I would be fine this this game being decent at best, which it is, but the problem is they hyped it to the point where it was almost false advertising. "Brand new experience" = LIE "Let's put Chaos and Shadow in the E3 trailer" = Can't fight them. "This game will not be short" = LIE "Shadow is fighting for his own reasons" = LIE "4 years of development" = Doesn't seem like it "From the people that brought you blah blah" = Not the same level designers so basically LIE There are more lies, but you get the point. This game should be great/amazing and it's disappointing that it's not.
How I would fix Sonic Forces: 1. (Obviously) Make the levels longer or add more locations. 2. Have special missions with a different character in each mission so they won't be useless or just have an option to play different characters in past levels. 3. Use all of the bosses! Not just Zavok and Chaos, but all of the Deadly Six, all of Chaos' forms, and even bosses from other past games. 4. Don't forget the Chaos Emeralds! Fans want to play as Super Sonic in the story, not just as a DLC.
Well the deadly six aren’t really “loved” and even if they are it doesn’t really make sense to bring them back I mean while they were the main villains they were also sidekicks to zavok. Also chaos didn’t have a boss battle so...
1. The deadly six aren't really loved in the fanbase actually they are the most forgettable bosses in the franchise. 2. Super Sonic is useless because the phantom ruby is stronger the chaos emerald(s) so he wouldn't be need if he is useless but I would like to have Super Sonic in the story 3. I would also like to have sonic's friends be in the game but didn't we not want sonic's friends in the games anymore? Don't get me wrong I would love to play as Sonic's friends but we had Sonic's friends in modern games and Sonic 06, Heroes, Boom, and Shadow the Hedgehog showed how Sega executes Sonic's friends and they would either give them an annoying gimmick like the level you play as amy and tails in Sonic 06 or they would just use them for side missions but make them unplayable like in Sonic Generations. 4.I remember when the adventure games and Shadow the Hedgehog even in Sonic 06 people complained that the levels were too long and some of the new locations were useless to progress through the story. But in Sonic Generations They had a perfect blend of keeping the levels open and fun but the game was still too short because it only had 12 stages you actually play (not counting the special stages cause those are a one and done). If Sonic Forces had Generations level design it would've been the best modern game today but since Sonic Team fired most of the level designers over time and hired new level designers that were drained of their creativity. 5. Yes, Forces could've been better with out classic sonic because that means the level desingers would've had less stress on the developing the game. If sonic team stuck with Sonic and Custom character there would be more levels since they would just have to make levels for two characters and they could add some new gimmicks with each level being fun and memorable 6. Technically the boost is an addition to the adventure game play think about it when you're not boosting you are basically playing as the adventure style Sonic since Sonic is still building momentum and he has platorming sections that can fun (Generations and half of Colors) and the ....... well boring (Forces and the other half of Colors) but the only thing is modern sonic doesn't really have upgrades and he can't spindash or light dash "attack" My opinion of Sonic Forces 6.2/10 it was going the right direction for the series but it was executed so poorly it was like the developers and writers were lazy and were uninspired. I think Sega needs to start hiring a new cast of people who can has worked on a 3d sonic game and know how write a story with a mix of edge a light hearted ness like the games Sonic Before the Sequel and After the Sequel they aren't 3D but it knows how to execute a Sonic really good and it has a beautiful sountrack. ;)
You ultimately summed up the problem with Forces; great concepts that were never developed to even 1/2 of their best potential. In Infinite's case, his theme song to me when I heard it over the summer tells the tale of a man broken beyond repair that wishes to take revenge on the world that took everything away from him, and when we see his history I was like, "That's it...that's what happened to him?" I mean sure, the loss of his squad was tragic for him but he always kept talking about how he wanted revenge for Shadow calling him weak, not the death of his squad. There are ways they could've taken Infinite's backstory and made it tragic, but we really need a DLC for Infinite from before he got the Phantom Ruby. In the comic it's shown that he did have a hidden desire for the world to burn and in Episode Shadow it's revealed that he was also called the Ultimate Mercenary, both the comic and Eggman attesting to Infinite's skills. So why though, was he tired of the world forcing him and his squad to thievery despite his exceptional skills? Was his dislike for being called weak stemming from a hard life that scarred him and forced him into that lifestyle? Was his hatred for stagnation brought about by the people's over reliance on Sonic the Hedgehog, who he viewed as no different than himself and joined Eggman to show the world their foolishness to continuously rely on him? I mean, after Sonic lost to Infinite it is stated that most people gave up in fear of Infinite, Tails supposedly losing it.
Actually, infinite's story is not complete, there's more. In the comic infinite says something like ''there are some things that I don't like about this world''. In the next game infinite appears, his complete story will be told(I hope so).
Apparently, the localizers took some liberties with the script. Sonic being "dead," Tails going crazy, and Sonic being tortured were all in the US script, not the Japanese script.
