After reading up on the Bulls dynasty, I've come to one conclusion; they all needed each other. Krause might've been a pain in the ass, but he was a manager that put together a team that won six championships in eight years. You look at how Jordan and Jackson did as executives for other teams; Jordan and the Wizards drafting Kwame Brown (need I say more?) Then Jordan with the Bobcats/Hornets. Finally, you look at how Jackson did for the Knicks as head of basketball operations. In conclusion, just because you're a great player or coach, that doesn't mean you'd be great in the front office.

Bro you don't just look at the outcome and say who's right: Bulls already started winning under coach Doug Colins, the made it to the fvcking Eastern Conference Finals! Even if Rodman was a good fit, he needed Jordan's presence so that he don't become an uncontrollable beast in the locker room (to which Rodman actually did sometimes, just on and off). Pippen was a great talent, but he only averaged 7 points in the first season with Bulls. Charles Oakly proved himself after he was traded for Cartwright to Knicks, and became a huge problem during Chicago and New York playoff games (although MJ always come on top). Horace Grant was proven to be very avarage in Magic, the only reason he did well in Bulls was because he was fed easy baskets (with MJ and Pippen's presence). Toni Kukoc failed so hard in 1999 when Bulls decides to build a team around him. This is not to mention after the Jordan Era, Krause traded the immense talent Ron Artest (Meta World Peace) for absolutely no reason even after he already proved his worth on the team. Krause soon resigned because after Jordan left, Bulls was barely winning 20 games a season!
you clearly needed the players to win games because they are the ones who trained themselves and play on the court. Krause has nothing to do with the blood sweat and tears Jordan put during training and in the locker room, and a lot of the 'Krause was right' moment was because JORDAN MADE IT WORK, not Krause. This 'unbiased' video is just total BS.
@@kyoumeister8996nah you gotta consider jerry's moves on trades, hired coach and assistants, trades and contracts. Pip was screwed but that allowed them to be formidable for years. He didn't give up to what mj wants and wishes on teammates and coaches. He just went his way on how to build a consistent winning team having the goat and who are the best fit of players and coaches for him. MJ no doubt is the main star and reason of the dynasty but hated the fact that jerry was right everytime on trades and who to draft. You can't deny that jerry is a excellent gm so i gotta say both are "high pride" and winners as well so they hate each other🤷

Hell no 🤣 MJ didn't need Krause nor Jackson... At best Krauss is a good scout, THATS IT. He was a horrible GM. Only reason the guys he brought in was any good is because MJ pushed them. He mis managed his players and built zero relationships with them. He isolated everyone. That's why once MJ left, everyone that could leave LEFT. Outside of Kerr, Harper (who has a great player before he went to the Bulls) and of course Pip, none of them became better outside of the Bulls. Actually Kerry regressed but only won more because he went to the Spurs. Harper followed Jackson. Everyone else was a shell of themselves after MJ left.
Krause is what you get when you max out all statistics except Communication skills and charisma. Its insane how much he accomplished while being in beef with literally everybody.
He was a great GM and was big reason why Bulls won 6... Seeing this videos makes it clearer to me than that Jordan was fortunate to win 6 titles... Bcoz had he had a GM that followed what Jordan wanted thing Bulls would have not won so many titles! By the way, the videos on the playlist on my channel might interest some people!

Reinsdorf even said it in The Last Dance. He hired Krause because he wanted to win, not because he wanted to be popular.

Krause's beef was more against Phil, rather than MJ, believe it or not. Krause felt that Phil was getting the praise that was meant for him.
Probably. But after the players, the coach is the next most visible key to the fans and the media.
If what you said is true, If Krause just kept doing his thing and looked past that, he would have found more contentment in achieving what he had achieved. Being that having an eye for good players (his good vision) played an important role in them crossing each others paths. I think the narrator said that Krause supported the underdog because he was seen as an underdog. To hell with all that. When you buy into the fluff that most yap about, you fall into a stupor that does zero for your mental health, much less overall reality.
It wasn't just that. It's also that Phil used the players's deep seated hatred of Krause as a way to unite the team.

Facts. The only thing Krause did to Jordan was trying to stop him from playing the year he broke his foot. Any gm would have tried to stop that. Once phil got there he used that to make Jordan and else hate Krause. Phil was always the true Villain. He did the same thing in LA using Kobe as the problem during their first title runs with Shaq. The only problem was Kobe never complained. I still say Phil had an under the table deal with Lakers during the Bulls run is why Krause was ready to rid of him. Jordan was just to loyal to Phil.

@@fobincIt's still entirely up to the Coaching staff and the players to make it work, regardless of how much talent the GM recruits. It's the players that win the games, not the organization.

