You can get the Geneva Bible in a 1599 Now with a modern-day text. I just bought one in bonded leather which wasn’t cheap, but they Tolle Lege do them in hardback, a Luther’s version and a Patriot’s version. All with the original Reformers notes. Thanks for your convoluted history lesson that I wasn't looking for. You didn't give me any content issues between the two Bibles that would disuade me from choosing either one! I'm very interested in the Geneva Bible for it's CONTENT differences and justification for such. Maybe next time do a REAL comparison?
My middle name is Geneva, named after my grandmother. Before learning of this bible's name, I always felt that the name was an old name. Well several years ago, I was researching and came across this bible and I was like wow the name is old. I asked some family members about this bible’s name and they were as shock as I was because of never having knowledge of such bible. I have a copy of the Geneva Bible, but the English is so old it looks and sounds Germanic and is very painstakingly time consuming to break down what it is actually saying. I find it interesting historically as far as how the English language has changed so much over the centuries, and when i want to study that aspect of it then it's fine. For general Bible reading, however, is there a printing of this version that has more modern words to make the reading go much smoother?
I like the 1599 version by Tolle Lege Press. It’s in modern English. Keeps original footnotes and is more organized than the 1560. My uncle got the patriot edition it’s very nice.

i was led to search out the geneva a few years back, and i started posting verses from it. the (adulterous) lord of the church i was attending was also connected to my facebook page. soon thereafter, he began posting verses as well, which he rarely did. he like many others would attribute such verses to the kjv, but in this case, he made sure the letters 'AV' in caps was clearly visible and understood... as if he were verbally spanking that one who dared quote from an unauthorized bible which he also did not endorse. the geneva truly is treated like an abomination by the church world.

Have you looked at the Wycliffe equivalent of Psalm 4:4? “Be ye wroth, and do not ye do sin; and for those things which ye see in your hearts and in your beds, be ye compunct.” Compunct means something along the lines of remorseful.

The Tolle Lege Press made a 1599 Geneva translation using modern lettering and spelling so that it is easy to read -- unless you have a problem with small print. The print is rather small.

Apocrypha and apocalypse are two different things - the Apocrypha is in the 1560 Geneva Bible, appearantly not in the 1599 - and being understood to be there to expose the false doctrines of Rome - the apocalypse is the book of Revelation and the benefit of the Geneva Bible is that it has marginal notes that help us understand who the antichrist is, so yes in both of the two cases the geneva Bible wins
The king James didn’t start getting printed until 1611 & they used a lot of Geneva to help write it. King James banned printing & importing of the Geneva Bible to England because his version wasn’t selling good at first.

A Hebrew word that is associated with YHWH and commonly translate "Lord" is Adonai. The Greeks and then the Romans forbade the use of the Name, so the rabbis banned its use, including the writing of its vowel marks. That's why y'all think His name is Yahweh. Though I certainly agree we should understand that Lord is His title, not the Name that is our strong tower.
I have the G-1599 version as well - having systematically replaced many other versions I purchased/received over the years as soon as I found out they were flawed (catholic, NIV, NLT, NKJV, KJV). I'm worried though,... wondering if the 1599 version is as accurate as the 1560? Anyone know?
There is a reason the Geneva bible is not widely used anymore, it is because it was just an ok translation, but not entirely accurate to more trusted Greek and Hebrew texts. It is now mainly a historical curiosity and not commonly used. Ask any real theologion that has studied Hebrew and Greek bible texts. It was translated by a smaller group of scholars that had fled England to Geneva, Switzerland and is mainly the work of William Tyndale. They did not have all available Hebrew and Greek texts available to them so they used what translations they could get. The Geneva used mainly Tyndale's work. He used Latin texts when he didn't have certain parts, some Hebrew, and also Greek and German texts, all translated into English. Sometimes the translation is off from more trusted Greek and Hebrew sources. It is still close in many ways to the KJV. They were just trying to get a decent copy out for people to read. No one was reading the Geneva translation by the time America was founded. In fact no one was reading the original printing of the 1611 King James Version either. The English language, spelling and punctuation, had changed to the point a new typeset and version had long since been printed by 1776. Spelling and punctuation changes aside, the King James Version was done by a much more thorough system of translation by a vast committee of scholars and as a result most sections flow better and words that seem out of place and confusing, and were in fact mistaken, in the Geneva make more sense when reading them in the KJV. They are both the word of God, but one is more clear and accurate and the proof is in the length of time the KJV has been in use. In the end it is up to the reader, but I personally would never stray from what has been trusted for hundreds of years.
the KJV being created to get rid of the marginal notes, there is something to it - it was half the defeat of Protestantism, the other half being the corruption of the text itself - today Protestantism is largely resubmitted back under the Papacy - as ever this was done in disguise; create something that appears superior, 47 translators for the 1611 AKJV etc - so the people would start using the superior translation and then offer them again study bibles now being less harsh on Rome

