DISCLAIMER: the mean prank was planned for weeks, was first suggested by Rob, and we all found it hilarious, but we also very much complimented his great first paint jobs and made sure he painted several so we didn't destroy his first mini! We didn't think the skit would discourage new participants to the hobby, we were more getting a giggle out of a scenario that made us all laugh, probably because we are always positive and encouraging with each other's participating in the hobby and we feel safe enough with each other to joke in this way, sorry if it came across uncomfortably for you. We love Rob and know he did a GREAT first paint job!!
How could you?! I'll never believe in anything again! THE WORLD IS A LIE! IT'S NOT A SAFE SPACE FOR KIND, AND PEACEFUL PEOPLES! AAAAHHH!
(Seriously though, I love that robot model! So cool looking. I love drawing skeletal machines, mechs, and futuristic guns and blades. This is the kind of Sci-fi I enjoy. Not Star Wars...yuck.🤫)
I think that might have been a little rough for the people watching at home, even if it was a prank.
I don’t know, it was a pretty accurate representation of art school. Actually, more the reviews they make you go through before you can even apply. I think it should be shown before all portfolio reviews. ~laughs over decade old scars~
I thought it was well acted. I was heartbroken. I did not expect these range of emotions from this video. Well done.
that caused me physical pain
Yay! Two Thin Coats. Great video guys 😊
You have your own meme and you know it
THE LORD HATH SPOKEN
Hi Duncan I'm starting a space marine army, following all tour instructions
We love you Duncan!
You know Rob is a great actor when you feel sorry for him even after finding out it was a skit. Don't feel pressured into letting them smash your Necrons Rob! haha, great video guys, some nice beginner friendly tips. Got myself an Everlasting wet palette XL the other day and it's so nice.
I'm thinkin' about getting me an Everlasting wet palette too. I want the big one but **insert cash register noise here** and the little one might be big enough. (maybe)
@@sirbaconbuster Up until now i've used a tiny takeaway container so it's a lot of realestate that I may not need but I just wanted the option. Better to have and not need than the other way and if nothing else the paper will last longer, as I inch across it, before needing changing. Got it through a 3rd party retailer for slight discount and XL was only £9 extra than the standard which isn't too much in this hobby. Saying that I think I'd be happy either way. XL is about A4 paper size and I'd imagine standard is around A5.
"this is a skit we were all in on" just Rob sitting there, 140%sadness in those eyes. >:(
Rob sitting there in his ghetto TtT shirt, with his sad face hit me right in the feels.
OH CRAP i didnt even notice it was made of tape!!!
i really like the ghetto TtT
Man Rob really knows how to do that heartbroken look. I was so convinced for a moment there that you guys just decided to smash it for no reason.
m-method acting
Loving Rob's homemade shirt!
It's an actual design now lol
What he said. You can buy the masking tape tabletoptime shirt from heir merch store. 10% off atm until they move into their new studio 😉
Lol, I just saw ur profile and got rly exited that critical role commented, now I am sad
@@ovrair6340 SORRY! Just another crazy Critter. :D
Oh thank goodness it was a skit. I had never watched you guys before, so this was just about to leave a very sour taste in my mouth. I almost clicked outand was very relived to see that he was in on it. Glad I stuck around.
Rob: "I painted this!"
Dave: [b o n k]
I got a good laugh out of the skit, and I'm glad Rob got to experiment with variations on the color scheme he wants rather than solely going off the box art!
Imagine you are a beginning painter and come into your local hobby shop only for the veterans to grab a hammer and smash your newly painted models.
And then burn it.
But now I have a piece to thrown in when a warrior is destroyed
thats my dream
Tough love. Would you rather get a golden demom?
Id show them why I go to boxing lessons
Everyone talking about the skit in the comments but I can’t get over the “Eiffel Tower” high five 😂
That’s what I think the real topic of conversation should be. lmao
Rob's face when they destroy his mini breaks my heart
Great content.. poor necron warrior :(
RIP shitty necron warrior
You know what else minis can be used for? I just thought about this. Chess pieces. I'm sure it's already been done. I'm not big into the minis or table top stuff like this but it's cool seems fun. Different take on chess pieces would just be cool.
Absolutely. I love custom chess pieces, my dad had ones with highly detailed sculpts of each piece, in human form.
A little constructive criticism and general comments for you:
1. With OSL - less is more, you get a better effect overall by making the glow smaller - the further away it is from the source the more of the underling colour should show - so less of the white stippling.
2. When undercoating a section in white before painting its a good idea to apply multiple coats or even better to start with a grey then move to white. Change the grey to light brown for warm colours or light blue for cold colours.
3. That base was awesome
happy painting gents.