Even though I'm a die hard MJ fan, I still can't deny the importance of Jerry Krause as General Manager. I think everybody misunderstood Jerry when he said "organizations win and not the players". I think what he wanted to say is that organizations as a whole win trophy's and players are part of the organization. Its like a chain, if you take one peace it won't hold anymore.

I mean he is right, because it takes particulars.....a well put together recipe of sorts...... to produce excellence. Whether it's a group of people or ingredients for whatever tasty meal. I'm not too sure what went down between them, but the reality of certain things will always be what it is. The manager played a role, Phil Jackson played a role and every player (in due time) played a position that produced what the Bulls produced.
He was basically the Jordan of GMs

still fishy as hell that they just let them all go in '98. That never made one deal of sense. I even remember when they invited up Krause to hold the trophy, the fans booed him without mercy. He must've hated out that much having to go through that again when it could have extended the dynasty window by two more years.
I'm a Laker fan and I'll go on record saying Jerry West was THE most important piece of the Showtime/Shaq and Kobe era. Krause was that guy for the Bulls. Having a GM that can find talented players to surround your superstars (with some of the worst positions in the draft) and keep a dynasty running is rare and needs to be appreciated more than it is. Think of it this way, If David Griffen was MJ's GM in Chicago, do you think they get past the Pistons with 'Boobie' Gibson being the number 2 scorer on the team? And if Krause was building a team around Lebron, which way would the G.O.A.T. discussion be leaning right now? As good as MJ was, Krause deserves WAY more credit than he get's for building and sustaining that dynasty.
West was also a very good motivational speaker. He helped keep the locker room under control. This, I would say, is where West was better than Krause.

Krause did make great draft choices, but after the team started winning he hated it because he could no longer draft new talent since they had no draft picks, which is why he wanted to dismantle the team and rebuild, which he said many times back in the 90's.

The Pippen contract was also partly Pippen's fault. He was warned not to sign early, but chose to knowing that a potential spike in player salaries is coming up.
Of course it was. He was a grown man. He wanted guaranteed money. It's ridiculous. If he got injured or just played bad he'd still get every cent. Yet if he overachieves he deserves more? Basically he wins no matter what?
no one put a knife to Pip's throat. That was all on him. He had an agent, he has a brain, I think, and an adult.
Not only that, what rubbed me the wrong way about TLD is that they claimed Krause was the reason Pippen would not get a raise but Reinsdorf was the owner and had the final say, he could have easily bumped up Pippen's contract but they never bring this up. Jordan could have even taken a paycut too but none of this is brought up.
Both Reinsdorf and Krause told him to wait after the collective bargaining agreement when the salary cap was going to go up. Scottie was impatient and Reinsdorf guaranteed him the money but he warned Pippen that he better not hear a word about it after. Pippen sure enough couldn’t wait a year before bad mouthing Krause and his contract.
I wouldn't have gave him a raise either. The owner told him not to sign it.
The fact is none of the bulls payers liked Krause, especially Scottie Pippen, who admitted that he did not respect Krause because he was arrogant and was trying to trade guys while they were winning championships.
I also think it’s just the classic feelings of an athlete hating management. To them, management was leeching off of the success of the “worker”.
None of that is true, Sir. Krause gave Pippen the contract he asked for, a 7 years deal that was underpaying Scottie by year three.
OWNERSHIP (JR) refused to re-negotiate. It was Krause who then gave his soft landing to his preferred destination in Texas at big money with a sign & trade.

If he really wanted to give Pippen a payrise, he could have easily done it, hell if he really thought Krause was a problem he could have fired Krause as well. Krause was a scapegoat.

I'd give Krause his flowers if he didn't get caught in his feelings. Yeah, Jordan did as well, but nothing was comparable to Krause's implosion of the team. Krause built the team, sure. But you can't have one without the other. Players AND organizations win championships. It is ignorant to think otherwise. I don't think this should mean that Krause should keel over and listen to every one of Jordan's demands. But that quote is like if my manager said "Our employees don't make sales. The company does." Jordan can get pissed over nothing, but it's justified in that case.

Chicago had massive advantage which was not created by Michael. Drafting Pippen wasnt because of Michael. Hiring a HOF coach wasnt by Michael. Jerry Krause wanted all the attention for the success of the Bulls to be credited to him, that was his issue. That's why he fired Phil Jackson. Which was stupid. It makes no sense to fire a winning coach or disband a winning team. That's why he went out the way he did. He was selfish and envious about not being the center of attention. He did it at the cost of the team. Not only was the team angry at him but he the Bulls fans were angry at him to because of his selfishness. People never forgot what he did.