Charriii, did you forget how great the visuals in Sonic Unleashed were? They definitely topped Generations. It was the hedgehog engine at its peak. The production values for Unleashed topped every Sonic game to date.
It seems to me that at some point, somehow Tails turned into Ashley Graham with a laptop. He's been needing saving more than once in Forces alone. Sonic 2 & 3 he's the co-op partner to help you out and fight enemies/bosses. SA1, Tails beats Chaos 4 AND defeats Eggman's giant robot to save Central City, and got a Chaos Emerald for it. May I remind you that Tails being able to do stuff like beat Eggman without Sonic was a sort of character arc that happens in SA1. SA2 Tails helps out a ton by defeating enemies and Eggamn in his mech as well as come up with plans and making the fake Chaos Emerald. In Heroes Tails helped Sonic and Knuckles throughout the game to fight enemies and bosses, as well as fought to defeat Metal Overlord. What the hell happened? Did all of that take place in an alternate dimension too? Granted that's all I could think of off the top of my head so I might have missed stuff since I've never been a huge Sonic guy and and I haven't played any of the games I mentioned in YEARS.
You know what would've been cool? if we got the Sonic Heroes formula for this game. like you had all the chatacters necessary for the teams except Team Rose. so they could've did like different stories with each team carrying out different operations around the world. that would've been dope.( and with Silver and Amy, they could've just paired them up like in 06 i guess)
yo bro that shit would of been tight, honestly that's what forces should of been. This is why sonic team need to hire intenationally, fucking fans have better ideas then a supposed professional gaming company!
Michael Talley Having a Heroes formula in an Adventure settings would be cool. Less teams would be good because we can flesh out the abilities more. The story in Forces is awesome because it reminds me of Sonic SatAm and the Archie stories.
Baldy McNosehair I do have to admit that Infinite's backstory was lame. Sega seemed not to have a problem with dark stories as Sonic Adventure 2 and Gerald's execution. I wonder why they wimped out with Infinite's origin?
FOrces is average. But I am disappointed that it didn't live up to the hype. CLassic Sonic is easily the worst part of the game. He did not need to be there and he could've been replaced by I don't know... BLaze!. since they were using the whole Phantom Ruby fucking with DImentions thing, or they could've just focused on the Avatar and Modern Sonic.
As much as it would've been awesome for her to be in there, what purpose would Blaze would had? She wouldn't have connected to anything and there has to be a reason for her to be there, otherwise she would've been just like Silver.
Codebox42. They could've had the Phantom Ruby warp to the Sol DImention at the end of Mania. where Blaze was guarding the Sol Emeralds. Then the Phantom RUby suddenly appears and it messes with the SOl Emeralds, opening a portal and it sucks Blaze into the Modern DImention. That probably isn't much better. but... I easily would've picked Blaze or SOnic's friends over CLassic Sonic. He's only in this game because Generations sold well. This better be the last time we see him in a Modern Sonic game. Give Classic SOnic a new series where he can do his own thing in the CLassic Universe while Modern can do his own thing. They don't need to be tied to each other anymore. Especially Classic since he has Taxman and the Mania team that will most likely stick around since Mania did very well.
Actually the only person not taking anything seriously, was Sonic. He's the main character so course most dialogue would be coming from him and he's mostly joking. Everyone else was taking things seriously but Sonic kills it, and in turn makes you think the story doesn't take itself seriously.
Zavok's boss fight had him sitting on his butt and letting the giant bee robot fight for him. Metal Sonic's boss fight was 90% similar to Infinite's final fight. I have a strong feeling these 4 returning villains were all added in relatively late in development.
Just want to inform you about a 2 things. 1) It was revealed that 3 of the 4 years were spent on the engine and conceptualizing, and only ONE year of actual development of the game. And it really shows! 2) The writers of this story are not actually Pontact and Graff, but otherwise new writers who did not write for Sonic before. However, I feel like they took inspiration from Color-onward stories though, not to mention the story was more than likely rushed. Good video.
Charii, you got one thing wrong (twice) about the writting. they are NOT using the writters from Colors. one of them was responsible for adapting the dialogue. but they had no influence or involvement in the plot. As for the "they can't be serious", I kinda blame it on Roger's performance as Sonic, all of the other actors got much better and, credit where it's due, he did get better, but he still doesn't know how to sound serious (I played the game with the Japanese dub, and that Improved the characterization by a million). Overall, My feelings are similar to yours. I liked the game overall, but I WAS disappointing.
