time only Superman is ahead and its quickly catching up to that.
Yes, I saw that after we did the video. thank you for letting me know. I will make that correction in our next One Piece video.
Avoid spoilers.
It not finished
I'm excited for where it all goes.
ONE PIECE IS REAL 😮🎉
We love it.
it beat batman
I saw that after we did the video. Thanks for letting me know. We will mention it in our next One Piece video for sure. It's a great accomplishment
Wanji
Ussop was really annoying even in the anime/manga
Usopp is awesome but clearly he isn't for everyone...like yourself😅
Is this coming from someone pre or post Enies Lobby.
@@ryanamans5576 I didn't hate Usopp at all. i just liked some of the other characters more than him in Season 1. Who knows, I might end up liking him alot more in future seasons. The show is written well enough for that to happen.
I quite enjoyed seeing his character growth. Bc of how he started, it felt all the more satisfying to see him overcome his obstacles.
@@em5522 exactly this😁
