Thanks for the quick tip and the how-to for the FG Knot. I've always used an "Alberto Knot" I found on line, but I found your FG Knot is thinner and simpler to tie precisely, especially on a rocking boat and/or on a boat with low light at night. Keep the great videos coming!
Rizzuto finish works well. I have had the half hitches undo on me. But its a hell of a knot all the same. Love the channel and content. Been spj here in Wilmington since last year and shock most of the people that have never seen it in person, pretty funny because they are usually asking about my gear and where to buy by mid trip. Tight lines brother!!
thanks for showing us the "FG Knot" for splicing leader to main line. I have always used the UniKnot-to-UniKnot splice and have never had any problems with it. I use 7 wraps on the mono/ fluoro side and 8-9 wraps on the braided side. No problemo. I can even tie it in the dark; a handy capability when it's nighttime and you're fishing at the erl rigs offshore during a hot bite.
Yeah man...Welcome... I prefer the FG for rods with smaller guides, but like you said everyone has there go too. This was a trip I will never forget. Thanks for watching Mark.
Such an awesome video! Everyone of these gets better and better! Really dig your editing and you are a natural at the voice over .. keep crushing it ! #teamjig
Will got left at home? Great video as alwalys , I love how you narrate. Keeps me entertained between trips of my own. Now I have to add another trip to LA this summer. Back to work for me.
Man, I really need to get my hands on some of those jigs to try here in Alaska for Halibut and Lingcod. Doing pretty good with Colt Snipers but need to try yours! Great video guys. Keep 'em coming.
Great video! Just getting into SPJ myself. What braid are you using? Lb test? Looking forward for ARS to open in a couple days! Got a trip to the Fla. Middlegrounds booked for the 9th, and can’t wait to try some jigs!
Hey Raleigh, Check out our last video before this one labeled blackfin tuna. Halfway through I dig into the braid I use as well as pound test and more. Thank you for watching and good luck on your trip. .......Johnny🤙
Ok so what exactly was your setup here? I went out today and ever time I hooked into a red snapper I couldn't stop'em. The one time I locked the reel down and stopped him my 30 pound braid failed...
Hey Corey, I'm using a power G3 Temple Reef matched with a Accurate Valiant 500n. My line is 30# test multi colored Daiwa J braid with 12' of 40 or 50# fluorocarbon. I use a FG knot for my braid to fluoro connection and a modified clinch knot to my jig. You should be able to put the brakes on any Red Snapper with that setup. Call the shop and I will walk you through any questions you may have for getting a quality set up that suits you and your fishery....Johnny
So I took the 200g Orange and Gold torpedo out for a stroll this morning and Hooked up on a 22.2lb King Mack, Spanish Mack and Blue runners. My poor torpedo got some battle scars! I would like to know if yall would refurbish the jigs for a fee? If not thats ok I love the jigs and I already made my 3rd order !
Hey Aaron, Sorry no refurbishing. Use promo code BIGFISH15 for your next order its 15% off your entire order. I love that jig too. Top secret insider info...We are doing slight changes to that jig and it will be in several size selections with some really cool customizations. Its gonna be about 4-6 Weeks before its ready. I'm going to fish the heck out of that jig when it comes in. Thank you for your orders.......Johnny
Isn't it a shame that we used to have a high of 7165 oil and gas platforms.. now its at 1509. They are disappearing every day. Thanks Obama. Idle iron policy.

What length leader do you use? I've heard anywhere from 15-25 ft.
10-12' I will sometimes go shorter on the deep drop.
what’s the rod length ?
Michael, In this video I'm using a Temple Reef Gravitate it is 6'8"