How do you explain Mt 1:11 with the addition of Jakim? I am very curious about this and can not find an explanation to this . Also, the footnote for MT 1:25 implies that Mary remained a Virgin after the birth of Christ. These issues are what is keeping me from buying one and , teaching my God daughter with this bible.
My first thought was that they inserted one of the four names that were omitted by Matthew, but I looked them up to refresh my memory and they are Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah and Jehoiakim. It is well known that Matthew shortened his list to make three sets of 14 names. Apparently which ever Greek text was used by the translators for that verse had the name Jakim in it. Wikipedia says that some version of the Greek have the name but it doesn't say which ones ones. Here's is what I found on which texts were used for the Geneva. Keep in mind that the KJV used the Texus Receptus which came from the texts that were used in the Geneva. Jakim is the name of one individual mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, as well as one individual mentioned in some manuscripts of the New Testament's Gospel of Matthew. In a genealogy of the Tribe of Benjamin, in 1 Chronicles 24:12, a Jakim appears, as the son of Shimei (who is referred to as Shema in verse 13). In some Greek manuscripts of Matthew, a Jakim appears between Josiah and Jechoniah in a genealogy of Jesus. The Greek texts were probably Estienne’s Greek New Testament of 1551 and Beza’s Greek New Testament of 1556. Hence, what is now called the Textus Receptus was the Greek New Testament used for the Geneva Bible. Scholars vary on exactly what all of the sources were for the 1560 Geneva Bible. Westcott indicated the sources were the original text, the Great Bible, the Latin version of the Old Testament by Leo Juda, the Greek Latin Testament of Beza 1556 and 1559, and the French Bible version of Pierre Robert Olivetan revised in Geneva in 1558. Another scholar indicates the 1553 rather than the 1558 French Bible of Olivetan was used as well as Estienne’s own Bible published in Geneva in 1557 and the Hebrew-Latin Bible of Sebastian Muster of 1534-1535.
doug1863 a. The marginal notes of kjv say in Matthew 1 : 11 -"Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren : some read, Josias begat Jakim, and Jakim begat Jechonias." On Matthew 1 : 25 Geneva footnote - the Geneva doesn't say that Mary remained a virgin the rest of her life. In and of itself, the footnote explains what the word "till" means. The context of the verse is that she was a virgin before she gave birth to Jesus and Joseph did not know her till after Jesus was born. Today, we would understand this verse better if it said " And he did not know her until after she had brought forth her firstborn son : and he called His name Jesus." I'm not for Geneva, but these two things aren't something to discourage reading of the Geneva translation over. Edit : I think someone's been listening to Anderson, on account of those are two things he pointed out when asked about the Geneva bible.

To prove your point here you need to provide evidence that the KJV was less accurately translated from the Codex Sinaiticus than the Geneva. The Tyndale Bible is likely more accurate than the Geneva although the Geneva is far better than the blasphemous NIV or the other modern "per versions"
I have nothing against the Geneva Bible but do prefer it to the KJV. My concern is I did not hear You confess the Son but only the Father. But we have salvation in one name who is the Word of God made flesh. Yeshua heMassiach or Jesus the Christ...So long as we know the Son is one with the Father and by Him all things are created... I have the 1560 edition Geneva Bible...I went back and forth between it and the 1599 version. I believe it's the 1599... However the 1560 Geneva has the Gothic style print and Apocryphal books...