OttoeCamn I feel that Roger did ok. He gave Sonic his cocky attitude back and didn't make him sound like a douchebag. But I feel that the story directors forgot to tell him that Sonic suffered 6 months of torture. In fact, I think the writers themselves forgot what they were doing half the time, gave up, and just did a "my friends are my power" story.
he did improve, I'm not denying that, but his performance still falls a bit flat in more emotinal moments, one that stands out for me is at the beginning of Null Space, in the american dub, he sounds confident and cocky like always, but in the japanese dub he sounds more calm, he says "partner.... this is where we're meant to end" there's a pause there, there's a serenity there along with the confidence that everything will be all right. it's kinda hard to explain. just take a listen to the japanese dub and you'll see what i mean.
no, I played the game in Japanese; and while my japanese isn't perfect, I was able to pick up some different stuff. but yeah, the english Script did make things worse.
another thing, if you see the scene in which Shadow beats the crap out of infinite in japanese, Infinite sounds WAAAY more terrified , when he starts shouting "I'm not weak" his voice is shaky and it literally sounds like he's going insane. which again, is much better than the english dub.
I personally loved Forces, despite all its flaws, but you're the first who states my exact problems with the game. A lot of good ideas, but everything was wasted. Honestly, I find myself frustrated with not wanting to move on from Forces because I think so much potential could be salvaged from it, especially the story and just taking Classic Sonic out of the mix. There could be so much more to Infinite's backstory, so much more to Episode Shadow, so much more to the main campaign, so much more with the Avatar's relevance, so much more with the level design, and general physics fixes. And that's really all it is. "This could have been so much more.".
Well, I'll say this. This game, for me at least, seem to be either the result of a lack of ambition from the development team to make something that could put the prior games to shame, budget constraints or development issues, or (And this seems to be the most likely given the sources) they just didn't have the right people in this game.
I think when people start to compare games like forces to other games like adventure or colors (generations and mania make sense, but really only for classic sonic and a bit of modern sonic for generations) it sets an unrealistically high bar for the game to rise up to that it can't. I understand where a lot of sonic fans are coming from when they say they want more from the developers, but there is no staightforward answers from the fans that allow for the changes to be exact. Right now I see why Sonic Team was hasty with forces, they were testing styles of gameplay to see if they could hit a trend that strikes a cord with the fans (although they shouldn't have fucked up classic that bad with the mania team for reference). Yet the fans aren't giving the feedback that Sonic Team needs to improve, most fans just complain about how it dosent feel like their favorite Sonic game, and in the end Sonic Team tries to make it feel like all of those games all in one. This video is a good example of the opposite scenario, it highlights the good aspects of other Sonic games and what made them good, but leaves out the parts that just bring up nostolgia that can't be replicated. Like the story and characters in Adventure, the gameplay, some level design, and graphics of generations, the level design in colors (maybe not the splitting of the levels though), and the polish of 06 (last bit was a joke). Long story short, good video. We need more people that give an in depth analysis of problems with a game to help it improve instead of just a flat opinion.
6:45 I get where you're coming from with that point about OCs, mine was IN the Sonicverse but was generally detached. When I eventually grew out of the skeevy fan comic part of the community, I evolved that design into a character I roleplay with everywhere else...sometimes that happens. As for Sonic Forces itself, it kinda let me down, but I'll focus what I'd like to see moving forward. Modern Sonic needs less automation and more Generationsesque level design and 2D sections either removed or improved with Maniaesque physics and more organic level design. Classic needs to go entirely. And the OC merely needs more balanced weapons and more varied equipment, and preferably more Adventure styled level design maybe.
Somecallmejohnny reviewed Bubsy. It sucks (but better than the originals) is the synopsis. Not worth the $30 Speaking of Johnny, it'd be great to see him collab on an "Everything Wrong With" Sonic game xD
Even though I like Sonic Forces, to the point where I'm still replaying some of my favorite levels, it felt like a tech demo. Apparently the devs were working on the engine for 3 years and game for 1 so that would make sense. I have a feeling the next game might just be the step up from this everyone was expecting. If not at least they've finally reached the level of quality, Sonic SHOULD be at
I hope so, because I'm starting to dislike people saying that Sonic is been taken in the right direction when that's the last thing he's being for the last few years barring Mania.
I personally love Forces. Best Sonic game I ever played honestly. Had no problem with the controls, loved the level designs, and the Team Mechanic was a neat addition. Enjoyed the story a lot, and music is pretty good to listen to as well. I say Sonic Team have done a pretty good job making this game. Hope to see more like this in the future. Nice artwork, btw.
For me I dont count the level design as 'linear', but narrow. The design are like a tunnel for me, and the alternate are which tunnel pathway do you want to go. If it makes sense
For the piece you did, my favorite part of it was Infinite, since he looks spot on from shape to color scheme to mood etc. My least favorite was Classic Sonic, I mean sure the intensity and shape are good, but when you did the compositing, it altered the color scheme a little bit too much, making him look more grey than blue. I first realized that when I saw the thumbnail for Forces. (And I think the issue for your character was that Modern Sonic obscured him a bit too much, because you can't see him that well with how broad Sonic's quills are.)