Maybe one of his greatest accomplishments not mentioned was signing all the lengthy backup centers to give him 18 fouls blocking the lane and so other teams couldnt have front court depth. Parrish edwards salley purdue wennington cartwright longley etc. The dolphin sized frontcourt that let pippen jordan harper overplay and gamble denying the wings and creating transition points.

Jerry Krause is one of the best executives in sports history.
He was the first GM to build a championship around a guard.
He put together six championships.
He put together arguably the best team of all-time that won 72 games.
He successfully scouted all over the globe before it was fashionable.
He hired one of the greatest coaches in NBA history.
MJ, who I love, can hate Krause all he wants, but Krause is an all-time great GM.
kinda helps when that guard is MJ....
So great he was dumb enough to break up one of the greatest dynasties ever
@@roberthenley8493 He was getting older and that obviously took a toll on his decision making in the closing years of the 90s. Had he not caused friction between him and Jackson in the first place the Bulls could have won a few more chips. Still a great GM though.

Krause was great but he bombed badly in the '86 and '89 drafts. '89 in particular when he passed over Nick Anderson and Tim Hardaway (both Chicago natives) along with Shawn Kemp for Stacy King. Imagine that squad

Stacy King was a very solid pro and played a big role in helping them win championships. He was VERY highly regarded coming out of Oklahoma. Yeah Kemp was better but it's not like King was a bad pick.

The squad would have never worked out in the end. Why? Well, there’s one basketball and a guy with the initials M.J. wanted it all the time!! Granted, he was nearly unstoppable at times with the ball, but one man can’t beat five average, unselfish, well-coached players. It took Jordan a while to figure that out, but when he did the Bulls started racking up titles! I’m a Celtics fan, but you’ve got to give the credit and respect when it’s deserved and those 90’s Bulls teams were great.
In fairness, Krause was able to correct that mistake by trading Stacey King to Minnesota for Luc Longley straight up. And then when Longley's ability made starter Will Purdue obsolete, Krause was able to trade Purdue for Rodman

Jerry Krause thought that HE was the centerpiece to the Bulls franchise and he took all the credit for their success. He deserves props for putting the team together and surrounding Jordan with a great coach and supporting cast and to that extent only. But it's the Coach and the players that made it work. The Coach and players win the games, not the organization. The Bulls have zero Championships without Michael Jordan and that's a fact nor a legacy. He can recruit all the talent in the world , but that doesn't guarantee that it'll work, if that's the case, all superteams past and present would've all won championships.

Jerry Krause is the one who hired Phil Jackson to the Bulls as an assistant and he even fired Doug Collins for Phil to be the new head coach despite reaching the conference finals. Michael Jordan never liked the move because Jordan and Doug Collins are close.

I'm from Chicago, and while i believe that MJ's opinion of Krause has a lot of validity, the greatness of Krause's ability cannot be denied, and i'm glad to see a video that celebrates his greatness in seeing talent and in understanding what pieces make for winning basketball. Krause's problem was never lack of GM ability; it was always his attitude. And i'm not a fan of MJ's mocking disrespect for the man; MJ's got his own bad attitude. Fans just disapprove of Krause (and really Reinsdorf) because their attitudes kept more championships from being won. That's the simple of it.

I think Krause is the greatest GM in NBA history. He was the first to do what the Spurs get credit for doing, scouting across the world. He not only found talent that contributed to championship winning teams, he also found talent that complimented his two stars in MJ and Scottie. That’s extremely hard to do. As much as I love MJ, I’m glad the Bobcats/Hornets franchise was one and continues to be one of the worst because only like that he can recognize to himself that what Krause did was vital to winning titles. It’s not as easy as he thought it was.

I remember watching the 'Last Dance' and, even based on MJ's account and all his supporters, I found absolutely nothing wrong with Jerry Krause. Of course, he isn't perfect. But, he was a helluva manager, and it just seemed like players hated him for doing his job too well.

Like I said, Jerry surely wasn't perfect, but, let's not act like MJ & Co. couldn't have done better on that end - especially as far as the Last Dance documentary was concerned. But Michael Jordan needed Jerry Krause Just as much as Jerry Krause needed Michael Jordan to do his job on the floor. At the end of the day Jerry Krause ego tainted his career moving forward after the Bulls dynasty because he was never able to get back to that promised land after breaking up that team.
But we can't discredit what he brought to the table and was able to build in Chicago around the diamond that is Michael Jordan.
And some Jordan fans are in the comments trying to discredit Jerry Krause saying that Jordan would have won without Phil Jackson as head coach or look down upon his moves he did to build that team.
For some fans hearing this is like hurting their childhood in a way hearing the truth that these type of moves help Jordan become one of the greatest winners of all time. He was always an amazing talent and competitor but he needed the right pieces and horses around him in order for him to be a great winner and that's what Jerry Krause did as his time as a GM with the Chicago Bulls.