The KJV wss translated by 200 Roman Catholics and 200 Protestants, major concessions were made to the roman catholics under tyrannical kangaroo court government enforcement that was the rule of james and bloody mary, the english crown in bed with the pope to control the mass populations, roman and english tyranny two hands of the same idolatrous harlot. The Textus Receptus, the original Greek and Hebrew, is THE ONLY inspired word of God. Any pastor worth his salt reads from an Interlinear Greek/Hebrew/English Bible, numbered to the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. I use the 1599 Geneva Bible for my own personal reading and quoting of scripture, aside from when I want to point out the mistakes and corruption in the king james, as the Geneva translations are unfrowarded by anglo saxon roman catholic influence. The KJV is translated from the Greek however it has a lot of mistakes and some intentional corruption (there is no easter in the Textus Receptus or Geneva Bibles, for example) roman catholicism is a hybrid pagan abomination to God created by constantine. All other more modern translations are just plain corrupt text.

Also, the LSB (Legacy Standard Bible) is a very good modern translation taken from the NASB 1995. There is a free app called Literal Word and it has four translations including the LSB. ❤

Just got my 1560 edition, my first bible. Spent 10 years as an athiest and realized how wrong I am. Got to say it's a bit intimidating, but if I can go through dark souls lore I can do this.
You can get the Geneva Bible in a 1599 Now with a modern-day text. I just bought one in bonded leather which wasn’t cheap, but they Tolle Lege do them in hardback, a Luther’s version and a Patriot’s version. All with the original Reformers notes. I have a copy of the Geneva Bible, but the English is so old it looks and sounds Germanic and is very painstakingly time consuming to break down what it is actually saying. I find it interesting historically as far as how the English language has changed so much over the centuries, and when i want to study that aspect of it then it's fine. For general Bible reading, however, is there a printing of this version that has more modern words to make the reading go much smoother?
I like the 1599 version by Tolle Lege Press. It’s in modern English. Keeps original footnotes and is more organized than the 1560. My uncle got the patriot edition it’s very nice.

KJV-Onlyism is not Scriptural. Yes, there are some bad translations out there. Funnily enough, the translation in between Geneva and the KJV (the Bishops Bible) was widely criticized as being terribly done. I come from a militantly Ruckmanite family. I recently realized how wrong Ruckmanism is and bought an NASB (which is considered the best word-for-word translation, but no translation is inerrant because all were done at the hands of man). A couple weeks ago, my sister found that Bible when she dropped something off for me. Instead of talking to me about it, she texted everyone in my family. I have had their wrath on me ever since. Christian families should not be divided over which translation is perfect. No translation will ever be perfect. I have the G-1599 version as well - having systematically replaced many other versions I purchased/received over the years as soon as I found out they were flawed (catholic, NIV, NLT, NKJV, KJV). I'm worried though,... wondering if the 1599 version is as accurate as the 1560? Anyone know?
There is a reason the Geneva bible is not widely used anymore, it is because it was just an ok translation, but not entirely accurate to more trusted Greek and Hebrew texts. It is now mainly a historical curiosity and not commonly used. Ask any real theologion that has studied Hebrew and Greek bible texts. It was translated by a smaller group of scholars that had fled England to Geneva, Switzerland and is mainly the work of William Tyndale. They did not have all available Hebrew and Greek texts available to them so they used what translations they could get. The Geneva used mainly Tyndale's work. He used Latin texts when he didn't have certain parts, some Hebrew, and also Greek and German texts, all translated into English. Sometimes the translation is off from more trusted Greek and Hebrew sources. It is still close in many ways to the KJV. They were just trying to get a decent copy out for people to read.
No one was reading the Geneva translation by the time America was founded. In fact no one was reading the original printing of the 1611 King James Version either. The English language, spelling and punctuation, had changed to the point a new typeset and version had long since been printed by 1776. Spelling and punctuation changes aside, the King James Version was done by a much more thorough system of translation by a vast committee of scholars and as a result most sections flow better and words that seem out of place and confusing, and were in fact mistaken, in the Geneva make more sense when reading them in the KJV. They are both the word of God, but one is more clear and accurate and the proof is in the length of time the KJV has been in use. In the end it is up to the reader, but I personally would never stray from what has been trusted for hundreds of years.

It's the bullwark of all faithful and true followers of God and is a superbly supreme conductor to get all its reasoning into the Word of God and draw all the virtue and substance the Word signifies and possesses bedrock meaning out of it.