Forces......Forces..... Forces.....Siiiiiiigh😑. Honestly, this game made me lose faith in SEGA. Sooo much potential WASTED on a game i was excited for. Next time they make a Sonic game(that wasn't made by the Mania Team), I am keeping my expectations low, no matter how interesting it looks
We found out the reason this game was mediocre was because 2 years were spent working on hedgehog engine 2, 1 year of planning, and 1 one year of actually making the game this is another example of SEGA giving a deadline to sonic team
Apparently the _concept_ of the game itself took _three years_ to develop. The concept. _The concept._ The storyline, the gimmicks, the dialogue- the engine, too, apparently- everything like that. The actual production of what would become the finished product? _A year._ That's how much time they put into all of it. And the finished product is the ONLY Sonic game that I've actually expressed genuine disappointment over.
Hearing something about this game using a new "hedgehog engine", it makes me heavily suspect that much of that time developing the game was spent creating that engine.
This however would not explain everything. After looking at how the game's normal difficulty is meant for people who never played a Sonic game, I can't help but suspect there being something disturbing going on here.
The final nail in the coffin for forces was when it was announced that no review codes would be sent out till after launch. However the nail went in awkwardly because there was a review from polygon two days before launch.
Sonic Forces has loads of untapped potential. I really wished it got into that potential, but unfortunately it's forcing me to be unforgiving to the game.
Charriii5 your videos make me smile and you opened my eyes to more comedy you really are funny yet serious when you want to be (like what the next sonic game should be like) you are a great youtuber and if your goal was to make people smile you succeeded
We had Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations prove that the Boost Sonic can be good. So what about we get Adventure 4 so we can finally have a good Adventure Sonic style game.
Apparently it was the ENGINE that forces uses that took like 3 years to develop. The actual game itself was only given around 6 months development time.
I heard this game was made in 1 year the engine in 3 also yes the game would have been better if they took their time Sega needs to stop the rush jobs also izuna needs to go as a director he's out of ideas on relying way to much on nostalgia
Adrian Leonce funny part this was after their big ass apology if they was stop making crap games this game isn't the crap by any means but it's still not good
I think he means Iizuka, and no Iizuka is the head of Sonic Team and most likely had no involvement in the game's creative department. This game's main concept was most likely done by the game's producer Nakamura Shun. Also, Sonic 06 is anything to go by, Nakamura Shun might have had way more ideas for the story and game but most were most likely cut out due to time constraints. Also, the story was concepted in Japan but written in America, so yes, is was Pontaff's fault.
They use the Hedgehog Engine graphics, collision, etc. and the Havoc Engine for Physics (great combo) and I like how you were drawing the thumbnail in the background haha and nice points.
I found out that the development for the hedgehog engine 2 started 4 years ago. They were planning out the game for 3 years, and it was in full production last year.
Good vid, I thought the custom character was like boom Sonic with the grappling hook and the abilities. The OC I made was literally the redeeming quality of the game, like I enjoyed playing as the OC over sonic. Also I dislike classic Sonic and the fact there is a classic Sonic fanbase. But the OC really shows us that if Sega gave us multiple characters (such as silver, tails, or amy) they would need individual stages for each other and I'm betting Sega doesn't want to make sa3 and look like a try hard. Gosh they also need to explain silver. 06 was shite but that doesn't mean we can't know who and why silver is still in the story/main world. #maketailsgreatagain
Interesting thoughts there Charii, for me, Sonic Forces is good but the level design needs more in it and not be linear all the time, OC customization was fun! And the music while not my favorite, is pretty nice but not that amazing with the exception of Fist Bump and Infinite’s Theme. I just hope the next Sonic game after this can go back to the Adventure Formula one more time instead of the Boost Formula.
I have Red so I can listen to videos on my phone with UA-cam not in front, I leave halfway through and keep listening, and I come back and bam! Artwork's done, I want to rewind and see how it jumped so much, holy crap
Great idea, beautiful next gen graphics, custom avatar, great soundtrack conection with mania, sadly bad writing, bad level design, bad use of classic sonic, most of levels being only boost ones, bad physics and too short game. That is my opinion on forces, a game that got me hyped. A game that learn from the worst things of colors and generations.
This game is one of the most underwhelming games in the series. It can be finished in a few hours, the story is missed potential, Classic Sonic, Tails, and it was released shortly after Sonic Mania, a great game. They could've done more and remove Classic Sonic. It's decent, but it felt like they weren't trying.
Also, take into acount that Infinite's Squad was taken out by Shadow, killed or not we don't know. If his Squad was killed, then it makes sense why he would be damaged like he is, and why he seems like a bitch. It's purely the fact that we aren't given enough information about Infinite's relation to Defense Squad Jackal, we don't know when Rouge got the intel that Sonic was alive , and how Tails got Omega. We just simply don't have enough information about anything about the story. Just had to get that out there, also Infinite didn't retreat or runaway at his final boss, Eggman forced him away so he could use the ruby for his Death Egg Robot.
