    Your lack of branding and advertising is refreshing and a big part of why I enjoy your content but I'm not sure I share the same sentiment you had on wearing merch. Buying and wearing merch for me feels like a small thank you to the artist/creator for all the joy they might bring into our lives.

      i agree with the buying merch thing. I agree with Dave, if I were buying from creators that i dont really like / want to support. I wouldnt want to be a walking billboard for creators i dont like. on the other hand, if i deem a creator "worthy" of my money and my advertisement, that means that i genuinely think the creator deserves it. its who i wish to be associated with, in a way.

      I feel very much the same. I absolutely DESPISE marketing and advertising. I feel they do nothing for society other than increase FUD and class warfare. But, I am all for supporting an individual or company that strives to do what's right. I still despise their marketing because inevitably it will be manipulative and rely on FUD, but if I am the one seeking out a product I will support them if their product is good. It is so hard to find good products though because of all the manipulation and I find most reviews aren't honest either. Makes it tough.

    I tried my hand at screen printing last year and it's a magical process. At some point in the future I'll have a space that I can dedicate to doing more. Rather than using the painting or photo method, I used a hand cut stencil which worked pretty well for a first attempt (and for a single shot).

    Oh one more. Photo emulsion with modern diazo emulsion is much easier, no darkroom required. Speedball has a kit with the appropriate lamp and if you can print transparencies it’s a game changer if you don’t mind the wash out process. I do admire your dedication to the hand painted process!

    This is the way i first did screenprinting. Had a speedball kit that came with some of this stuff. Its actually fun and a low tech way to get in to printing. Speedball also made this stuff i think they called it drawing fluid? Its like a liquid masking fluid. So you paint the areas you want ink to go through, let it dry, and then coat the whole screen with blockout fluid, let dry and then rinse out the drawing fluid. Might be a little easier. Some other alternative diy screenprinting methods are using paper stencils or id youre facy vinyl stencils. Paper can be pretty sloppy with the registration and doesnt hold up over long periods of time, but ive done small runs of posters using paper stencils. Ive never used vinyl but i imaging it just is a more accurate and stronger version of the paper stencil. Another thing you could do aswell to save some time is instead of using blockout for the whole screen, you can use tape to block out large swatches of unused screens.

      @peoplecallmepeechez День тому +1

      We also generally call them screen printing presses. I would also either get some of that sticky pallet paper like you were talking about, or cover your platen with some paper because lint does build up over time and it's a pain to clean it off of the platen directly. Also I don't know if your using plastisol ink or not, but a simple way to check if the ink has fully cured after you are done printing is to give it a little stretch. If the ink cracks after a little stress it didn't get up to temp and needs to be heated up again. Sorry for all of this I just enjoy screen printing especially diy printing

      @@cinodrome that's one thing I like about it for sure. the base knowledge and skills needed to transfer ink from a screen to some other substrate is relatively little, but there are so many different techniques and processes you can use depending on what tools/resources/equipment you have available to you that there is always more to try out and learn.

    1:41 i don't mind supporting small creators. I bought Ben Krasnow's first shirts, still have them. To me, when peeps like you put stuff like this out, it's less about branding and more like "i'm commemorating a moment in time". I only recently learned about Aphantasia, and I need to learn more. The diagnostic information just doesn’t make any sense to me. You’re telling me that people close their eyes and actually “see” objects? I feel like the discussion suffers from an inability to describe sensations, like being asked what it’s like to smell something. Either that or I have Aphantasia myself and can’t begin to imagine what the hell everyone else is experiencing.
