Thank you for this informative video, but is "focusing on common ground" going to be enough to counteract the billions in spending from fossil fuel companies denying climate change and spreading continued division?
"Conservative media criticizes the evidence and proposal for reducing carbon emissions..." Yes, but the real question I have is WHY? Before the early 90's fossil fuel companies didn't seem to have a problem. What was it that caused them to believe that hanging on to the past was a better financial gain than moving into the future? Understanding that better is a key to making change happen.
No fossil fuel burning company wants a market shakeup that could dislodge their dominance in the market. And owners are confident as bad as climate change gets, their kids’ fortunes will shield them. It’s rational behavior if you’re selfish.
@@mr7clay But the shakeup is already here. And they CAN see the writing on the wall. Pretending that fortunes will protect them from extreme heat and weather changes that can not only end up killing their potential employees but even themselves doesn't seem very logical or make much business sense. Sigh.
@@omahasternberg3061 They’re unfathomably wealthy and nearly everyone they know well is highly motivated (a) to believe the few crank scientists who say climate change is disconnected from their actions or (b) to believe despite what they do, they can’t stop their American competitors nor China and India so why give up a fortune and disappoint thousands of employees and possibly be despised if the disaster is inevitable anyway? If the plane is going to crash very slowly over generations, why give up your first class seats?
