- Born as Alice Christabel Montagu Douglas Scott in Edwardian England, Alice would become the wife of a Prince. Her husband was Henry, the third son of King George V and Queen Mary. Together the couple was known as the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. For almost half of her life Alice was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force which was later renamed into the Women’s royal Air force. She joined her husband in Australia when he was appointed Gorvenor General there. She suffered two miscarriages before giving birth to two sons. However she would outlive her elder son. She also outlived her husband by over thirty years. She became the oldest living member of the British royal family after the death of her sister in law. On August 21st 2003 she broke the record as the oldest person in the British royal family at the age of 101 years and 238 days. At the time of her death on October 29th 2004 Alice had also broken the record as the world's longest lived royal. This is the incredibly long life of a girl born in to a noble family and dying as a Princess.

Princess Alice and Elizabeth, the Queen Mother must have set some kind of record, as I have not yet come across another example of two women who married brothers, and then both lived past the age of 100!
Both belonged to the Scottish aristocracy
Loved hearing about a royal who is not talked about much.
Princess Alice I have heard of she was amazing lady and loved by many and apparently by the late queen elizabeth , the queen mother , who admired her strength, I only
read that recently. Again I always look forward to your video's on royals that we don't hear much about.
May HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester rest in heavenly peace ☮️ ❤
The late Duke of Gloucester's eminent widow and the former vicereine of Australia!
6:18 She was 33 when she got married since the wedding was on Nov 6, 1935 and her birthday was in December 25
A very pretty lady. Alice(& her husband) served the Monarchy extremely well through the years.
A remarkable life. I saw her in Queensland when the Duke was our Governor-General.
Their son William actually reminds me of Prince of Wales a lot
The Prince of Wales was named after their son.
What a remarkable life!! As always great video! Very engaging and educational. I always walk away with some new knowledge. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
She has always been my favorite right up there eith Alex. So Beautiful. Perfect story. Maybe the pics and history of that grandmother of Sara's?
Alice was older than the average newlywed. I wonder why she waited so long to get married. She was in her 40s when she had her two sons.
She had a love of travel & freedom and wasn't angling for marriage.
She was a second cousin of Cynthia Hamilton the paternal grandmother of Princess Diana.
a good biography of this very interesting woman is long long overdue.
What a fabulous real lady and gorgeous lady as well
She was a rather beautiful lady...
As an Australian I never knew the Duke of Gloucester was the Governor General at one point! The more you know :)
Great video. Loved it. 😎👍
Thanks!
Great job with the video. ^_^
Thank you! 😄
God BLESS her Soul!! 💞💞🦋
Very good !
We appreciate you 🫶🏾 the Gloucesters went to a lot
Queen Elizabeth was very fond of Princess Alice and her remaing son, the Duke of Gloucester can still be seen participating in Royal duties upmuntil Queen Eliabeths death. I will never forget the poor man dtruggling tonwalk under the weight of his Bear Skin hat at Prince Phillips funeral. I will not underdtand WHY the poor old Fragile manwas forced toneear that uniform probably weighing more than his thin fragil frame odf a soildrr. Ever the constant tribute to Royal Duties.🙏♥️
That was the Duke of Kent struggling. Richard Duke of Gloucester walked with the other Royals behind the late Queen.
May the rest in peace 🙏
❤
The first photo is not her it's princess alice of battenberg
Mont-a-Gew. Rhymes with few.
I wonder what happened to all the beautiful tiaras she wore? Were some of them her family or most from the royal vault
Charlie ... Her jewels were mostly gifts from Queen Mary her Mother in law. Queen Mary set up her daughters in law with many full sets or parure of fabulous Jewels... I always felt the Gloucester's got the best. and thankfully unlike the "Kent's" The Gloucester's haven't sold off their Jewels...
I'd love to think upon the passing of there Royal Highness's the presented Duke and Duchess. Some if not all the "gifts" from Queen Mary... Would find there way "Back" into the Royal Coffers... Queen Mary should have gifted them on permanent loan. As tends to be the case ...these days!! BUT I suspect the idea that her Children and or Daughter in laws would ever sell "her" former Jewels was unthinkable.
The Gloucester's have some stunning pieces Inc a Tiara gifted by the Late Princess Louise...of a Cartier Tiara, check it out.

Smart l lady
Only thing i didn't like was the narration ,names and places incorrectly spoken
It would be kind to acknowledge that the video maker/narrator speaks English as a second language.
Not just me then. A hit and miss with some grammar too.
Rip DARLING 😘 EmpressQueenDutchessRenitaRStaffordshire AKA BILL GATES and Anthony TROWERY 😇
She shouldn't have had to ask Queen Elizabeth for permission to change her title to Princess Alice, since she had royal blood in her through King Charles II (Stuart blood) and Queen Elizabeth did not have Stuart blood in her.
Montagoo ? Is that the correct pronunciation for Montague ? 😄
Yes
@@mediocremaiden8883 No
@Odo55 Oh, sorry. How is it pronounced? 🤔
@@mediocremaiden8883 Monta-gew, like few
Ohh okay. Well, I think it's just her thick accent. Thick but very beautiful accent.
Gloucester VA? Or the united kingdom.
Now why would you think Gloucester in the US? Why? Seriously?
@@yvonnesmith6152 There are places called Gloucester in the USA, but since this is a Princess it can't be the USA.
oh dear!
