Summer On A Chalk Stream

- Former River Keeper and Fly Fishing Instructor and Guide Simon J Ward always wanted to have a regular season rod on a chalk stream. In 2017 for the first time he at last realised that wish. Fishing a delightful but challenging piece of fishing. This film is the result of his season.
The segment on the Mayfly reminded me that in Scotland, many years ago, watching the Salmon leap upstream, a ghillie remarked to me, " 'Tis just another miracle." I have never forgotten that.
I’m new to this channel and look forward to re-watching the videos again and again- excellent.
Excellent in every way. Well done SIr. I’ve been fortunate to have fished some of your chalk streamed and have wonderful memories.
Beautifully produced. Thank you 🙂
A beautiful film in the cradle of fly fishing. Thanks for sharing the experience Simon.
Excellent video Simon. It epitomises the true pleasure of fly fishing. I think, one of the best fly fishing videos on UA-cam. From another of the class of 1950!
Great video Simon! Love your presentation and you still have the same enthusiasm of that 8 year old catching the flounder, brilliant! Love to fish with you one day. up the year 1950 I say.
Great hatching mayfly footage! After a rain with off-color water the fish are probably full on worms.
Thank you Simon for an informative and very pleasant presentation, do you catch many for the table?
Very nice video!
Beautiful film thank you. Very melancholic music ...whats that about ? Fly fishing is not sad !
Very well filmed and very well fished! 2018 will be my first full season on the rivers in Derbyshire, and I can't wait! Out of interest what was your most productive dry flies from 2017? Tight lines for 2018
All the best.
Thank you Luke. I only used 3 patterns during the 2017 season on the Frome. We had large grannom hatches in April, for which I devised my own imitation size#14. That was a new dressing for me I just made it up, one evening. It was very successful. Mayfly in May and June I used a pattern I have been evolving for twenty old years a tweak here a tweak there. It has evolved into a soft hackle dry emerger in sizes #12 and #14. My other go to pattern is a CDC emerger in sizes #16 #18 and 20# these too I have evolved over twenty odd years too. And cover the olive hatches. I could give you chapter and verse on how to tie them, but not on here. I have notes on how I fish these and how to tie them. I am on facebook though. PM me. Kind regards Simon.
I hope your still fishing
Beautifull
Thank you Eileen!!
Very private..by by.
Why did river keeper simply cut the hell out of the ranunculus?
Jesus, someone needs to get to work pulling out that Balsam...
Private, private ...private.
I had that privilege...etc.
It's like showing off with Ferrari.
UK's water rules are the worst around the Europe.
Hope You enjoyed, sir !
The common riffraff are not allowed anywhere near the water in merry old England, it’s only for the rich whites. Shameful.
