I realize a lot of this is personal taste but I prefer much of the image as it was in the original. The end result looks too much like an 'edited' image and I prefer enhancing an image rather than an obvious transformation. In particular, I find it difficult to reconcile the fact that the light is obviously coming in low from the left side behind the mountain, and you emphasised that, but then there is too much light on the slope and trees on the left than is possible with that light source. Also I am not sure why you have placed so much emphasis and unrealistic light on the figure. It is not doing anything interesting and is best used to show the scale of the landscape around, for which there is no need to make is stand out like that, somewhat unnaturally. But anyway I seem to be in the minority.

Respectable opinion. My thought process: the raw I started with was quite underexposed to keep the sky from blowing out which exaggerated the shadows on the subject and the slope on the left. So in the editing process I wanted to achieve a better balance of light bringing that exposure back up to bring out both the subject and the color in the larch trees. In general there isn’t much for interesting light going on in the frame and the main parts of the image are the subject and peaks for scale and the larch trees which are bright yellow for only a few weeks each fall.
While the before and after are quite different in look the after is more representative of how the scene looked to my eye and I shot it in camera darker knowing I was going to bring it back to this while making sure I keep an even exposure through shadows and highlights.
I agree with your perspective but that’s just a look into my thoughts since there really wasn’t much interesting light to use naturally from my perspective. It’s also an adventure landscape shot so I believe you want the subject to easily seen.
Thanks for your thoughts though i appreciate it
