- How to polka dance for beginners with Anthony and Rose Lewis of Country Dance X. In this dance video, we teach you the basic steps and turns of country polka dancing.
One of the coolest things about learning how to dance Polka is that, if you already know how to dance Two Step, all of the basic steps and turns can also be done just as well in Country Polka Dancing.
In country dancing, there are many different styles of country dance and, depending on where you are, country polka dance can be used often. Country music dance has multiple rhythms and country western polka fits much of today's modern country music.
Originally a Czech dance, the polka as danced in country dancing has changed to fit the rhythms and style of country music dancing.
Country polka dancing is a "lilted" dance (which can look bouncy) and includes lots of fast spins and turns.

The way you described the correlation between Polka and Twostep was excellent.
So glad you enjoyed it!
Awww cute hairstyle 😍 (this is a bit out of topic but I actually save many of your videos in my fashion playlist because I love your style 😅😂)
That’s so sweet! ❤️❤️❤️
Love this! I found a store (altar’d state) that I’m obsessed with ... and my wallet is in trouble! Ha. Glad someone appreciates it.🤣 Thanks for sharing 😚😚♥️

We will definitely do more Nightclub here on the channel :-)
Thank you guys! That was really interesting to learn about the polka 😊 I love the tips about the lilt. I like the phrase, "talkie talkie"! Have a great day you two! 😃
Glad you liked it! Anthony loves a good talking moment 🤣 gotta love him for it!
@@roselewis7813 Ahaha! 🤣 We've got to think of a special phrase for you too!
I agree night club basic. Got to totally nail the basics to move on and dance it well.

I have a nephew that lives in Houston Texas. That dance seems alot easier for me to learn I just gotta find a dance partner.😉
Polka is huge in the Houston area. Probably as many polkas danced here as anything else!
@@countrydancex ohhh wow. I need to go visit my nephew in Houston someday.🤗
I would like to see Triple-Step, as well as all of the UCWDC 8 dances.
When you say "Triple-Step", we can only assume that's a regional thing?
@@countrydancex I mean Triple Two or Triple Two-Step.
I like to see more country swings.💃💃
We’ll definitely do that
@@countrydancex Alight thank you so much..☺
A very instructional video. Well done.
Glad you liked it!
This video was very helpful!
Glad to hear it!
XLNT styling in her turns. The hand positions and her head frame. Do a breakdown?
Love your dance shirt Anthony... "No step on snek" ....while you Polka?
Thanks. When I go clothes shopping, I don’t usually think in terms of political statement. Polka/ Two Step/ WCS or whatever we’re teaching will just be done in whatever I happen to be wearing that day. ~ Anthony
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
It may be country but it aint no polka we ever grew up on!
When I was in Katy and Houston I noticed no one in country bars doing double two (or triple two). I believe they do it in Dallas.
Do you guys teach that?
Yeah. “Double Two” is a very Dallas thing. Triple Two Step is similar but the style is a little different. Not many people dance either of them here. We can teach TR2, but there’s not much call for it.
Hello, a very clear video but I was confused throughout. The polka you taught is very different from the one I have seen people dance which I want to learn. The music is a lot faster and they whirl around the ballroom, in ballroom hold, in breakneck speed and none of that underarm turns. Definitely no lilt to it. You seemed to be going sedately in a straight line. So it must be a different sort of Polka. Is yours a country western style?
It sounds like you're looking for the old school polka like you may find at German American clubs etc. Yes, as the title says, this is Country Polka. Same basic idea but a bit slower, more structure, more spins.
@@countrydancex LOL. It was actually the word "Country" which drew me in. I thought it meant country dancing like Scottish Country Dancing, thinking Polka was a kind of folk dance. Still I have learned something new. Regardless, dancing is great and I am really looking forward to be able to go dancing again when the lockdown is lifted. Cheers!
Love your videos. Can you suggest another exit after the bowtie move? I am short and have a hard time getting my elbow up high enough for many women to pass under without hitting their head with my elbow.
Stay closer to your partner. That helps
Funny I would always count 2step as triple step, walk.
can you do that "secret code" for waltz like you are doing for polka (2 step translation)?
That would be cool if we could... but waltz and Two Step aren’t transferable the same way :-/
@@countrydancex waltz is a mystery for me, need more lessons on that!!!
I bet you’d like this one: ua-cam.com/video/NoZMo8fTqSE/v-deo.html
4 count Hustle.
I notice in San Antonio area dance halls such as Cowboys, Thirsty Horse, Blue Bonnet Palace, etc, they all tend to do this Left, Left, Right kind of dance. What exactly is that? I've been watching your two step, WCS, and polka videos, but i haven't seen anything like that.
This video should answer that question: ua-cam.com/video/2NPdOQyqCkc/v-deo.html
@@countrydancex Thank you so much! Your videos are awesome and I tell everyone to subscribe.
More intermediate to advanced nightclub 2-step
For sure!
Das ist alles von Allem, aber keine Polka
This is Country Western Polka
More waltz please