I think the story was fine. The problems with the story deal with: what is the point of Chaos and what happened to Infinite? The main problem with the game was level design. The level design will always suffer due to boost. Why make a good level if you are going to rush through it, something that was evident in Unleashed. Boost should be used very sparingly and the base of the game needs to be based off a mixture of Adventure and Heroes with less teams and a branching story similar to Shadow's with multiple endings.
I've seen all of the game's stages and cutscenes, and I haven't played it. I don't know if i'll get it. Speaking of things I don't know, I ain't sure about the rest of you, but a part of me would've preferred if Infinite was actually a bioweapon; a product of Eggman's hatred for that hedgehog born from the Phantom Ruby and the Eggman Empire's tech. That way, we wouldn't have needed any of that backstory with Shadow. In the grand scheme of the storyline, Infinite has better things to do than blown off steam on Mr. Ultimate Life Form. However, if they had to go for the Jackal mercenary backstory, they could've used the Ultimate Mercenary's transformation into Infinite as a take on the Five Stages of Grief. As he pledges allegiance to the Eggman Empire and the Jackal Squadron falls apart, he falls into denial, then he gets angry, then he tries to bargain, then he becomes depressed, and finally, he turns into the Phantom Ruby powered superbeing, which we see all throughout the main story, at acceptance. Show his transition in great detail so that it looks less shallow on the surface. Oh, what could of been.
My main three OCs started as cursed Homestuck characters which is just as meme-y as having a Sonic OC nowadays XD but my first "official" OC was actually for Kingdom Hearts as a persona and she has changed so much since then. All of my characters have. I don't make many fandom OCs anymore so I guess that shows how much "adult" I've become or something XD and so many years and OCs later these four alongside a few others have made the cut as my special babies where so many designs have failed. I don't remember where I was going with this. TLDR I should play more Sonic games. Be retro for once.
I wish there was a Sonic MMO but Forces is probably the closest we have gotten to it. Was disappointed but I still had some fun at some part of the game at least.
The Hedgehog Engine 2 was made in 1.5 years. The game was concepted for 1.5 years. 1 year was spent developing the game. For one year, it's impressive. I like to see this as them showing off the Engine. Sure, Sonics 25th isn't the best time to do it, but considering stories like this are the new norm for Sonic, we aren't missing too much.
You do have to take into account that they built an entirely new engine, Hedgehog Engine 2.0, so I don't think they were able to recreate the Classic physics, or normal Sonic physics for that matter, because this is the first time they have ever used this engine, since this game. So their are obviously kinks with this engine, but I do realise it doesn't excuse some continuity within the game itself. Other than that it's one of my favorite Sonic games, purely because of the fun factor you have, even in the saltiest of times.
Reminds me of another series. Where games don't take things seriously and went away from what make it work. But aside from that I agree, however I don't like Forces because it continues what the games recently have been doing.
Fuck... This game was very disappointing and heartbreaking for me. I remember being SO hyped for it. For Infinite, for that OC to an extent, for the return of those villains, for a serious and good story, and most of all good gameplay. They kinda didn't deliver on some of those. Infinite is kind of a little bitch. What's worse is that he just disappears out of the story at the end. The fuck? We don't see him get comeuppance, he doesn't get a cool intimidating new form for a final fuck you to the player, he just VANISHES. Bye Infinite, I guess? Same thing with the returning villans. They're all just shitty ass clones. We don't even fight them all. Just Zavok and Metal Sanic. Fuck Zavok. I like his design, but fuck him. We wanted Chaos. But no, after a shitty ass spin attack from Classic Sanic(Who I wasn't really a big fan of him being here ANYWAY) was enough to kill the clone? A boss fight with Perfect Chaos or even Chaos 0 would have looked AWESOME in 3D! But he was pretty much there for no reason. And why would Infinite make a clone of the guy who called him a little bitch? Mind control or some shit would have been better or made sence. Let the because plot phantom ruby do that instead of making dumb clones. How does Infinite know about past villans like Chaos and Zavok anyway? And if he could make clones out of whatever the heck he wants with the same power of the original, why didn't he just summon Metal Madness, Perfect Chaos or Bowser Zavok off the bat? Him fighting us with those monsters would have made a DOPE ASS final boss! He could betray Eggman to gain a bunch of his power to make those 3 so he could ACTUALLY destroy us and blow us away. Isn't that what he wants? Power? That's probably not touched on upon, because fuck us. This rant was dumb, but I wanted to get the main shit off of my chest. This game has worsened my feelings towards incoming Sonic games as a whole. I don't hate it. A bunch of shit in it just makes me angry. But that's what I get for being hyped. I should just hope for mediocrity from now on. I still love my Sanic, but that love is kinda slipping...