It was only through the right players and coaches etc. that the Bulls became the team of the 90s.

The issue with Pippen's contract was a Reinsdorf thing, not Krause. Actually, Reinsdorf, Krause, and Pippen's own agents told him not to take the long term deal, but he signed anyway. Krause told Pippen that Reinsdorf would not restructure the contract down the line and that it was pointless for Pippen to come back and ask for more money. Reinsdorf was true to his word, and that's why Pippen's wildcat strike failed.

When he became an owner he was pushing his GM's to take his choices. Just check his high draft picks: Kemba, MKG, Zeller,Vonleh Kaminsky (these 3 players are all of/C), Monk, Washington...

I think this beef can almost be called even. Jordan was an incredible player who on even a slightly above average team could probably at least take them to the finals. Krause was a man who found pieces that could complete your team and take you places you never dreamed of. Both were petty and never bothered or even attempted to bury the hatchet even after all the success they had (mostly because of MJ’s almost maniacal obsession with proving himself right/winning all the time, partly because Krause was simply responding in kind.) Because of how personal MJ takes even the slightest gesture of ill will (you could accidentally sneeze in his direction and that would be his motivation to drop 60 points on you) this beef will never be resolved. Wouldn’t doubt if either man cussed the other on their deathbed.

It’s hard to scout real life talent. I worked as a baseball scout for a couple small colleges. It’s way harder to scout than to coach or play. There’s no set way to grade players. Speed and strength only go so far. And one player having character issues can sink your career over night. A lot of people think talent supersedes character but it absolutely does not. Being a good scout is tricky AF!!!

Secondly, I say scouting is harder because there are no real time structures for things like heart, well and IQ. Coachability. Anybody can run a 40. But can you read a defense. Lamar is a freak in the nfl but he’s not on Mahomes or burrows level. MVPS are popularity contests. Championships and leadership are immeasurable.

If Krause was as great a GM as lead to believe please name me a note worthy pick after MJ left the building. Also on the Pippen & Grant draft an argument could be made had he taken Reggie Miller and Kevin Johnson while pairing them with MJ and Oakley the team would have progressed a lot faster. Also bypassing Karl Malone for Oakley wasn’t his greatest highlight either. For the most part Krause hit on very few picks to help significantly better the team. Dawkins was a better pick than Sellers if we measure careers. Oakley for Cartwright was horrendous trade IMO he was better off keeping Oak and Playing he or Grant at Center. But I’m sure all the great pick after MJ left is why so many think he’s one of the best to do it.
I don't know if anybody told you... but the bulls won six titles under Krause's management. Two on Malone straight up, they beat Oakley three times on their way to a 3peat, and I think they even knocked Reggie out of the tournament for one too. I don't know man... Krause was not thinking it through by demanding Jackson do something about Jordan's mocking of him. Jordan already hated Krause and that wasn't changing. If Jackson did as Krause requested, then the best player in basketball now hates both of you. That would have been devastating for team unity. Jackson was wise to side with Jordan despite Krause's petty move to terminate him.
Krause may have been a prick - who knows…but he was masterful at his craft.
Greatest GM in history hooked him up with the talent he needed to win six titles. None of this happens without Krause, no matter how annoying he may have been.

Who did not like Michael, other than his rivals? I am in Canada and like the Knicks, but you had to greatly respect Jordan. That being said, this video is both incredibly informative and shows painstakingly (no need to say so) that Michael surely learned, and hopefully appreciated, what a tremendous job Krause did, given how bad an executive he turned out to be. Instead of continually ragging on him, he should have by now, come out and said so. If winning championships was all about one guy, players like (and the list is seemingly sadly endless) Connor McDavid in Edmonton, would have had at least 1 Stanley Cup by now, instead of the 0 he sports...in addition to so many Hall of Famers that never won a championship in their respective sports.
I am a Colts fan in the NFL - from their days in Baltimore - and saw Peyton Manning win 1, just 1 Super Bowl, given the lack of support on the defensive end. In NHL hockey, I like Vancouver (though I am not in that Canadian city), and have seen 0 Cups, despite them having so many great players, 4 now in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Finally, I had heard of Jordan's bizarre and angry Hall of Fame acceptance speech, but did not know, until now, about that jab he took at Krause. Totally classless and hard to believe.
This to me adds onto the reason why Jordan is the GOAT. Jordan still stuck with it and eventually stayed with the Bulls instead of leaving. If this was any other player in this modern era, they'd ask for trade or sit out games and whine about it.
And the fact that Jordan was still winning championships with all this drama is impressive. No matter how good a GM is, if a team had this much drama and issues nowadays, they would go nowhere.