How do you explain Mt 1:11 with the addition of Jakim? I am very curious about this and can not find an explanation to this .
Also, the footnote for MT 1:25 implies that Mary remained a Virgin after the birth of Christ.
These issues are what is keeping me from buying one and , teaching my God daughter with this bible.
My first thought was that they inserted one of the four names that were omitted by Matthew, but I looked them up to refresh my memory and they are Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah and Jehoiakim. It is well known that Matthew shortened his list to make three sets of 14 names.
Apparently which ever Greek text was used by the translators for that verse had the name Jakim in it. Wikipedia says that some version of the Greek have the name but it doesn't say which ones ones. Here's is what I found on which texts were used for the Geneva. Keep in mind that the KJV used the Texus Receptus which came from the texts that were used in the Geneva.
Jakim is the name of one individual mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, as well as one individual mentioned in some manuscripts of the New Testament's Gospel of Matthew. In a genealogy of the Tribe of Benjamin, in 1 Chronicles 24:12, a Jakim appears, as the son of Shimei (who is referred to as Shema in verse 13). In some Greek manuscripts of Matthew, a Jakim appears between Josiah and Jechoniah in a genealogy of Jesus.
The Greek texts were probably Estienne’s Greek New Testament of 1551 and Beza’s Greek New Testament of 1556. Hence, what is now called the Textus Receptus was the Greek New Testament used for the Geneva Bible.
Scholars vary on exactly what all of the sources were for the 1560 Geneva Bible. Westcott indicated the sources were the original text, the Great Bible, the Latin version of the Old Testament by Leo Juda, the Greek Latin Testament of Beza 1556 and 1559, and the French Bible version of Pierre Robert Olivetan revised in Geneva in 1558. Another scholar indicates the 1553 rather than the 1558 French Bible of Olivetan was used as well as Estienne’s own Bible published in Geneva in 1557 and the Hebrew-Latin Bible of Sebastian Muster of 1534-1535.

On Matthew 1 : 25 Geneva footnote - the Geneva doesn't say that Mary remained a virgin the rest of her life. In and of itself, the footnote explains what the word "till" means. The context of the verse is that she was a virgin before she gave birth to Jesus and Joseph did not know her till after Jesus was born. Today, we would understand this verse better if it said " And he did not know her until after she had brought forth her firstborn son : and he called His name Jesus."
I'm not for Geneva, but these two things aren't something to discourage reading of the Geneva translation over.

To prove your point here you need to provide evidence that the KJV was less accurately translated from the Codex Sinaiticus than the Geneva. The Tyndale Bible is likely more accurate than the Geneva although the Geneva is far better than the blasphemous NIV or the other modern "per versions"

My concern is I did not hear You confess the Son but only the Father. But we have salvation in one name who is the Word of God made flesh. Yeshua heMassiach or Jesus the Christ...So long as we know the Son is one with the Father and by Him all things are created...

I have the 1560 edition Geneva Bible...I went back and forth between it and the 1599 version. I believe it's the 1599... However the 1560 Geneva has the Gothic style print and Apocryphal books...

The KJV wss translated by 200 Roman Catholics and 200 Protestants, major concessions were made to the roman catholics under tyrannical kangaroo court government enforcement that was the rule of james and bloody mary, the english crown in bed with the pope to control the mass populations, roman and english tyranny two hands of the same idolatrous harlot. The Textus Receptus, the original Greek and Hebrew, is THE ONLY inspired word of God. Any pastor worth his salt reads from an Interlinear Greek/Hebrew/English Bible, numbered to the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. I use the 1599 Geneva Bible for my own personal reading and quoting of scripture, aside from when I want to point out the mistakes and corruption in the king james, as the Geneva translations are unfrowarded by anglo saxon roman catholic influence. The KJV is translated from the Greek however it has a lot of mistakes and some intentional corruption (there is no easter in the Textus Receptus or Geneva Bibles, for example) roman catholicism is a hybrid pagan abomination to God created by constantine. All other more modern translations are just plain corrupt text.

Also, the LSB (Legacy Standard Bible) is a very good modern translation taken from the NASB 1995. There is a free app called Literal Word and it has four translations including the LSB. ❤
“God” in English has nothing to do with “gad” in Hebrew. But even if it did - Deus comes from Zeus, and no one ever conflated the two. A distant etymological link is a false equivalent.