Javier Roman ?? What did I say? I must have forgotten to say that I don't think the game is bad. I don't hate it. It's just mind numbingly mediocre to me. They could have done much more with this. Was that what I didn't say? Did you get so triggered you had to insult me for no reason...?
According to a comment on SomecallmeJohnny's Video of Johnny vs Sonic Forces, Sonic Forces was... well, read it for yourself "Fun fact: This game had less people working on it than previous boost style games. The director was Sonic Lost World's director (as well as Colors' director) and the people working on the level design were all rookies. The director for Sonic Generations is different from Colors and he had no part of this game as well as the level designers from Sonic Generations. I forgot to mention that the total number of level designers that worked this game were 3. I also forgot that the "rookies" actually never worked on a Sonic game before until this one. I also forgot that the producer of this game was the director of Sonic 06. Mostrar menos RESPONDER " On a slighlty different note, the entire script to the Sonic the Hedgehog Movie (the new one that's going to come out in 2019) got leaked, and, in that post, it states that Forces was supposed to tie in to the MOVIE; which makes sense as supposedly some of the locals in the movie are Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Metropolis, also, some of the OTHER locals in the movie that aren't in Forces are (Lost) Labirynth, Oil Ocean, and... Station Square, according to the post, the movie is going to be some sort of Prequel to everything, as it says that when Sonic goes to the city he discovers his love for Chilli Dogs
What I'm really disappointed with is the use of the Phantom Ruby. In Sonic Mania, it was a HUGE threat, warping reality, empowering the Hard Boiled Heavies, teleport, and being able to HARM and DISABLE Super Sonic, as well as transport Sonic to an alternate dimension. But in Forces? It gets chalked up to "illusion" which falls flat when you analyze it. If it's an illusion, how does it kill us? If it's an illusion, why is there ACTUAL DAMAGE still there after the destruction? And the "needs a power source" was BS; it wasn't relevant, and in Mania the Phantom Ruby worked fine DESPITE being buried in the ground. It's implied connection to the Chaos Emeralds was disregarded due to there being no Chaos Emeralds, and it's capabilities aren't that well shown (clones of villains are pushovers, barely any real mind-screwing things aside from Operation Big Wave, etc.). I wish the Phantom Ruby could get a second chance in the Sonic franchise. Maybe retcon the Ruby to be more threatening? Either way, chalk another one up to SEGA for wasted potential.
I would be fine this this game being decent at best, which it is, but the problem is they hyped it to the point where it was almost false advertising.
"Brand new experience" = LIE
"Let's put Chaos and Shadow in the E3 trailer" = Can't fight them.
"This game will not be short" = LIE
"Shadow is fighting for his own reasons" = LIE
"4 years of development" = Doesn't seem like it
"From the people that brought you blah blah" = Not the same level designers so basically LIE
There are more lies, but you get the point.
This game should be great/amazing and it's disappointing that it's not.
OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS!! ^^^^^
techniaclly 1 Year since the other 3 years were spend on everything else
TokyoDrift456 It was just to create the 2nd Hedgehog Engine. Why did they do that? The 1st engine was fine.
Eggman's facility.
I wish this game's marketing wasn't terrible.
How I would fix Sonic Forces:
Delta Gem classic can be argued
Well the deadly six aren’t really “loved” and even if they are it doesn’t really make sense to bring them back I mean while they were the main villains they were also sidekicks to zavok. Also chaos didn’t have a boss battle so...
1. The deadly six aren't really loved in the fanbase actually they are the most forgettable bosses in the franchise.
2. Super Sonic is useless because the phantom ruby is stronger the chaos emerald(s) so he wouldn't be need if he is useless but I would like to have Super Sonic in the story
If sonic team stuck with Sonic and Custom character there would be more levels since they would just have to make levels for two characters and they could add some new gimmicks with each level being fun and memorable
6. Technically the boost is an addition to the adventure game play think about it when you're not boosting you are basically playing as the adventure style Sonic since Sonic is still building momentum and he has platorming sections that can fun (Generations and half of Colors) and the ....... well boring (Forces and the other half of Colors) but the only thing is modern sonic doesn't really have upgrades and he can't spindash or light dash "attack"
My opinion of Sonic Forces 6.2/10 it was going the right direction for the series but it was executed so poorly it was like the developers and writers were lazy and were uninspired. I think Sega needs to start hiring a new cast of people who can has worked on a 3d sonic game and know how write a story with a mix of edge a light hearted ness like the games Sonic Before the Sequel and After the Sequel they aren't 3D but it knows how to execute a Sonic really good and it has a beautiful sountrack. ;)
How about just make another game
You forgot: remove 70% of speed boosters and add drift back.
Why?
Some Random Guy still doesn’t change the fact the story is shit I mean the plotholes are still there, tails character is still ruined etc.
Zombie Clown sonic games with no plotholes are a sin.
