This song was composed in 1825 with the title "Ellens dritter Gesang", and is one of the seven songs of his op.52 , originally from Walter Scott's poem "The lady of the lake". Later it was arranged with the Catholic prayer "Ave Maria". You can get the original German version here: click.linksyne...
This version is in G Major, suitable for low / medium voices.

Acompañamiento para piano de "Ave María" (D839 n.6), de Franz Schubert (1797-1828). Esta canción fue compuesta en 1825 bajo el título "Ellens dritter Gesang" como parte de su op.52, un ciclo de siete canciones compuestas sobre el poema de Walter Scott "La dama del lago". Más tarde se adaptó el texto de la oración católica "Ave María".
Esta versión está en Sol Mayor, un tono adecuado para voces medias/graves.

Thank you so much for your help in preparing for my performance of this piece. Since I found out that you were playing this piece in G major I use it everyday to practice. Your intro to the your tube video only lists it "for medium to low voices" . I would've preferred that you listed the Schubert Ave Maria in G major because I would've found it sooner. Nevertheless it's a great accompaniment to practice to.

Why don't people play the original version? I can only find a couple doing the German version. You're shipping an entire verse.

+Hlas hlasu You''re right, I've always accompanied the one with the latin text. I hadn't planed to record with 3 strophes because I assume that most people sing latin version, or don't they? Let me know what you think about it :) Thanks for your comment!
+Pianíssim Well... I have first learned to sing it with the latin prayer, but my teacher (who is german) rejected it and would only teach me with the german text. So, as she is a fascinating teacher, I surrendered and forced myself to learn the original text for which it was composed - and soon I absolutly fell in love in it. Now, the latin text seems to me only forced to the melody to make it matching. But - it is my very subjective view. I guess the latin version is perhaps more popular because everyone knows the prayer - so it is easier to learn (?) and some people may not like to sing in german, (parhaps except german people :-) So I don´t really know, how many people would appreciate if you would record it... Germany is quite big though.
