I agree with you tradition and culture is very important, don't lose you Newfoundland food culture on account that this generation does not enjoy it. While Newfoundland is becoming diluted with newcomers. This should not be a means to get rid of Newfoundland food culture, your food culture is steeped in Irish roots. I like some occasional different style of flavours. But I always go back to the ways of my culture which is from my grandparents coming to Canada 80yrs ago. Its just good to have resilience in your culture! Look at the UK, 95% of their food is now being adapted by a non traditionalists methods. and their culture is non existent. Its paramount and key to tradition to give this generation and next generation their rightful place in Canadian cuisine. You also have partrigdge berries in Newfoundland, which we can't get in Ontario....so there you go. A great culture Newfoundland!! God bless
I purchased my grandparents dining room table and chairs many years ago. Still love it. Many a good meal with friends and family has taken place and continues to take place around this table. In an old photo album I found a photo of me as a little girl sitting on my dad’s knee eating at this very table.
This looks wonderful. I love a good stir fry. I am an American who lives in the south of the U.S. We have vast gardens here. I grew up eating fresh cooked foods, but also Mexican, Chinese, and Italian restaurants everywhere. A mixed culinary experience here. The food you and your sweet parents make is delicious. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you doing this.
Great video traditional food is the best but it is good to try new things also and as far as family time I think people have forgot to make time for it and it is important also have a great day be safe.
Oh my goodness Spumante bambino I didn’t know they still made that!! I used to drink that back when I was a whole lot younger it was the sweetest wine we ever had. But you are right growing up we used to eat very basic meat and potatoes and a vegetable. Unfortunately a lot of this generation is accustomed to eating out or eating processed or frozen foods. I think it’s important to eat as a family and to sit without the tv on or a phone in either parents hands or children’s. I think we have to cook from scratch because it’s the most economical way of eating because the price of food is getting beyond outrageous in Canada. It’s true people are living further away from one another and that’s why a lot of the families can’t get together the way they used to and parents just don’t have the time to cook them. People are working harder and longer hours and things are costing more and more. Some of the reason some of the traditional meals are being drifted away from because they aren’t as healthy as they could be. However I find that it’s very important recreate a lot of the traditional meals with more healthy ingredients. My suggestion would be to skip the Spumante bambino and just add some honey. I absolutely loved the time when I grew up and we would go to my grandparents and all my aunts and uncles and cousins would be there and we would have a great time! ❤️🥰🇨🇦🙏🏻🍁
Good morning and Thank You again for the wonderful video. We live in Alberta but are retiring back to Nfld this summer. Not sure if you are interested in meeting some of your subscribers but my wife and I would love to pop in along our way to meet you and your folks. Always love to see your parents and how they get incorporated into your videos. You are a great orator, you bring us into your shed and lives every week. Today when you were speaking about grandparents helping cook you reminded me of my wife’s grandmother. Maybe when the seals come you can get some flippers to cook or even be a little more adventurous and cook a carcass. My wife’s grandmother used to get one every year and cook. We really enjoy your videos and your parents. I am a fan of your Dad lol, always the underdog and the brunt of you and your mom’s fun pokes.
I like to cook from scratch most meals...We eat out rarely...I cook meals where we can eat leftovers...I plan to start making sour dough bread...I make pizza crusts and cinnamon buns from scratch...One of my favourite meals is boiled dinner...I use cottage rolls in mine...Unfortunately I don't like any seafood but wish I did...Your meals always look so good...Your Mom is a fantastic cook...I plan to make her kraft pasta salad...I have a box in my cupboard and plan to cook a ham this week, so will make for lunch one day after that...Look forward to future videos.
Well I got my squid so tonight it’s stuffed squids !!!!!! Gonna do 12 they are pretty big. I will probably eat 10 😂. Love the video as always and the recipe 👍😎👌👏
We only eat fresh food, homemade food. We have allergies and intolerance to so many things, we can't eat out or buy frozen meals and we wouldn't even if we could. Nothing beats homemade. Simple quality ingredients made with love and shared with loved ones.
Oh my this looks delicious. My mouth is watering right now. I do the same thing making stir fry adding different foods every time. It has to be homemade from scratch. Love your videos please keep sharing . It's wonderful seeing the whole family in the kitchen cooking together😊❤
I really think my country loves Mexican food. Many people have a taco or quesadilla night. I don't like Mexican food. But I do like Chinese food. I haven't had it in ages. Your stir fry looks delicious. I think it was well put together with lots of nice veggies. I like the baby corn. Growing up in New England we had fish abundantly and new England boiled dinner. Yuck. I ate it though. I prefer creating my own creation no eating out of boxes .
Experimenting can be fun! Try adding okra to the mix, adds a natural thickener. Try a curry Indian dish! But keep doing those family recipes, they are treasures. Food is your history!
I cook everyday for my family and we eat together every chance we get . It all depends on everyone’s work schedules ❤we do not eat out I make it homemade
Now my buddy another delicious meal , loves a good stir fry made a thousand don't know I've ever made two the same lol. Depends on what's in the cupboard and fridge lol. Yeah my wife and I was just trying to remember what we ate growing up , we were really isolated on the South Coast, there were no roads connecting us , well we were on an island but there wasn't even a road connecting Hermitage our closest community we had to wait until the coastal boats came down the coast or the occasional freight boat. But the store shelves always seemed to be stocked I know we didn't eat much canned goods, vegetables were carrot, turnip, and potatoes we ate a lot ....a lot....of fish. Chicken was a Sunday meal. Turrs, moose, caribou ducks, and bread 🍞...no keto diet lol. This video really triggered a lot of memories.

So true about the foods we grew up with . When they started the sprung greenhouse most Newfoundlanders didn’t know what a cucumber was .
Yes, and most of Newfoundland is made up of a lot of small communities, and most people grew the basics