He should do a eww video with the Japanese version
Depends on what the plotholes even are. I hope they don't have anything to do with the sun or the illusions.
The Sonic Forces thumbnail looks amazing! Loved the EWW video!
Forces feels like SEGA and Sonic Team just don't care for Sonic as much as Whitehead and the rest of us fans.
Michael Talley Having a Heroes formula in an Adventure settings would be cool. Less teams would be good because we can flesh out the abilities more. The story in Forces is awesome because it reminds me of Sonic SatAm and the Archie stories.
"awesome"?! The story in forces had a good premise but as always sonic team managed to fuck it up
Baldy McNosehair I do have to admit that Infinite's backstory was lame.
Jeremy Knight Classic Sonic had no reason to be in Sonic Forces. I can’t think of any solid, good reason as to why he’d be there.
As much as it would've been awesome for her to be in there, what purpose would Blaze would had? She wouldn't have connected to anything and there has to be a reason for her to be there, otherwise she would've been just like Silver.
Codebox42 kinda like classic sonic don’t you think
You do?
No that's not me. I was excited about the character creation
I️ just love how he writes I’m not weak and points at infinite
Good video.
All I want is a Sonic game that challenges the fans/players who grew up with the hedgehog, also a decent serious storyline.
Nice drawing skills. Like if you agree.
Blame the voice directors.
Isuzu Sento wow you must have really low standards if a game like this is enough to satisfy you
Zombie Clown no she just have an opinión
Not worth the $30
Speaking of Johnny, it'd be great to see him collab on an "Everything Wrong With" Sonic game xD
Earrape on Slicers incoming! ! !
King Kryptonite well i do know charri 5 is a fan of him :)
King Kryptonite I'm not sure. Everything wrong with videos don't seem to be his thing.
Sonic Team needs to get their shit together.
So, what I think is that Forces is a sort of test for the hedgehog engine 2
superJJ Diamond Cobi thinks so too. And I hope this is the case.
DarkSonic180 Oh go away. No body likes you.
This game told me that im to old to be a fan of sonic which is the equivalent to a "bleep" you and finger.
Happy 100k Charriii
I'm loving the art work man
I want a Sonic game like Adventure and a story like Unleashed/SA1&2.
Mani Davis agreed I think sonic adventure 2 and sonic unleashed have the best story
Yes, I’ve been waiting for this
Forces......Forces.....
Adrian Leonce k
We found out the reason this game was mediocre was because 2 years were spent working on hedgehog engine 2, 1 year of planning, and 1 one year of actually making the game this is another example of SEGA giving a deadline to sonic team
Sonic Forces me to give up making Sonic content. XD
I can’t believe this game was made in 4 years. Its so bland and uninteresting.
SynicalAquamarine 1*
Noice art!
18:30 i keep hearing the same thing every 3D sonic game.
Yeah they were announced before the switch was released. At the end it even says Xbox one, PlayStation 4, and NX
in my opinion, SEGA should have done the chaos control and chaos blast thing with shadow, like in Shadow the Hedgehog.
This game shows everything wrong with Sonic Team and Sega of Japan doesn’t understand what America (most Sonic fans are Americans) wants at all.
...Why do they keep making Sonic games again if the games and characters clearly are more popular in the U.S. than in their own country?
Why couldn't they put whatever was in the comic in the game? Things somewhat would have made sense.
Ey, nice art lad!
I love your art :>
I heard this game was made in 1 year the engine in 3 also yes the game would have been better if they took their time Sega needs to stop the rush jobs also izuna needs to go as a director he's out of ideas on relying way to much on nostalgia
You would think SEGA would learn there lesson by now after rushing many of their games. This game proves that SEGA is pretty dumb
Adrian Leonce funny part this was after their big ass apology if they was stop making crap games this game isn't the crap by any means but it's still not good
Question, who is Izuna? The director of Forces wasn't someone named Izuna and I tried looking up who you're talking about but I didn't get anything.
Also, the story was concepted in Japan but written in America, so yes, is was Pontaff's fault.
yume989 proof?
They use the Hedgehog Engine graphics, collision, etc. and the Havoc Engine for Physics (great combo) and I like how you were drawing the thumbnail in the background haha and nice points.
I found out that the development for the hedgehog engine 2 started 4 years ago. They were planning out the game for 3 years, and it was in full production last year.
7:25 First time we played as Shadow since Sonic 06. Mario and Sonic for spinoffs though.
This video is freaking amazing. Thank you
11:13 I AM NOT WEAK!
The double image effect at the beginning of the video really tripped me out
Interesting thoughts there Charii, for me, Sonic Forces is good but the level design needs more in it and not be linear all the time, OC customization was fun! And the music while not my favorite, is pretty nice but not that amazing with the exception of Fist Bump and Infinite’s Theme. I just hope the next Sonic game after this can go back to the Adventure Formula one more time instead of the Boost Formula.