Even though the final result (black+blue) looks awesome, I still think the bronze version might look better anyway with some practice. Ultimately, it is Rob's decision to choose a color scheme he likes. Alas poor necron, I hardly knew ye.
I kinda wish they still did the bronze/gold look instead of the silver, but it looked so good
Yeah, rather than helping a newbie improve their initial design, they kind of ran off and did their own thing
@@hjewkes That was the boxart from the learn to paint set - The black and blue scheme is the one Rob wanted to paint, and we showed him how to do it using simple techniques for a new painter
@@narratordave7831 Ah good to know. I think since Rob is really only in the video for the initial gag, it isn't really clear if or how he was involved in any of the future design or execution. In future, it would be great to include a little context from Rob (or whoever) on what they want to achieve. My interpretation from the video was just that "other people paint them black instead". Still loving the content, just would have loved to here more from rob beyond the initial gag
i love your channel. you've inspired me to start mini paintings and I'm really loving it
Hahahahahaha “DO BETTAH!”….smashes with hammer. *Dies inside* Jazza, feigning sympathy or so it seems, proceeding to light his smashed dreams on fire. I have never laughed that hard while feeling so sorry for someone in all my life! That was priceless. Someone needs to make a GIF immediately….
1:00
"Do better "
I was so shocked 10/10
I want to give Rob a hug.
0:59 😂🤣 Loved this video, learned something new and thoroughly entertained!!👌
That looks great in the end; proof that a nice base can make pretty much and mini look better; and a tidy rim makes a mini look finished.
Seeing all the 40k minis lately is really making me want to get back into the game...or at least painting them. Anyways Rob, looking forward to seeing your necron army grow to epic proportions!
I better not show dave my first mini paint
I don't mind. Mine was back when they made them out of steel.
If he came with harmmer🙀
have been mini painting a lot after i received my mega minis box, so I'm loving table top time and the excess of mini vids! Love u guys
Love this episode! The dynamic between you three is magic.
I like Rob's color scheme over all better. Lets see the glow effects applied with that color scheme :)
Yo! I am in dire need of some of these pro tricks too!
I scoffed so hard when Jazza called me pro because people like you exist!
@@narratordave7831 aw, I feel bad now, I was just memeing! I really love that people just have fun with this hobby and paint to whatever standard they enjoy - that's what most important, not how many hours we invest. I am just a crazy nerd with an obsession. lol.
I was horrified by the destruction of the necron.
RIP you will be remembered
no joke, that destroyed necron would be a cool base for something else, a space marine or even another necron
Wow Rob looked so hurt!
Being a "Rob" who is new to this hobby, i definitely understand and associate with the Rob in this video.
Thanks for the lesson. i am enjoying painting my Necrons and these were some good ideas. Thank you!
Rob: paints a Xenos
Jazza and Dave: "Burn in holy Fire!! - Feel the Emperors Wrath!!"
The mallet to the necron had me spitting out my drink, insta subbed.
Anyone else hear the sad puppy song while looking into Robs sad eyes? “In the arms of an angel”
This came at a fantastic time, I'm literally getting into Warhammer this month, starting with Necrons, with a Black, Cyan and Silver look
I love the crackle bases, for my necrons I used shades of green and some resin crystals on the bases then put mordant earth over top and it showed up really well
Skill level: Rob
Yay my names in the video! I really love this I’ve been trying to do glows and watching this really helps, I wasn’t applying enough white to my glowing areas
i love the logo on Rob's t-shirt is literally just tape
I died laughing when Dave smashed Rob's mini and said "Do better." I love these guys. You can tell it's out of love and a fun bit.
I loved the skit lmao just now getting into painting these and laughed a lot!
Amazing! Love how the necrons look! Also damn that intro, Rob seemed so sad
Thanks for the Salamander painting tutorial at the beginning!
Oh Lord I *LOVE* This base! so simple yet so amazing! I will replicate it 110% guaranteed!
I could see the pain in Daves eyes as he smashed that necron
Dave with that mallet 😂
F For the fallen necron warrior Jk hes a necron he was revived
I love this videos, I really hope I get to make my own minis sometime, I will definitely follow your example!
TBH his first mini was already really nice and I prefer his first one, but thats completely subjective.
And your attempt, sure its nice too, but its completely different and you can't compare it. - sometimes you just have s newbie do his thing to let him develope an own style, since he will now try to replicate that "new" and "better" version, instead of trying things by himself.