Actually, they spent 4 years making the hedgehog engine 2 and 1 year making Sonic Forces.
Sonic forces me into submission
I have Red so I can listen to videos on my phone with UA-cam not in front, I leave halfway through and keep listening, and I come back and bam! Artwork's done, I want to rewind and see how it jumped so much, holy crap
Mickspad ua-cam.com/video/RFZrzg62Zj0/v-deo.html
Great idea, beautiful next gen graphics, custom avatar, great soundtrack conection with mania, sadly bad writing, bad level design, bad use of classic sonic, most of levels being only boost ones, bad physics and too short game. That is my opinion on forces, a game that got me hyped. A game that learn from the worst things of colors and generations.
Anyone else mesmerised by Charriii5’s speed drawing?
Sonic forces you to take a shot every time Charriii5 says "Classic Sonic" & "Generations".
I just found you and I agree with you in this
I remembered when i first got the game...in one night i speedran through the game and almost completed it.
Infinite still a bad story
I think the story was fine. The problems with the story deal with: what is the point of Chaos and what happened to Infinite? The main problem with the game was level design. The level design will always suffer due to boost. Why make a good level if you are going to rush through it, something that was evident in Unleashed. Boost should be used very sparingly and the base of the game needs to be based off a mixture of Adventure and Heroes with less teams and a branching story similar to Shadow's with multiple endings.
Infinite The comic series which was a prequel to Forces explained how Tails got Omega
Ok, maybe not the latter, but the rest I can agree with.
How did he got him?
The trailer came out at the 25th celebration...
>shadow
>more forgiving
Uhhhh... Bullet hell with the Omniscient Homing Attack Reticle
Wow I would have missed except for this, honesty
3 Years gone to Engine and 1 years gone to the game...Charrii You are going drunk lul
tbh i had mixed expectations about forces so there was nothing for me to be disappointed about
I wish there was a Sonic MMO but Forces is probably the closest we have gotten to it. Was disappointed but I still had some fun at some part of the game at least.
Yo this video was released on my birthday 🎂
You know what would be dope? Being able to play as Infinite and also maybe more backstory as to why Shadow's snark made him so damn pissy.
Like, if he responds like that there has gotta be somethin good you can make of it
I like your drawing
The Hedgehog Engine 2 was made in 1.5 years. The game was concepted for 1.5 years. 1 year was spent developing the game. For one year, it's impressive. I like to see this as them showing off the Engine. Sure, Sonics 25th isn't the best time to do it, but considering stories like this are the new norm for Sonic, we aren't missing too much.
...But it's his 25th year anniversary. That's never the best time to do that stuff.
I expected more then what we got for 4 years but nice video
Cool video
You do have to take into account that they built an entirely new engine, Hedgehog Engine 2.0, so I don't think they were able to recreate the Classic physics, or normal Sonic physics for that matter, because this is the first time they have ever used this engine, since this game. So their are obviously kinks with this engine, but I do realise it doesn't excuse some continuity within the game itself. Other than that it's one of my favorite Sonic games, purely because of the fun factor you have, even in the saltiest of times.
Hey, which program did you use for the thumbnail? looks treat!
Someone completed Sonic Forces from start to finish while you drew that lol
That's a nice art
I'm just dropping a comment for the support.
im not a fan of adventure games . but i can still play it
I hated the fact that there wasn't the original green hill zone music was not there
This is just me nitpicking, but Infinite's blacked out eye is larger and connects to his ear.
Djdragondrawer yo mama is disappointed in you

What did I say? I must have forgotten to say that I don't think the game is bad. I don't hate it. It's just mind numbingly mediocre to me. They could have done much more with this.
Was that what I didn't say? Did you get so triggered you had to insult me for no reason...?
Djdragondrawer
You should have been in charge of the game; it seems like the fans think of better concepts than SEGA ever could...
Djdragondrawer sorry about that I just had a bad day
Battler not judging Ushiromiya sorry about that I just had a bad day
I wish they did more with chaos
You should do a retrospective for lost world and generations.
Nice how you drew the thumbnail
According to a comment on SomecallmeJohnny's Video of Johnny vs Sonic Forces, Sonic Forces was... well, read it for yourself
"Fun fact: This game had less people working on it than previous boost style games.

" On a slighlty different note, the entire script to the Sonic the Hedgehog Movie (the new one that's going to come out in 2019) got leaked, and, in that post, it states that Forces was supposed to tie in to the MOVIE; which makes sense as supposedly some of the locals in the movie are Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Metropolis, also, some of the OTHER locals in the movie that aren't in Forces are (Lost) Labirynth, Oil Ocean, and...
3 level designers in forces btw
ONE MORE LAST FIST BUuuuuuuu.......
People saying a group of fans can make a better game (Mania): yeah, because making a 3D game is obviously easier than making a 2d sprite game