I think something that got left on the cutting room floor is the explaination that 1) Rob only painted his necron that way because it was what the boxart said on his 'learn to paint necron warriors' pack. and 2) He wants to paint the Thokt dynasty, which is how the second necron appears. We showed him 3 different ways to approach OSL and loaded him up with heaps of different basing materials. It comes off a little like "No paint it like this" when in reality there was a heap of discussion about how to use different techniques to achieve different effects. In fact the whole second model was like a 1 hour crash course in drybrushing, line highlighting and then basic OSL.
Tabletop Time - 1 Necron - 0
This effect alone, and this video is literally enough to make me want to purchase the Indomitous Box.
I have never tried to paint miniatures buuuut I've been learning a lot from the discord server just by listening to the pros :D
I love how Rob, the noob, gets a Table Top Time t-shirt made with tape. I want that shirt! 2XL please.
Nvrmnd. I want whatever drugs Jazza is on.
finally someone shows how to do a glow with brushes!
i liked the bronze plate armor look
LMFAO. Had to hit the like button when the hammer dropped. Have felt like doing this to so many of my own necrons here recently as I have been learning to paint them.
YES!
U SHOWED ME THE GRADING ON WET PALLET! Thank U Been Tryin This For A Month U Straight Nailed It Thank U
The funniest thing about this video for me is that Rob's initial paint job looked better than the fancy one, in my completely amateur opinion, having only ever painted 12 necrons about a decade ago as the extent of my mini painting. The base was way cooler on the second one, but I preferred Rob's color scheme, and thought the lighting effects were too busy.
Rip robs "shity Necron" March 22nd 2021 you will be missed
So..the Tyranids have developed a weapon that crushes and burns Necrons...damn Tyranids you scary.
My new favorite channel , smash n burn more minis!
In my experience for osl just use contrast, it gives you an intense deep colour, I wish UA-cam would let me post a pic of my crons, it's super easy to get a great looking osl, especially if you use a dark colour for the main part of the unit
That was... a start. "This... /was/ Rob."
Rob, for a first pain Job it was Great... and you looked so Done... and like you kinda wanted to Cry, so Jazza and Dave are Evil or you're an amazing actor, or both... who knows. love you all you're all amazing ❤️❤️
"This is a skit we were all in on" except Rob kek *rolls credits*
I was genuinely worried about Rob until you all broke the tension. You lot are my favourite bunch of nerds love you guys
I liked Rob's first attempt more honestly. The bronze and simple look was rad.
Everyone talking about the pain in the eyes of Dave in the skit.
No one is talking about the pain of beginners who watch this video and thought his paint job actually looks pretty good in comparison to their own models, just bevor the other guys tell him how much he sucks.
[Edit:] Just looked further and seeing how Jazza says that this is actually a brilliant start for a beginner. Though, still feel the punch.
I love the taped TTT t-shirt! :)
Destroying that model had me laughing my a off. LMAO
Something fun and frosty is GreenStuff World’s liquid frost!! It’s super fun and easy to use!
I'm not convinced the new paintjob is better...
The first one looks way better lol
I like the original more. The blue and tan is nice
I didn't mind the copper colouration of the armour.
It needed a bit of work, but I don't think it needed to be replaced with black.
Loved it haha, poor Rob
i loved the start
It’s 2 am for me rn lol but I love tabletop time so it’s okay lol
I feel like every outro needs those bloopers at the end
Apart from the gun being better 2nd time around I preferred the first model 🤣
If it helps Rob feel better - when I first started playing I was using cans of tomato as terrain and when I was packing up I somehow managed to drop one on a squad of pink horrors I had just started painting 🙃
The look on Rob's face, I was totally heartbroken for him.
New Necron model, t-1000 jelly mode 😯 i want xD
"Eiffel tower!" said Jen the Fredo ;)
I legit CRIED when they destroyed his first little thingy😭 (im new at this)
The crushed necron would make for a pretty cooler base
Fuck yeah, this is my favorite time!
You are mad, guys! 😂👍🏻
Honestly I like the armor on Robs version and the weapon on the new version.
I thought the same thing. I guess the all-black thing is how they are lore-wise or something? Dunno, but the gold is cool and more interesting to look at for me.
If you do a layer of pva glue on top of the paint and under the crackle medium it give you really nice big juicy cracks (tee hee) and helps prevent the crackle paint chipping off
I don't come for the painting, I come for the banter.
A little part of me just died watching that poor Necron get smashed an torched. 😭 Warhammer is so expensive, bruhhh. 😭
Both look great
Res orb, RES ORB NOW
Can the official outro please be “AHH!” That was perfect.
I liked the "before" way better in almost every way. I really can't stand OSL on table top minis. The one part that I think looks better is the blue part on the weapon with the color gradient to infer intense light inside.
Awesome!
I am definitely a rob level painter. But these are so helpful!!
Tbh Dave needs like his own day of the week
